Rediscover MOCA's iconic collection of boundary-breaking contemporary art with an exclusive tour of The Foundation of the Museum: MOCA's Collection with assistant curator Rebecca Lowery.

To celebrate four decades since its founding in 1979, MOCA is presenting an expansive topography of its permanent collection on view in the vast industrial space of the Geffen Contemporary. Reflecting the diversity and the prescience of the visions that have contributed to the growth of MOCA's collection over the years, the exhibition alternates stand-alone immersive installations, such as Chris Burden's "Exposing the Foundation of the Museum" (1986/2018), from which the show borrows its title, with insightful thematic groupings. Offering fresh perspectives on the ever-evolving contemporary artistic landscape, the exhibition invites visitors to experience the collection anew and features an array of works by artists--both longstanding and more recent to the MOCA community--many on view for the first time in years or never before shown.

Following the walkthrough, please join us for discussion over drinks at Manuela.

Thank you to Susan Power, Co-Chair ArtTable SoCal and Bonnie Porter, MOCA Education Programs Coordinator for organizing this program.
