Join ArtTable PA and The Fabric Workshop and Museum’s (FWM) Executive Director and ArtTable board member, Susan L. Talbott for a special curator-led tour of Process and Practice: 40 Years of Experimentation. The tour will provide a comprehensive look into FWM’s history of experimentation, creation, presentation, and documentation. Light refreshments will be served.

Process and Practice: 40 Years of Experimentation highlights FWM’s renowned Artist-in-Residence program and explores the experimental essence of art making through the unpacking of its unique collection of Artist Boxes. Displayed are notes, sketches, tests and models from more than 100 boxes, including those of such celebrated artists as Laurie Anderson, Chris Burden, Roy Lichtenstein and Carrie Mae Weems. Paired with completed works from the permanent collection, the boxes reveal the private thoughts and creative leaps of artists exploring unfamiliar materials, testing ideas and ultimately producing new works. The exhibition offers a behind-the-scenes look at FWM’s significant place in the history of contemporary art and serves as a tribute to the enduring vision of its late founder, Marion Bouton “Kippy” Stroud.

Throughout her 40 year career, she held other museum directorial positions and curated numerous exhibitions including Patti Smith: Camera Solo; My Reality: Contemporary Art and the Culture of Japanese Animation and Fred Wilson: Memory. Talbott serves on the boards of ArtTable and the French American Museum Exchange (FRAME). She is an alumna of Pratt Institute and Harvard University’s Art Museum Directors’ and Executive Education Program. Talbott was inducted as a Chevalier in the French Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) in November 2015.
