Join ArtTable for So Cal's Season Launch: Presenting Lowery Sims and LA/LA Exhibitions!

In conjunction with the opening weekend of Pacific Standard Time: Los Angeles/Latin America, please join us for a special ArtTable event featuring guest speaker Lowery Stokes Sims, following a curator-led walkthrough of the proyectosLA exhibition of modern and contemporary Latin American art. This exclusive event will offer ArtTable members and their guests an opportunity to preview the exhibition before it opens to the public at noon.

We are honored to present distinguished curator, scholar, and founding ArtTable board member Lowery Sims, who has devoted her pioneering career to fostering diversification, inclusion, and opportunity for scores of artists globally since the 1970s. In April of this year, ArtTable was pleased to celebrate Sims' contributions with the Distinguished Service to the VIsual Arts Award at our 24th Annual Benefit and Awards Ceremony. Sims served on the education and curatorial staff of the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 1972 to 1999, as executive director, president, and adjunct curator at the Studio Museum in Harlem from 2000 to 2007, and most recently, as curator emerita at the Museum of Arts and Design. She is bringing her curatorial prowess to bear on The U.S.-Mexico Border: Place, Imagination, and Possibility, which opens on September 10 at the Craft & Folk Art Museum as part of the Getty's LA/LA initiative. Sims will speak to us about this exhibition as well as about her wide-ranging experience in the art world as a whole.

Occupying a pop-up exhibition space in a downtown LA warehouse for six weeks during LA/LA, proyectosLA is a cultural platform that will bring together intergenerational roster of Latin American artists from 19 galleries situated throughout the Americas. Both established, internationally known galleries and newer, avant-garde spaces will be represented. Several of the included artists are featured in multiple other LA/LA shows.  Latin American specialists Luisa Teixeira de Freitas and Claudia Segura will guide us through Here the border is you, the special exhibition they curated within the warehouse space showcasing selected work by artists (including Marta Minujín, Julio Le Parc, Amalia Ulman, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Carmen Argote, Ruben Ortiz-Torres, and more) from the invited galleries.

For more information on proyectosLA, the galleries and the artists represented visit the project website here or read the article recently featured in ArtNews here

Refreshments will be served.

We look forward to hosting ArtTable members from near and far and their guests for this exceptional event. Due to space limitations, be sure to register early to guarantee a spot. Please reserve by September 8.

Thank you to Teresa Iturralde at proyectosLA for hosting and to Susan Power and Roni Feinstein for organizing this event.

We would like to thank our generous sponsor for their support
