SUMMARY:AT Tours - Scandinavia Art Experience 2022
DESCRIPTION:Interested in this program? Please email travel@arttable.org for more information.\n\nThe light! In Scandinavia this has been an inspiration for artist throughout the ages. This alone is a reason to visit the splendid art capitals of this region. The art worlds are truly exciting with the new Munch Museum and the Twist in Oslo. Helsinki has its first Biennial this year and as a result the art world is more vibrant than ever. And of course we dive into the wonderful art scene of Copenhagen. Exceptional clean Nordic design and the amazing equally ‘clean’ cuisine are further draws. Add the stunning natural beauty and we have a ‘not-to-be missed’ destination. It is no coincidence that the three countries we will visit are home of the Top-3 of Happiest People in the world. \nITINERARY\nHELSINKI\, FinlandThe Biennial of 2020 (postponed to 2021) really put Helsinki on the art world map. We ‘dive into’ the thriving art scene and see the best it has to offer. We will meet fantastic artists and collectors in their studios and homes. Of course we will include design from the world-renowned Aalto studio. We will enjoy a special behind-the-scenes tour in the Kiasma museum. And in contrast we visit the most beautiful examples of Finnish Jugendstill architecture. \nOSLO\, Norway‘Oslo is Europe’s next great Art Capitol’ according to ARTnews.com. And we agree. The new Munch Museum is set be open this fall. It promises to be a fabulous tribute to the artist and of course we will enjoy a special visit. The Oslo art scene is booming and we include the best galleries\, museums and private collections in the program. We also make a spectacular trip north to visit the Twist Museum and the sculpture garden surrounding it. Then it is time to take in the natural beauty from the water. We board the cruise-ferry and leave Oslo behind with stunning views of the Norwegian fjords. On board we enjoy a great dinner and spend the night in a first class cabin. \nCOPENHAGEN\, DenmarkWe wake up arriving in wonderful Copenhagen. The hugely successful contemporary artist Olafur Elliason was born here and we meet some of his contemporaries. We will visit intriguing private collections. And we will enjoy visits to the Hirschsprung Collection for masterpieces from the Danish Golden Age as well as the fantastic modern and contemporary Louisiana Museum and sculpture garden. There is also time for some great (design) shopping. Of course we will eat what could be the best food you have ever tasted in some of the 25+ Michelin star restaurants of the Danish capital. A fantastic last stop on what promises to be a truly magical tour. \nMonday\, June 13Flight back home or on your way for further experiences….*Subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances \n\nTRIP DETAILS\nDATESJune 4-13\, 2022 \nDURATION9 days / 9 nights \nSTAYPerfectly located luxury hotels; First class cabin on the ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo \nMEALSBreakfast\, lunches\, dinners included (alcohol not included) \nTRAVELIncluded:Local transport by luxury coachFlight from Helsinki to OsloOvernight ferry Oslo to Copenhagen \nNot included:Trans-Atlantic flights  (Artigo will advise on preferred flights) \nPRICING / ROOM TYPES– Single occupancy  – $8\,450– Double occupancy – $7\,750 \nPAYMENT SCHEDULE (Payable to Artigo Tours): \nSeptember 1\, 2021 | 1st payment – $2\,000February 1\, 2022 | 2nd payment – $3\,000April 1\, 2022 | 3rd payment – (dependent on type of room\, see below)– Single Occupancy: $3\,450– Double Occupancy: $2\,750 \nARTTABLE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE CONTRIBUTION  \nDue by September 1\, 2021Click here to submit payment. \nMembers: $750Guests: $1100 \nAll payments made to ArtTable are final and non-refundable. \nPlease contact ArtTable at travel@arttable.org with any questions. Schleuning has a record of organizing thoughtful exhibitions and programs that are not only high profile and highly popular\, but also recognized for their contributions to scholarship. She has more than two decades of expertise in forming relationships with living designers and artists\, bridging the gap between historical and contemporary design\, and exploring how engaging with art and design can extend beyond museum walls. She is the Margot B. Perot Senior Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the Dallas Museum of Art\, and her recent exhibitions and publications include the upcoming Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity\, Electrifying Design: A Century of Lighting\, and Curbed Vanity: A Contemporary Foil by Chris Schanck. \nAs Senior Curator of Decorative Arts and Design\, Schleuning oversees the decorative arts and design collection\, internationally recognized as one of the foremost decorative arts collections in the United States. Among her other responsibilities\, Schleuning also oversees the decorative arts and design collection planning\, development\, scholarship\, and acquisitions. \nSchleuning served as Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the High Museum of Art\, Atlanta\, from 2011 until 2018. She organized numerous exhibitions\, including two of the 10 most attended exhibitions in the museum’s history. She was co-organizing curator for the nationally touring exhibition Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion\, which