Loeb Associate Professor of the Humanities and Associate Professor of African and African American Studies at Harvard University. She is the founder of Vision & Justice\, a leading publishing and research initiative that serves as a key organizer\, partner\, and resource for artists\, scholars\, and leaders seeking to examine the foundational role of visual culture in America’s representational democracy. Lewis is also known for her landmark work on creativity and the gift of failure for innovation. \n\n\n\nShe has authored and edited over 60 publications including the award-winning book\, The Unseen Truth: When Race Changed Sight in America (Harvard University Press\, 2024); the bestseller\, The Rise: Creativity\, the Gift of Failure\, and the Search for Mastery (Simon & Schuster\, 2014); and the award-winning volumes Carrie Mae Weems (MIT Press\, 2021) and “Vision & Justice” (Aperture\, 2016)\, taught widely in universities in the United States and abroad and made required reading for incoming first-year students at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. \n\n\n\nA frequent speaker at universities and conferences\, her mainstage TED talk\, Embrace the Near Win\, has received 3.1 million views. She has delivered keynotes\, talks and commencement addresses for many universities and organizations. As founder of Vision & Justice\, Lewis has organized landmark convenings and founded a Vision & Justice Book Series\, launched in partnership with Aperture. Her writing has been published in the New Yorker\, The New York Times\, Artforum\, and the New York Review of Books\, and her work has been the subject of profiles from Vogue to The Boston Globe to The New York Times. Sarah was ArtTable’s 2006 New Leadership Awardee. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEileen Kinsella is an arts and culture journalist who has been covering the international art market for more than 25 years. She has worked at The Wall Street Journal\, ARTnews\, and Artnet News covering international auctions\, high-profile legal disputes and legal developments that impact issues of provenance\, ownership\, and authenticity. She co-created and co-hosted the podcast Art World Infamy\, and has appeared on CNBC\, Reuters\, and BBC television and was featured in art documentarites\, Driven to Abstraction and For The Money.More recently she has contributed stories to CULTURED\, Art & Object\, The Art Newspaper and Arthur Analytics. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMarcela Guerrero is the DeMartini Family Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art\, New York. Alongside Drew Sawyer\, Guerrero is the co-curator of the eighty-second edition of the Whitney Biennial—the longest-running survey of contemporary art in the United States. At the Whitney\, Guerrero also curated no existe un mundo poshuracán: Puerto Rican Art in the Wake of Hurricane Maria and Martine Gutierrez: Supremacy in 2022-23\, among other exhibitions. From 2014 to 2017\, she was the Curatorial Fellow for Radical Women: Latin American Art\, 1960-1985 organized at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Prior to joining the Hammer\, she worked in the Latin American and Latino art department at the Museum of Fine Arts\, Houston. Guerrero’s writing has appeared in several exhibition catalogues and in art journals. Born and raised in Puerto Rico\, Guerrero holds a PhD in art history from the University of Wisconsin\, Madison. Marcela was ArtTable’s 2025 New Leadership Awardee. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto: Gabriela Herman\n\n\n\n\n\nAlexis Lowry is Curatorial Senior Director at Hauser & Wirth\, where she develops and implements artist driven programming and collaborations across the gallery’s global network of locations. Recent projects include David Smith: No One Thing; Mary Heilmann: Daydream Nation (with Gary Simmons); Camille Henrot: A Number of Things; and Susan Rothenberg: The Weather.Prior to joining Hauser & Wirth\, Lowry was a curator at Dia Art Foundation\, where she oversaw commissions\, exhibitions\, public programs\, and the permanent collection across the institution’s sites and locations. During her tenure\, she organized more than two dozen presentations by artists including Mel Bochner\, Melvin Edwards\, Charles Gaines\, Rita McBride\, Delcy Morelos\, Charlotte Posenenske\, Lucy Raven\, and Dorothea Rockburne\, among others. A curator and scholar with particular interests in Minimalism\, Postminimalism\, and Land art\, Lowry also played a  key role in the stewardship of Dia’s site specific works and in expanding the institution’s approach to land based practices.Previously\, Lowry served as curator of the David Winton Bell Gallery at Brown University and worked as a freelance project manager for Creative Time.