TRaC: The Visual Arts Teenage
Reviewers and Critics Program
A collaboration
between ArtTable and High 5 Tix to the Visual Arts,
TRaC gives selected junior and senior high school students
the opportunity to attend and review free High 5 events
and meet and learn from working artists and critics.
Students are selected through an application process
and attend schools across the five boroughs, as well
as New Jersey.
The after school program was initiated with a multidisciplinary
course and has expanded in 2003 to include additional
courses in Dance and Visual Arts. ArtTable is the official
co-organizer of the Visual Arts TraC, drawing from
the participation of our members to introduce high
school level students to the visual arts professions.

Take Your Daughters to Work Day
Take Our Daughters To Work® Day was launched by
the Ms. Foundation for Women in 1993,
to expand girls’ understanding of possible career
opportunities and to encourage equal opportunities
for women in the workplace. In order to bring the boys
to work alongside the girls and take on the issues
that they will both confront in the workplace, the
event has been renamed Take Our Daughters and Sons
To Work® Day beginning with 2003.
Since 2001, ArtTable’s NY Career Development
Committee (formally ArtCorps) has been organizing Take
your Daughters to Work Day programs, to introduce high
school students to careers in the visual arts. Planning
for the annual program begins with meetings between
Artcorps members and teachers from participating New
York City Public schools, including Washington Irving
High School, located on Manhattan's Lower Eastside
and The Heritage School in East Harlem.
Groups of ten-15 high school students from the selected
schools are given the opportunity to follow a day-long
itinerary with ArtTable members, to gain insights into
diverse work environments and become acquainted with
professionals working in the visual arts.
Tours have included visits to the Graphic Design Department
at the 92nd Street Y, The Cooper-Hewitt National Design
Museum, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Sragow Gallery,
Funny Garbage, The New York Earth Room, The New Museum
of Contemporary Art, and other arts venues.
Mentoring Roundtables
Students and young professionals in arts administration,
museum studies, and art history programs will be invited
to participate in roundtable discussions regarding
careers in the arts, hosted by ArtTable members from
different spectrums of the arts community. Speakers
will host a roundtable focusing on one of the following
areas:
Museum Director,
Non-profit Director,
PR/Marketing,
Entrepreneurs,
Education, Development,
Gallery/Corporate Collection, and
Foundation/Corporate Funding.
This program was inaugurated in conjunction with ArtTable’s
25th anniversary conference in the spring of 2005 and
received an overwhelming response. Over 70 students
attended, with ArtTable members such as Nina Diefenbach,
Jenny Dixon, Marilyn Donini, Anne Pasternak and Jennifer
Russell sharing their insight and experiences about
the profession. Based on the success of this
program, ArtTable held another Mentoring Roundtable
in 2006 at Sotheby’s as a part of the activities
surrounding our Annual Award Luncheon.
