Please join ArtTable Southern California for a tour of the most comprehensive West Coast exhibition to date of the work of Adrian Piper.

Leading our walk-through will be Connie Butler, Chief Curator of the Hammer Museum, and one of the organizers of the exhibition, which originated at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. This expansive retrospective features more than 270 works gathered from public and private collections from around the globe and encompasses the vast range of mediums that Piper has explored over a five decade career: drawings, photography, works on paper, video, multimedia installations, performance, painting, sculpture, and sound.

From the time of her emergence in the mid-1960s, Piper's work has profoundly shaped the form and content of Conceptual art through her investigations into its political, social, and spiritual potential. Her influential work has directly addressed racism, misogyny, xenophobia, and, more recently, social engagement and self-transcendence. Her work fuses humor with incisive intellect and draws upon her longstanding involvement with yoga and philosophy (the artist is an academic scholar of the latter, currently teaching at a university in her new permanent home in Germany).

Please join us for a stimulating, mind- and eye-opening experience as we view Piper's half-century of groundbreaking work.

Thank you Roni Feinstein, ArtTable SoCal Co-Chair, for organizing this program.