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVictoria Rogers is the Director of Strategy in the Office of the COO at Autodesk. She has also worked as an Advisor at X [Google X]\, where she focused on generative AI and \, and as the Director of Arts at Kickstarter\, where she raised over $9M for over 200 cultural projects from more than 90K people. Victoria holds an MBA from Stanford University\, an MFA in Industrial and Civic Service Design from Parsons School of Design\, and a BA in Art History from Yale University. Victoria is a board member of the Brooklyn Museum\, the Studio Museum in Harlem\, the Terra Foundation\, and co-chair and co-founder of the Black Trustee Alliance for Art Museums. She serves as an Impact Fellow with BAG VC\, where she is researching and developing strategies to reduce bias in AI. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDare Turner is the Curator of Indigenous Art at the Brooklyn Museum and a member of the Yurok Tribe. In 2024\, she co-organized Preoccupied: Indigenizing the Museum at the Baltimore Museum of Art\, which included nine exhibitions\, interpretative interventions across the Museum\, and a catalogue. At the Brooklyn Museum\, she curated Nico Williams: Aaniin\, I See Your Light and co-curated Towards Joy: New Frameworks for American Art\, a radical reinstallation of the American Wing guided by Indigenous ways of knowing and Black feminist theory. From the streets of Chile and Iran to museums in Europe and the United States\, and from questions of representation and repatriation to demands for equity and justice\, protest and activism affected the creation\, presentation\, and interpretation of visual arts around the world. \n\n\n\nBringing together artists\, scholars\, activists\, and museum professionals from varied fields and backgrounds\, this book explores the intersections between visual art and social movements during the last tumultuous decade. Spanning themes of protest art\, museum ethics\, restitution\, and institutional transformation\, the collection considers how visual arts have both responded to and shaped politics and society. Contributors highlight the role of artists as catalysts for change and delve into how institutions grapple with their colonial pasts. \n\n\n\nDr. Vishakha N. Desai is an internationally recognized scholar\, educator\, and museum leader. She is President Emerita of the Asia Society\, where she previously served as President and CEO. At Columbia University\, she is a Senior Fellow and past Chair of the Committee on Global Thought\, and she served as Senior Advisor for Global Affairs to President Lee Bollinger and Senior Advisor to Columbia Global. She is a contributor to the New York Times\, the Financial Times\, and W magazine\, among other publications. She also serves as editor at large of CULTURED magazine and a contributing editor to The Art Newspaper. From 2017 to 2022\, she was executive editor of Artnet News. She is a winner of the 2026 Rabkin Prize for visual arts journalists.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaura J. Allen is an interdisciplinary curator\, educator\, and scholar. Her museum practice focuses on historical\, modern\, and contemporary Native art and critical and collaborative museology through a lens of restorative justice. Her research and publications examine the visual and material culture of the Native Northwest Coast and Northeast as well as Indigenous and intercultural dress\, fashion\, and textile histories in the Americas. Themes in her research include material sovereignty\, resurgence\, colonialism\, transcultural exchange\, and the collection\, circulation\, and display of cultural objects and designs. Allen is based in Lūnaapeewáhkiing/Lenapehoking\, living in Brooklyn and serving as the Curator of Native American Art and Repatriation Coordinator at Montclair Art Museum in Montclair\, New Jersey as well as an independent curator. She is also a visiting faculty member at Montclair State University. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShamim M. Momin is the newly appointed Director and Chief Curator of The Bronx Museum of the Arts\, who joins the Museum following over 20 years of  curatorial and leadership experience at some of the nation’s premier institutions. She has served\, most recently\, as an independent curator and advisor in New York\, following her tenure as the Director of Curatorial Affairs and Chief Curator at the Henry Art Gallery (Seattle). In this role from 2018-2024\, she oversaw the Curatorial\, Collections\, Exhibitions\, and Programs departments and\, as part of the Directors Team\, participated in all strategic planning and organizational decision making.As Chief Curator\, Momin organized numerous exhibitions\, including the museum wide group exhibition In Plain Sight\, as well as major commissions by Tala Madani\, Gary Simmons\, Kelly Akashi\, Hank