Bring your favorite canine companion and join ArtTable for a curator-led walk-though of dOGUMENTA LA. Following the success of last year's New York-based dOGUMENTA, the first-ever art exhibition specifically designed to cater to the taste of dogs, its curatorial team--Jessica Dawson, Mica Scalin, and Rocky (Dawson's Maltese-Yorkie mix)--are holding a Downtown LA edition at the FIGat7th open-air shopping mall.

“After sniffing around the LA art world, we dug up a group of amazing artists offering fresh perspectives on the issues and interests of 4-legged patrons,” Dawson said of the show’s LA iteration. “We can’t wait to unleash a whole new litter of artworks that West Coast culture hounds can explore for themselves.”

Artist Janne Larsen partnered with adoptable pets to address issues of inclusion and privilege in the canine community. Joshua Levine created an unexpected work based on the KONG toy that offers a riff on iconic LA artists and the history of inflatable art. Tucker Marder investigates the possibility of interspecies communication in a work co-created with pigs. Also shown in New York, Tibi Tibi Neuspiel's sculpture, "Any Dog Can Be A Guide Dog if You Don't Care Where You're Going," holds particular appeal for canines, as it is made from cast and found dog toys. Among the other established and emerging artists featured are Gali Basel, Sabrina Clouden, Meena Khalili, Gary Lockwood aka Freehand Prophet, Ruben Rojas and Alex Sheriff.

dOGUMENTA NY attracted no fewer than 4,000 guests, including a cat, a turtle, and over 1,400 dogs. There were edible artworks, a meditative pool where dogs could cool off, and even a sculpture that changed color as it was peed on—an homage to Andy Warhol’s “Oxidation” paintings.“ As Dawson indicated, "All the LA-based artists we met with have unique approaches to art-making, so we’re confident that the West Coast edition will feel totally fresh. You can still expect artworks that will appeal to the sensibilities, interests, and world views of 4-legged patrons, realized in a broad range of media.”
