Her innovative approaches to cultivating support for artists have enriched our national cultural landscape\, and her leadership has changed the lives of hundreds of artists across the country.  \n\n\n\nIn addition to her leadership roles\, Deana is a strategic advisor to cultural foundations and philanthropic initiatives including the Ruth Foundation for the Arts and Chanel Next Prize. She also lectures extensively\, consults on various art initiatives\, contributes to cultural publications\, and has taught at institutions such as Johns Hopkins University and Towson University. Read her bio here. \n\n\n\nAbout Marcela Guerrero\n\n\n\nGuerrero is the DeMartini Family Curator at The Whitney Museum of American Art. She has worked at the Whitney for nearly six years and was the Museum’s first curator to specialize in Latinx art. She currently serves as the Jennifer Rubio Associate Curator and has curated landmark exhibitions including no existe un mundo poshuracán: Puerto Rican Art in the Wake of Hurricane Maria. That show\, on view at the Museum through April 23\, explores the impact of the devastating storm on contemporary Puerto Rican art. This powerful and renowned exhibition is the first survey of Puerto Rican art at a major U.S. art museum in fifty years. Guerrero was also part of the curatorial team that organized Vida Americana: Mexican Muralists Remake American Art\, 1925–1945 at the Whitney in 2020\, and curated Pacha\, Llaqta\, Wasichay: Indigenous Space\, Modern Architecture\, a 2018 exhibition that featured the work of seven emerging Latinx artists. This summer\, Guerrero will co-curate an exhibition of artist Ilana Savdie’s latest work\, including paintings and drawings\, as well as new works produced for the Whitney. Guerrero is responsible for many major acquisitions of work by prominent Latinx artists to the Whitney’s collection\, including Laura Aguilar\, Patrick Martinez\, and Freddy Rodriguez. Photo by Yasunori Matsui \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Artist\n\n\n\nBorn in Lahore\, Pakistan\, in 1969\, Shahzia Sikander took up the traditional practice of miniature painting during Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq’s military regime\, at a time when the medium was deeply unpopular among young artists. Sikander earned a B.F.A. in 1991 from the National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore\, where she received rigorous training from master miniaturist Bashir Ahmad. She became the first woman to teach in the Miniature Painting Department at NCA\, alongside Ahmad\, and was the first artist from the department to challenge the medium’s technical and aesthetic framework. Sikander’s breakthrough work\, The Scroll\, 1989–90\, received national critical acclaim in Pakistan\, winning the prestigious Shakir Ali Award\, the NCA’s highest merit award\, and the Haji Sharif award for excellence in miniature painting\, subsequently launching the medium into the forefront of NCA’s program\, which brought international recognition to this medium within contemporary art practices. The artist moved to the United States to pursue an M.F.A. at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1993 to 1995; from 1995 to 1997\, she participated in the CORE Program of the Glassell School of Art at The Museum of Fine Arts\, Houston. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Curator\n\n\n\n\nBrooke Kamin Rapaport is deputy director and Martin Friedman chief curator at New York’s Madison Square Park Conservancy\, which she joined in 2013. She was commissioner and curator of the 2019 United States Pavilion at the Venice Biennale with the exhibition Martin Puryear: Liberty/Liberta. A major catalogue published by Gregory R. Miller accompanied the Venice exhibition. At Madison Square Park Conservancy\, she is responsible for the outdoor public sculpture program of commissioned work by contemporary artists including Diana AI-Hadid\, Tony Cragg\, Abigail DeVille\, Leonardo Drew\, Teresita Fernandez\, Maya Lin\, Josiah McElheny\, Martin Puryear\, Erwin Redl\, Arlene Shechet\, and Krzysztof Wodiczko. She is the founder of Public Art Consortium\, a national initiative of museum\, public art\, and sculpture park colleagues launched in 2017. Rapaport was a curator of contemporary art at the Brooklyn Museum and a guest curator at The Jewish Museum. She sits on the boards of three artist-endowed foundations and the Mead Art Museum at Amherst College.