broke attendance records and became the eighth most-attended show at the High Museum of Art. Other notable exhibitions that ranged from historical scholarship to pushing the conceived boundaries of what defines a museum exhibition were Technicolor: New Works by Jaime Hayon (2017); Dream Cars: Innovative Design\, Visionary Ideas (2014)\, the 10th most-attended show at the High Museum; Earl Pardon’s Portable Art: Jewelry & Design (2015); and Bangles to Benches: Contemporary Jewelry and Design (2013). From 2013 to 2018\, she curated five dynamic and highly acclaimed designer interventions/playscapes that engages the community by activating the High’s Sifly Piazza\, and through that established the designer-in-residency project. \nPrior to joining the High Museum\, Schleuning served as Curator at The Wolfsonian–Florida International University\, having previously held positions as a Fellowship Coordinator and Assistant Curator at the institution\, where she produced exhibitions\, publications\, and programs with a focus on highlighting the power and impact of art and design in daily life. SUMMARY:New York | Curator’s Talk with Cecilia Alemani\, Artistic Director of the 59th Venice Biennale\, on “The Milk of Dreams”
DESCRIPTION:The James Howell Foundation and ArtTable present a special curator’s talk with Cecilia Alemani\, Artistic Director of the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia\, on this edition’s theme: “The Milk of Dreams.” Alemani will be in conversation with Laura Bardier\, Executive Director of the James Howell Foundation. \n\n\n\nOrganized around Leonora Carrington’s The Milk of Dreams\, the exhibition reflects on what it means to be human today. It focuses on three thematic areas in particular: the representation of bodies and their metamorphoses; the relationship between individuals and technologies; and the connection between bodies and the Earth. \n\n\n\nThis program is free and open to ArtTable Circle\, Board\, and Executive level members only. Registration is required. ArtTable Circle and Board members receive priority registration. Registration for Executive level members will open on Wednesday\, June 8\, 2022. \n\n\n\nNot a member? Join today! \n\n\n\nPlease review the below before registering:\n\n\n\n Health & Safety Face masks are optional though recommended inside the gallery. Please note that by registering for this event you consent to have your contact information shared with the James Howell Foundation and ArtTable to be used in the event that contact tracing is needed. Accessibility The James Howell Foundation is wheelchair accessible. If you would like more information about accessibility or need particular accommodations for this program\, please email Haley at programs@arttable.org. Getting There The James Howell Foundation is located in the West Village neighborhood of New York City. The nearest subway station is Christopher Street (1 and 2 trains). The exact address will be shared with attendees upon registration. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Cecilia Alemani\n\n\n\nCecilia Alemani is an Italian curator based in New York. Currently\, she is the Artistic Director of the upcoming 59th International Art Exhibition (2022) in Venice. Since 2011\, she has been the Director & Chief Curator of High Line Art\, the public art program presented by the High Line in New York. In 2018\, Alemani served as Artistic Director of the inaugural edition of Art Basel Cities: Buenos Aires. In 2017\, she curated the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. \n\n\n\nAbout the James Howell Foundation\n\n\n\nThe James Howell Foundation is a proud sponsor of the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia “The Milk of Dreams.” The James Howell Foundation supports Howell’s vision of committed investigation of like-minded endeavors through a variety of professional programs and projects. The Foundation creates and furthers philanthropic initiatives that empower art professionals\, curators and artists\, as a contribution to cultural and humanistic advancement. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Milk of Dreams\n\n\n\n“The Milk of Dreams” takes its title from a book by Leonora Carrington (1917–2011) in which the Surrealist artist describes a magical world where life is constantly re-envisioned through the prism of the imagination. The exhibition The Milk of Dreams takes Leonora Carrington’s otherworldly creatures\, along with other figures of transformation\, as companions on an imaginary journey through the metamorphoses of bodies and definitions of the human. \n\n\n\nThis exhibition is grounded in many conversations with artists held in the last few years. The questions that kept emerging from these dialogues seem to capture this moment in history when the very survival of the species is threatened\, but also to sum up many other inquiries that pervade the sciences\, arts\, and myths of our time. How is the definition of the human changing? What constitutes life\, and what differentiates plant and animal\, human and non-human? What are our responsibilities towards the planet\, other people\, and other life forms? And what would life look like without us? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you to ArtTable Board member Laura Bardier for organizing this program. \n\n\n\nImage: Cecilia Alemani; Cover art for the 59th Venice Biennale Catalog