Willis Thomas\, Donna Huanca\, Diana Al-Hadid\, and others. Prior to joining the Henry\, Momin was Director\, Curator\, and Co-founder of LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division)\, a leading nonprofit public art organization committed to curating site- and situation-specific contemporary art projects. In that role from 2008-2018\, Momin organized over 100 exhibitions\, projects\, and programs with more than 300 artists\, presented across the U.S. and internationally. DESCRIPTION:This fully illustrated program will focus on 19th and 20th century photographic print materials\, their identification\, deterioration\, and methods and practices to ensure their long-term preservation. \n\n\n\nDebra Hess Norris is Chair of the Department of Art Conservation\, Unidel Henry Francis du Pont Chair of Fine Arts\, and Professor of Photograph Conservation at the University of Delaware. An internationally recognized leader in photograph conservation\, she has authored more than 45 articles and book chapters and taught more than 165 workshops and seminars for conservators and allied professionals in more than 40 countries. She served for more than 25 years as Director of the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation. Norris co-edited Issues in the Conservation of Photographs (Getty Conservation Institute\, 2010) and\, most recently\, The Conservation of Photographic Collections: Significance\, Use and Care (Routledge\, 2025)\, an international collaboration involving more than 100 authors. DESCRIPTION:ArtTable’s Curator’s Choice program is a dynamic\, Pecha Kucha-style presentation featuring three curators\, each offering a unique perspective on the artists and works they believe best define the current moment in American art. During the program\, each curator will have 10 minutes to present three to five works of their choosing\, followed by 10 minutes of audience Q&A. The format is fast-paced\, engaging\, and encourages a range of viewpoints while fostering thoughtful conversation among arts professionals. \n\n\n\nAbout our Speakers: \n\n\n\nAlison Gass is ICA San Francisco’s Founding Executive Director. Her leadership in museums has reflected a sustained commitment to building globally-minded and community-engaged exhibitions programs and diversifying museums’ collections\, exhibition programs\, staff and visitorship. Gass was appointed the Dana Feitler Director of the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago where she launched the Feitler Center for Academic Engagement. Previously\, she was the Chief Curator at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University\, and Assistant Curator at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. ICA SF isn’t her first “startup” museum. After leaving SFMOMA\, Gass served as Founding Chief Curator at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University\, where she helped launch the new building\, recruited a staff\, and established a global contemporary art program. She holds degrees in Art History from Columbia University and the Institute of Fine Arts at NYU. \n\n\n\nAnni A. Pullagura\, PhD\, is the Margaret and Terry Stent Associate Curator of American Art at the High Museum of Art\, where she co-led a major reinstallation of the American galleries in 2026. Previously\, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Yale Center for British Art\, Yale University\, and the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts\, National Gallery of Art\, Washington\, DC\, and assistant curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston. An alum of the Center for Curatorial Leadership\, she has assisted on the organization of several national and international exhibitions\, monographs\, and publications\, and previously served on the Art of the Americas Advisory Think Tank for the Harvard Art Museums. Pullagura holds a doctorate in American Studies from Brown University. Her book manuscript\, Seeing Feeling: Troubling Empathy in American Art\, recasts the museum as the critical ground for engaging with the social and political dimensions of feeling and sentiment in the art encounter. \n\n\n\nClaudia E. Zapata (they/them) earned their PhD in art history at Southern Methodist University’s RASC/a: Rhetorics of Art\, Space\, and Culture program. They earned their BA and MA in art history from the University of Texas at Austin\, specializing in Maya art of the Classic period (250-900 CE). From 2010-2014\, Zapata was the curator of exhibitions and programs at the Mexic-Arte Museum. They served as curatorial assistant for Latinx art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum from 2018–2022. Zapata was part of the first cohort of Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellows at UCLA\, administered by the Chicano Research Center from 2022-2023.