DESCRIPTION:See below to register for either the 4:00 PM or the 5:00 PM tour group. \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Laura Phipps\, Assistant Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art\, with Caitlin Chaisson\, Curatorial Project Assistant\, for a tour of the first New York retrospective of groundbreaking artist\, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (b. 1940\, citizen of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation). Jaune Quick-to-See Smith: Memory Map brings together nearly five decades of Smith’s drawings\, prints\, paintings\, and sculptures in the largest and most comprehensive showing of her career to date. \n\n\n\nSmith’s work engages with contemporary modes of making\, from her idiosyncratic adoption of abstraction to her reflections on American Pop art and neo-expressionism. These artistic traditions are incorporated and reimagined with concepts rooted in Smith’s own cultural practice\, reflecting her belief that her “life’s work involves examining contemporary life in America and interpreting it through Native ideology.” Employing satire and humor\, Smith’s art tells stories that flip commonly held conceptions of historical narratives and illuminate absurdities in the formation of dominant culture. Smith’s approach importantly blurs categories and questions why certain visual languages attain recognition\, historical privilege\, and value.  Across decades and mediums\, Smith has deployed and reappropriated ideas of mapping\, history\, and environmentalism while incorporating personal and collective memories. Laura has assisted with numerous museum exhibitions including 2010\, the Whitney Biennial\, Legacy: The Emily Fisher Landau Collection\, Glenn Ligon: AMERICA\, Singular Visions\, Wade Guyton OS\, Sinister Pop\, and Jeff Koons: A Retrospective. \n\n\n\n\nShe has served on the grant selection committee of the Rema Hort Mann Foundation\, as a visiting critic for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace and Smackmellon Studio Program\, and as a guest curator at the Kentler Drawing Center\, Brooklyn. Prior to the Whitney\, Phipps worked in the curatorial department and director’s office of the Modern Art Museum\, Fort Worth. She received her MA\, Art History at Hunter College\, CUNY and BFA\, Studio Art and BS\, Psychology from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth\, Texas. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCaitlin Chaisson is curator and critic based in New York\, and holds an MA in Curatorial Studies from Bard College. She currently works at the Whitney Museum of American Art. \n\n\n\nFrom 2016–2019\, she served as the Director and Curator of Far Afield\, an initiative that supports regionally-connected artistic and curatorial practices. She has also held positions and contracts at The Drawing Center (New York City)\, e-flux (New York City)\, Emily Carr University of Art and Design (Vancouver)\, AKA Artist-Run Centre (Saskatoon)\, and the Anvil Centre (New Westminster). We’re looking forward to seeing you at our complimentary lunchtime professional development series on Wednesdays this spring—join us from wherever you happen to be. \n\n\n\nHow are we addressing the gender pay gap in our industry as a whole\, and in each of our organizations? Is there progress being made\, and what are the current challenges? On May 24\, please join ArtTable’s Lila Harnett Executive Director\, Jessica L. Porter\, in conversation with sociologist Dr. Gillian Gualtieri\, who specializes in the relationship between race\, gender\, organizations\, and culture\, and is the lead on ArtTable’s ArtTable Survey on Working in the Arts. \n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Gillian Gualtieri’s cross-disciplinary scholarship examines the field of cultural production in its widest sense: how art is made and valued; and how taste\, gatekeeping\, and criticism shape prestige. Gualtieri looks at who is operating in these spaces and how systems of racial\, gender\, class\, and national inequality shape the field. \n\n\n\nA widely-published scholar\, she has studied art and craft as categories—examining where ideas of creativity and function intersect in American fine dining and food writing\, and how innovation across and within artistic practices in general is starting to destabilize the traditional hierarchies between art and craft. \n\n\n\nGualtieri is most recently a co-author of “Campus Connections for Creative Careers: Social capital\, gender inequality\, and artistic work\,” in Poetics 96 (2023). This analysis of the data from the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project (SNAAP) examines how social capital in college supports more successful post-graduation job searches—but found there are disparities between men and women in their access to social capital and the impact of social capital and its ability to confer career advantages. Previously\, she was a postdoctoral scholar at the Curb Center for Art\, Enterprise and Public Policy at Vanderbilt University and a postdoctoral fellow at New York University. In 2018\, Gillian received her PhD in Sociology at the University of California\, Berkeley. Her research broadly considers the relationship between race\, gender\, organizations\, and culture. Gillian has published research on symbolic compliance and sexual harassment on college campuses (in Sociological Forum)\, the intellectual development of the theoretical concept of institutional logics (in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Business and Management) and the gender dynamics of the western literary canon (published in Gender Issues). gilliangualtieri.com \n  \nAbout Jessica Porter\nJessica Porter is ArtTable’s Lila Harnett Executive Director. She joined ArtTable as the ED in 2018\, after 4 years on the Board of Directors and 8 years of membership. In this role\, she is responsible for developing the long-range strategy of ArtTable\, providing leadership and oversight in fundraising to meet financial goals\, and directing communications and brand management to enhance the success of the organization. She oversees and provides leadership to the staff and the membership as a whole\, expanding and educating through research\, programs\, and communications. In 2020 she was the first to assume the name of ArtTable’s founder\, Lila Harnett\, and became the Lila Harnett Executive Director.  \nPrior to this role\, she was the Executive Director of New York Artists Equity Association\, Inc (NYAEA) a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1947 by artists and art patrons with the mission to promote opportunities for artists. It operates Equity Gallery\, an art space located on the Lower East Side of New York City.   \nIn 2001\, Porter launched Porter Advisory\, working with galleries and other organizations as an independent curator\, creating exhibitions in alternative spaces and advising artists on unique opportunities and career advancement. From 2006 to 2017\, Porter founded and directed Porter Contemporary\, a Chelsea art gallery\, where she was responsible for the overall strategy\, business development and market growth\, marketing\, communications\, and talent acquisition.  \nShe has spoken as an expert on CNBC about art collecting and investment of emerging artists\, to the Harvard Business Women’s Association about starting an art collection\, and has participated in panel discussions on such topics as art and music\, women in the art industry\, art and social justice\, contemporary visions of Picasso and art collecting. She is also a lawyer. \nPorter’s natural networking skills\, combined with strategic event planning and social marketing\, have made her a leader in the growth of her own businesses as well as other organizations. Porter demonstrates a commitment to providing guidance and opportunities to other women as part of the Leadership Advisory Board for the Girl Scouts of Greater New York’s annual Women of Distinction Fundraiser and as a Board Member and former Vice President of Membership at ArtTable. She also enjoys coaching little league softball and serving as a supporter and role model to girls in sports. Porter has a Bachelor’s in Art History and French Language and Literature from the University of Delaware and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland.

She the moved to Los Angeles\, where she has been the visionary Director of The Hammer Museum for the past 24 years. Philbin was recognized in ArtReview’s “Power 100” eight times\, and has been included on Los Angeles Business Journal’s LA500 list. She has received the rank of Officier in National des Arts et des Lettres from the French Consulate of Los Angeles\, and was recently elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

DESCRIPTION:There is no question that the art scene in France is alive and kicking its heels. The impact of Brexit has brought new and exciting art spaces across France that more than merit a taste of as the French would say a “soupçon” of the contemporary art scene in France. \n\n\n\nArtTable’s tour will begin in Paris and then we head south to Provence where we will visit museums\, alternative spaces\, galleries\, artists’ studios\, and private collections. France has been the inspiration to artists that have given birth to some of the most important artistic movements and their legacy has laid the foundation for artists for generations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighlights of The Itinerary\n\n\n\nParis \n\n\n\nWe could spend the entire time of the tour in Paris yet over the course of our 3 days in this magical city\, we plan to get into the flow filled with contemporary art set within extraordinary settings. We will talk with gallerists\, artists\, curators\, and collectors as we visit sites like La Bourse de Commerce or the Fondation Louis Vuitton or alternative art spaces like the recently formed Fiminco. Each day we will have time to enjoy the cuisine of Paris and reflect on our shared experiences.  \n\n\n\nAvignon\n\n\n\nThis wonderful walled city along the Rhone will be our first stop as we head south. While it is known for its famous Palais des Popes\, there is also a burgeoning art scene which includes the collection of noted gallerist and collector\, Yvon Lambert. We will have a tour of newly installed works from his  collection. Our day will end with an evening stay at a chateau in the countryside which will provide closer access to a truly unique visit to Anslem Kiefer’s vast studio complex La Ribaute\, a 40-hectare site with more than 70 installations by Kiefer along with the exhibition of works by guest artists.  \n\n\n\nArles\n\n\n\nArles is a magical town and is one of the most lovely examples of life in Provence spanning the footprints of centuries of cultures. The presence of artists is legendary with Vincent Van Gogh having spent three of his most productive years here. His spirit has attracted many contemporary artists and is the home to one of the significant cultural destinations outside of Paris\, LUMA. Created by the efforts of philanthropist Maja Hoffman\, LUMA was created on the site of former railyards with many service barns being transported into exhibition spaces with the site being topped by a tower designed by Frank Gehry. Our hotel in Arles will be L’Arlatan\, which was designed by the artist Jorge Pardo. For 10 years\, she served as the Executive Director of the New York Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. She is currently the Secretary of The Appraisal Foundation’s Advisory Council (TAFAC) based in Washington D.C. and a member of their Personal Property Issues Committee. Selvin is an Adjunct Instructor at New York University\, Steinhardt School in the Visual Arts Administration graduate program and is a guest lecturer both nationally and internationally. She is a member of ArtTable and the Professional Advisors to the International Art Market (PAIAM).

DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for a tour of “for the sake of dancing in the street”—a group exhibition celebrating the interconnectedness of feminist and queer resistance in person at OXY ARTS Los Angeles. The exhibition features works by performance collaborative LASTESIS\, Morehshin Allahyari\, and Yasmine Nasser Diaz\, in conversation with works by poet Ava Ansari and the Geochicas network\, and documentation of resistance movements compiled by Caitlin Abadir-Mullally and Raja Bella Hicks. An original print by Entangled Roots Press is featured in the gallery space and available as a takeaway. Yasmine Nasser Diaz will speak about the exhibition. Meldia Yesayan\, Director\, and Frankie Fleming\, Manager of Education and Community Engagement\, will explain the unique mission of OXY ARTS as it relates to Occidental College and to the surrounding community. OXY ARTS is situated off-campus in a store-front building in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition and associated programming were conceived and organized in collaboration with OXY ARTS\, LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division)\, and Yasmine Nasser Diaz. \n\n\n\nOptional activities after the tour include staying for the gallery’s 6 pm screening of JOYLAND—an Urdu- and Punjabi-language film tackling gender and desire that was shortlisted in the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards\, and won the Jury Prize and Queer Palm Prize at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. Meldia is the Director of OXY ARTS\, the multidisciplinary arts programming initiative at Occidental College. She oversees all aspects of the programming and development of OXY ARTS\, including organizing all exhibitions and programs at the OXY ARTS center\, facilitating visiting artist residencies such as the Wanlass Artist-in-Residence program\, initiating cross-departmental and interdisciplinary collaborations\, creating opportunities for student-curated events\, and engaging the Occidental community in socially conscious discourse with contemporary arts practices. She is also responsible for developing meaningful and sustained relationships with the Los Angeles area arts communities\, including partnerships with local arts agencies\, artists and institutions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYasmine Nasser Diaz is a visual artist whose work frequently occupies the domestic sphere to explore the boundaries of cultural identity. Staging familial memories in nostalgic recreations of home\, her work nods to both tradition and technological change and is often deftly punctured by powerful feminist and social critique. Using a variety of media from collage and fiber etching to video and immersive installation\, she mines personal archives to probe the nuances of third-culture identity\, often drawing upon the frictions experienced between the individual and the collective. \n\n\n\n\nYasmine’s work was recently featured at the Getty Center and is included in the collections of LACMA\, UCLA\, and the Arab American National Museum. She is the recipient of the Harpo Visual Artists Grant\, the California Community Foundation Visual Artist Fellowship\, and the University of Michigan Efroymson Visiting Artist Residency in Ann Arbor\, MI. Yasmine lives and works in Los Angeles. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrankie Fleming oversees education and community programming at OXY ARTS. She works with students\, community partners\, and faculty on collaborations with the surrounding community\, including running the Community Studio K-12 after school art program\, organizing workshops\, field trips and community events. Before joining OXY ARTS in 2019\, Frankie was the Director of Education at Center for the Arts Eagle Rock and a Teaching Artist at Southern Exposure. She brings her experience in art education to OXY ARTS’ LAUSD after school art program and internship program\, which launched in 2021.

