SUMMARY:Boston\, MA | Curator-Led Tour of "Portia Zvavahera" with Ruth Erickson
DESCRIPTION:Gather at ICA Boston for a guided tour of Portia Zvavahera with Ruth Erickson\, Barbara Lee Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs! \n\n\n\nPortia Zvavahera (b. 1985 in Harare\, Zimbabwe) draws from her dreams to create layered paintings that evoke moments of transition and transcendence. For the artist\, the act of painting is akin to an act of worship. Across her work\, Zvavahera engages deeply with the African Pentecostal and Indigenous Shona traditions in which she was raised\, illuminating the centrality of dreams\, ancestors\, and revelation to both belief systems. The artist merges painting and printmaking techniques to conjure worlds glimpsed in her dreams\, where figures commune with spirits\, and protective comforts and nightmares collide in stirring unions. Culling from an array of sources ranging from the angels and demons of medieval European devotional art to the vibrant patterns of Zimbabwean textile designs\, Zvavahera constructs what the art historian Tamar Garb has described as “a unique and porous pictorial world.”  For the ICA\, her first solo museum exhibition in the U.S.\, Zvavahera is presenting a selection of recent paintings centered on the theme of animals\, considering how they populate her work as well as the collective imagination.   \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guests – $20\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $25\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:Los Angeles\, CA | Artist Talk and Exhibition Walkthrough with Rebecca Morris
DESCRIPTION:Rebecca Morris studio\, Los Angeles\, February 24\, 2025. Photo: Flying Studio.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin ArtTable at Regen Projects for an Exhibition Walkthrough with Rebecca Morris! \n\n\n\nRegen Projects is pleased to present #34\, Los Angeles-based artist Rebecca Morris’s first solo exhibition with the gallery and the thirty-fourth of her career. Over the past thirty years Morris has established a sophisticated visual lexicon to expand the limits and possibilities of non-objective abstraction in painting. As Hamza Walker has written\, “Rebecca Morris’s commitment to abstraction lies somewhere between the poles of fierce and rabid\, a prerequisite for coping with a pluralism arising not only from across disciplines but from within the discipline of painting itself.” \n\n\n\n\nParking is available behind the gallery as well as on the street. \n\n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $25\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nArtTable Guests – $20\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:New York\, NY & Virtual | ArtTable's Annual Leadership Series | Art at Risk: Censorship and the Fight for Creative Freedom
DESCRIPTION:In today’s increasingly polarized cultural and political landscape\, arts professionals are grappling with urgent questions: How do institutions remain true to their missions while navigating the risks of presenting complex or controversial narratives? What role does censorship play in shaping the stories we tell through exhibitions\, acquisitions\, publications\, and programming? \n\n\n\nArtTable’s 2025 Annual Leadership Series returns with a timely conversation on the evolving responsibilities of arts institutions in an era of heightened scrutiny and constrained freedoms. This year’s panel features acclaimed artist Marilyn Minter\, cultural leader and curator Sara Reisman\, and art lawyer Katherine Wilson-Milne\, in conversation with moderator Elizabeth Larison\, Arts and Culture Advocacy Program Director at National Coalition Against Censorship. Scroll down to learn more about our panelists! \n\n\n\nTogether\, these thought leaders will explore the challenges and strategies involved in sustaining truthful\, inclusive storytelling across all areas of the arts ecosystem. From debates over funding and institutional values to efforts to protect curatorial independence and artistic freedom\, the discussion will offer insights for anyone invested in the future of the arts. \n\n\n\nWhether you work in a museum\, manage a gallery\, support artists through legal or philanthropic means\, or collect and preserve art\, this event offers critical perspectives and practical strategies for navigating today’s cultural crossroads. \n\n\n\nJoin us on September 25\, 2025\, for this vital dialogue and an opportunity to engage with leading voices at the intersection of art and public discourse. Immediately following the panel\, we invite you to stay for a 40-minute in-person networking reception with light refreshments. This reception is a rare chance to continue the conversation with our esteemed panelists\, ask follow-up questions\, and build meaningful connections with fellow attendees across the arts industry. \n\n\n\nAbout the Annual Leadership Series: This signature ArtTable program was initially launched in 2016\, and since its inception\, the series has fostered engaging conversations among prominent women and nonbinary professionals.
