Due to the popularity of our Joshua Tree program last spring, ArtTable is thrilled to offer a day trip to Palm Springs and environs to experience Desert X, an exhibition of site-specific installations across the Coachella Valley.
Over a dozen international contemporary artists—Doug Aitken, Lita Albuquerque, Jennifer Bolande, Sherin Guirguis, Philip K. Smith, and more—were invited to envision the desert as a vast canvas upon which to create their works, under the artistic direction of Neville Wakefield.
Art historian, photographer and desert environmentalist Spelman Downer and photographer Barbara Bauer will lead our group on a 4-5 hour tour of selected highlights—including Aitken’s Mirage, Guirguis’ One I Call, Albuquerque’s hEARTH, and others—aboard a roomy, air-conditioned mini-coach. We will meet at 10:30 am at the Desert X hub in the Palm Springs Ace Hotel. Box lunches catered by F10 will be provided. Following our tour, members and their guests are welcome to visit other points of interest in the vicinity, such as the Palm Springs Art Museum, where Rob Pruitt and Jeffrey Gibson have installed their Desert X projects, and the museum’s Architecture and Design Center, featuring the exhibition On the Grid: A Look at Settlement Patterns in the High Desert by Andrea Zittel, whose A-Z West compound we visited in Joshua Tree.

Carpooling to and from Palm Springs can be arranged for interested parties. Please contact Susan Power if youd like to carpool either as a driver or a passenger: susanlpower75@gmail.com