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to ArtTable’s 2023 Annual Leadership Series panel discussion on Tuesday\, September 5 in New York City! “The Future of Gender Based Organizations” engages the arts and business communities in a critical examination of how organizations dedicated to addressing existing gender-based disparities in wages and opportunities can continue to research\, advocate\, network\, and address inequities—particularly as the culture moves forward into a more evolved understanding of gender identity. In the panel discussion\, we will consider the value and meaning of gender-based organizations\, their changing roles\, purposes\, and goals\, and the context and consequences of leading such organizations in a changing political and cultural moment. The program will continue to establish ArtTable as an advocate for equality within and beyond the art community. Our panel features: Alyssa Nitchun\, Executive Director of the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art; Subha V. Prior to her appointment at LLMA\, Alyssa had a career in cultural consulting and nonprofits\, spending time advising artists and cultural institutions on realizing thought-provoking projects in the Middle East and Europe. \n\n\n\n\nAlyssa also served as Acting Executive Director at the public art organization Creative Time\, where she spent nearly seven years working in development\, communications\, and team management. She previously oversaw Institutional Giving for the public media organization\, StoryCorps and was the Director of Development for the CUNY Graduate Center’s Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies. Alyssa has held multiple creative positions in the worlds of art\, fashion\, and music\, and received an MA in Gender Politics with a focus in Queer theory from New York University. In her current role at The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art\, Alyssa is expanding the Museum’s purpose beyond its position as an art museum\, into a hub for community and creative expression\, actively shaping a better future for LGBTQIA+ people with artists leading the way. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlicin Reidy Williamson is a global diversity and strategy executive. Her experience includes being a Managing Principal at strategic policy firm\, The Raben Group\, SVP of Public Affairs and Corporate Responsibility for MTV Networks and Viacom\, Chief Inclusion Officer at Endeavor and she now serves as Chief Diversity and Culture Officer at Yahoo!. In her current role\, Alicin leads global diversity and inclusion\, employee engagement and culture for the company. In her partnerships\, she’s developing the external relationships that will increase Yahoo’s diversity footprint as a thought leader in this space. Alicin currently sits as a board member of The Dalton School\, She Should Run\, March on Washington Film Festival and is an advisor for the Council on Juvenile and Family Court Judges and chairs a joint collaboration of veteran service organizations\, Hire Heroes and Operation Homefront. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJessica L. Porter is ArtTable’s Lila Harnett Executive Director. She joined ArtTable as the executive director in 2018\, after 4 years on the Board of Directors and 8 years of membership. Porter is responsible for developing the long-range strategy of ArtTable\, providing leadership and oversight in fundraising to meet financial goals\, and directing communications and brand management. In 2020\, she was the first to assume the name of ArtTable’s founder as the Lila Harnett Executive Director.  \n\n\n\n\nPrior to this role\, she was the Executive Director of the New York Artists Equity Association\, Inc (NYAEA)—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1947. In 2001\, Porter launched Porter Advisory\, working as an independent curator\, creating exhibitions and advising artists on career advancement. From 2006 to 2017\, Porter founded and directed Porter Contemporary\, a Chelsea art gallery\, where she was responsible for strategy\, business development and market growth\, marketing\, communications\, and talent acquisition. Porter has spoken on CNBC about art collecting and investment in emerging artists\, to the Harvard Business Women’s Association about starting an art collection\, and has participated in panel discussions on topics including art and music\, women in the art industry\, art and social justice\, contemporary visions of Picasso and art collecting. Porter has served as part of the Leadership Advisory Board for the Girl Scouts of Greater New York’s annual Women of Distinction Fundraiser. She also enjoys coaching little league softball and supporting girls in sports. Porter has a Bachelor’s in Art History and French Language and Literature from the University of Delaware and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGillian Gualtieri\, PhD\, is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Barnard College\, where she teaches classes in the sociology of art\, race and ethnicity\, gender\, organizations\, and culture. Previously\, she was a postdoctoral scholar at the Curb Center for Art\, Enterprise and Public Policy at Vanderbilt University and a postdoctoral fellow at New York University. In 2018\, Gillian received her Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of California\, Berkeley.  