Join ArtTable DC for a summer afternoon at Workhouse Arts Center where we will view the current solo show, Hanna Vogel: The Weight of Air. The Weight of Air is an immersive exhibition exploring ideas of growth and tenacity. Hanna Vogel’s delicate installation works address body and self-image reflected in the space we inhabit through physical and spatial consideration. By openly unveiling  environmental vulnerabilities, these objects call on the viewer to examine the entropic nature of their own human makeup and its relationship to its surroundings.

The visit to the Weight of Air exhibition will be followed by a brief tour of 65+ artist studios, 3 remaining gallery spaces and the newly, renovated prison museum each apart on the 55-acre campus of Workhouse Arts Center. In celebration of the Art Center’s 10-year anniversary week other activities such as live bands, food trucks and the creation of a community mural will also take place that evening. Join us and explore Workhouse Arts Center’s mission first hand – to grow and support a vibrant arts center that offers engaging opportunities and inspirational experiences in visual arts, performing arts, history, and education.

Estimated tour time is 1.5 hours followed by a reception.

The Workhouse Arts Center is a Virginia not-for-profit corporation that was created for the purpose of planning, developing and fundraising a self- sustaining arts space. The primary goal has been and remains the renovation, preservation and reuse of the former District of Columbia Complex’s Workhouse facilities. Officially transitioned from the District of Columbia Prison Complex to Workhouse Arts Center in 2008, the organization now sits on 55-acres of land surrounded by rolling hills, featuring 3 main gallery spaces, near 100 artist studios and hosts an array of arts education courses, festivals and performances.

Carpool will be arranged. Please email dc@arttable.org and specify whether you are interested in joining a carpool or interested in driving.