Gillian has published research on symbolic compliance and sexual harassment on college campuses (in Sociological Forum)\, inequality in the art world (Poetics; SNAAP Report)\, and racial and gender inequality in fine dining (Social Problems; Poetics). Her art is rooted in the dialectic coexistence of Eastern and Western cultures through the lens of natural phenomena. Her work is part of many public collections such as: Los Angeles County Museum of Art\, Los Angeles\, CA; Nassau County Museum of Art\, Roslyn Harbor\, NY; Corning Museum of Glass\, Corning\, NY; Detroit Institute of Arts\, Detroit\, MI; Luftmuseum\, Amberg\, Germany; Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art\, Scottsdale\, AZ; Santa Barbara Museum of Art\, Santa Barbara\, CA; The Museum of Art and History\, Lancaster\, CA\, as well as in numerous private collections. Solo exhibitions of her work have been presented at the Bolinas Museum\, Bolinas\, CA; the Asia Society Museum\, Houston\, TX; the Noguchi Museum\, New York\, NY; Savannah College Of Art and Design Museum\, Savannah\, GA; the Nassau County Museum\, Roslyn Harbor\, NY; and The American University Museum\, Washington DC. Her work has been included in recent group exhibitions at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art\, Bentonville\, AR; Los Angeles County Museum of Art\, Los Angeles\, LA; Haus Der Kunst\, Munich\, Germany; Bronx Museum\, Bronx\, NY; and Queens Museum of Art\, Queens\, NY. In 1968-1971 she founded “The Photographer’s Gallery\,” the first gallery in New York City exhibiting photography as fine art. She was Director of Commissions at Pace Gallery in New York from 1972-1982\, implementing public sculpture projects with Pace artists. In 1982 Joyce founded “Works of Art for Public Spaces\, Ltd.”\, dedicated to working with American and International artists creating major works of Art for Architecture. She recently established the Harold and Joyce Pomeroy Schwartz “Archives of Public Art” at the Fales Special Collections/NYU Bobst Library\, of artists’ monographs\, photographs and papers available for public art historical research. It now includes the archives of the Public Art fund and Creative Time. She has been an independent curator and consultant for the Caribbean Cultural Center\, the Contemporary Arts Center\, Cincinnati\, Craft Contemporary\, Grounds for Sculpture\, the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Center for Art\, Design & Visual Culture\, University of Maryland\,Baltimore County. In her role\, Melissa manages art acquisitions for the hospital’s 30+ locations throughout the New York tri-state area\, working with art consultants\, galleries and stakeholders to furnish art for new construction and renovation projects\, while also curating special\, site-specific commissions. \n\n\n\nMelissa ensures that MSK’s art collection aligns with the hospital’s broader environmental design vision\, which is to provide positive patient\, staff and visitor experiences through creating moments of joy\, inspiration and engagement. MSK’s large-scale\, site-specific commissions “Long Island Tapestries” by artist Alexandra Kehayoglou and “New York Sculptures” by artist Kim Dickey were both recognized with the international CODA Award (Collaboration of Art + Design) in 2019 and 2020. Melissa previously worked at the Rockwell Group and was an editor at I.D. Magazine. She holds an B.A. in architecture from Columbia University and a Masters in Interactive Telecommunications from NYU’sTisch School of the Arts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHaving joined Cleveland Clinic in 2019\, Ellen Rudolph is Curator and Senior Director of the Art Collection. She leads the program in its mission to create meaningful interactions with contemporary art placed throughout the Enterprise. Rudolph oversaw the art installation at Cleveland Clinic London hospital and commissioned artists Jacolby Satterwhite\, Sandra Cinto and Eva LeWitt for site-specific projects in Cleveland and Florida. She also led a collaborative exhibition of work by Derrick Adams at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic\, Rudolph was Chief Curator at the Akron Art Museum\, where she staged ambitious exhibitions and drove notable acquisitions\, including works by Mickalene Thomas\, Nick Cave\, Yinka Shonibare and Jenny Holzer among others. Rudolph has served as Executive Director of the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage and also worked at Progressive Corporation and Sotheby’s New York. She has Art History degrees from Northwestern University (BA) and Case Western Reserve University (MA). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs a trusted art advisor and strategist\, Jane Borthwick specializes in managing diverse and specialized collections. Jane advises families\, private collectors\, foundations\, and museums in creating strategies for initiating\, building\, or dispersing art collections. She has handled the marketing and sales plans for the estates of prominent artists. She is an art historian\, curator\, and museum leader for over 25 years with the Mexican Cultural Institute of Los Angeles\, USC Pacific Asia Museum\, Pasadena Museum of California Art\, Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles\, and LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes. She has been an independent consultant for strategic museum projects around the United States\, she worked as an art critic while living in Greece\, and was an independent curator with a focus on Chicano/a\, Latino/a\, and Mexican art. Dr. Bautista obtained her doctorate degree in Communication and her Master’s degree in Art History/Museum Studies\, both from the University of Southern California. DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for an artist talk and exhibition tour with Chelsey Luster! Luster’s immersive solo exhibition “Finding Home” at Vox Populi Gallery tells the stories of their models’ safe spaces through mixed-media paintings\, text\, and film. Each model’s individual story informs the creation of these imaginative havens that come together to form a physical safe space. The exhibition acts as a place of healing for black and queer people and the respective communities. Luster highlights their identity and perspective through the luminescence of black skin with fluorescent undertones and the vibrance of queerness through shimmering overlays of glitter. Other materials\, such oil and acrylic paints\, fabric\, glue\, market on paper\, wood panels\, found objects\, and canvas\, come together to materialize these idyllic realms. \n“At the beginning of my practice\, I focused on self-portraiture and explored the lack of security and safety as a Queer Black woman through depictions of unsettling bathroom scenes in “The American Bathroom” series. This body of work critiqued our failed incarceration system and the unhinged violence I experienced along with others in my community through large-scale erie-colored oil paintings on wooden panels. I developed creative programming and community building with other Queer\, Women\, and Black-led organizations and community leaders through talks\, fellowships\, and residencies that allowed me to collaborate on performances and discussions on Black and Queerness with regards to self-autonomy\, community discussions\, and collage workshops that welcomed people of all artistic backgrounds to create work that explored identity. Through this work\, I shared the universal feeling of wanting to feel safe with individuals of all backgrounds. Through the relationships formed and stories I heard during the creation of “The American Bathroom” series\, I knew that our stories could not end with trauma and violence. I discovered that creating a sacred space within myself and others in my community leads to healing\, peace\, and safety. At this collaborative workshop\, Dr. Gillian Gualtieri will present the findings from our first white paper report: “Costs of Working in the Arts.” Then\, attendees will collaboratively respond to the findings and begin to build solutions and suggestions that will be incorporated into the final document and circulated among members. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour of “My Neighbor’s Garden” with artist Sheila Pepe on November 9 at Madison Square Park. Brooke Kamin Rapaport\, Artistic Director and Martin Friedman Chief Curator\, will introduce the artist and her first outdoor exhibition. “My Neighbor’s Garden\,” places colorful and optimistic canopies of crocheted material\, as well as unexpected materials including paracord\, shoelaces\, outsize rubber bands\, and climbing vines\, and extends from the park’s extant physical structures such as light poles. In the months preceding the exhibition\, Pepe gathered novice and expert crocheters at her Brooklyn studio for crochet sessions towards the fabrication of the project. Pepe will speak about the project\, offer insights into the collaborative process\, as well as situating the exhibition within the context of her career as a whole. She lives and works in Brooklyn. Pepe received a BA from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven; a BFA in ceramics from Massachusetts College of Art and Design\, Boston\, and an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston. The artist’s mother taught her to crochet in the 1960s. Pepe discovered women artists who were a generation or two older and associated with the feminist art movement–Lynda Benglis\, Eva Hesse\, and Nancy Spero–as a crucible to launch her sculptural investigations. www.sheilapepe.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Curator\n\n\n\n\nBrooke Kamin Rapaport is deputy director and Martin Friedman chief curator at New York’s Madison Square Park Conservancy\, which she joined in 2013. She was commissioner and curator of the 2019 United States Pavilion at the Venice Biennale with the exhibition Martin Puryear: Liberty/Liberta. A major catalogue published by Gregory R. Miller accompanied the Venice exhibition. At Madison Square Park Conservancy\, she is responsible for the outdoor public sculpture program of commissioned work by contemporary artists including Diana AI-Hadid\, Tony Cragg\, Abigail DeVille\, Leonardo Drew\, Teresita Fernandez\, Maya Lin\, Josiah McElheny\, Martin Puryear\, Erwin Redl\, Arlene Shechet\, and Krzysztof Wodiczko. She is the founder of Public Art Consortium\, a national initiative of museum\, public art\, and sculpture park colleagues launched in 2017. Rapaport was a curator of contemporary art at the Brooklyn Museum and a guest curator at The Jewish Museum. She sits on the boards of three artist-endowed foundations and the Mead Art Museum at Amherst College.
