SUMMARY:Boston\, MA | Curator-Led Tour of "Portia Zvavahera" with Ruth Erickson
DESCRIPTION:Gather at ICA Boston for a guided tour of Portia Zvavahera with Ruth Erickson\, Barbara Lee Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs! \n\n\n\nPortia Zvavahera (b. 1985 in Harare\, Zimbabwe) draws from her dreams to create layered paintings that evoke moments of transition and transcendence. For the artist\, the act of painting is akin to an act of worship. Across her work\, Zvavahera engages deeply with the African Pentecostal and Indigenous Shona traditions in which she was raised\, illuminating the centrality of dreams\, ancestors\, and revelation to both belief systems. The artist merges painting and printmaking techniques to conjure worlds glimpsed in her dreams\, where figures commune with spirits\, and protective comforts and nightmares collide in stirring unions. Culling from an array of sources ranging from the angels and demons of medieval European devotional art to the vibrant patterns of Zimbabwean textile designs\, Zvavahera constructs what the art historian Tamar Garb has described as “a unique and porous pictorial world.”  For the ICA\, her first solo museum exhibition in the U.S.\, Zvavahera is presenting a selection of recent paintings centered on the theme of animals\, considering how they populate her work as well as the collective imagination.   \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guests – $20\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $25\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? Over the past thirty years Morris has established a sophisticated visual lexicon to expand the limits and possibilities of non-objective abstraction in painting. The survey Rebecca Morris: 2001–2022\, curated by Jamillah James\, opened at the ICA Los Angeles in 2022 and traveled to the MCA Chicago in 2023\, accompanied by a comprehensive monograph. Morris has been the subject of significant solo institutional exhibitions at the Blaffer Art Museum\, Houston (2019); Bonnefanten Museum\, The Netherlands (2014); LAXART\, Los Angeles (2014); and The Renaissance Society\, Chicago (2005). Her work has been included in notable group shows at the Wexner Center for the Arts\, Columbus (2018);  Made in L.A. at the Hammer Museum\, Los Angeles (2016)\, and the Whitney Biennial\, New York (2014). From 2015 through 2017\, her retrospective\, Marilyn Minter: Pretty/Dirty\, traveled to the Contemporary Arts Museum\, Houston (TX); the Museum of Contemporary Art\, Denver (CO); the Orange County Museum of Art\, Newport Beach (CA); and the Brooklyn Museum\, Brooklyn (NY). Her video Green Pink Caviar was on view at The Museum of Modern Art\, New York from 2010-2011. Her curatorial and educational engagements have focused on socially engaged art\, the history of exhibition making\, public art\, both temporary and permanent\, artist books\, and the intersections between art and activism. She has held roles in curatorial\, philanthropic\, and educational capacities including Chief Curator at the National Academy of Design (2021-2025)\, Executive and Artistic Director of the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation (2014-2021)\, and Director of New York City’s Percent for Art Program (2008-2014)\, where she managed more than 100 permanent public art commissions across New York City’s five boroughs. Reisman has taught art history and contemporary art at the University of Pennsylvania and SUNY Purchase School of Art + Design\, and since 2016\, she has been on the faculty at the School of Visual Arts’ Curatorial Practice MA Program. She also represents art clients in a wide variety of disputes including fraud\, breach of contract\, copyright infringement\, and artist gallery relationships. \n\n\n\nKatie also writes\, teaches and speaks publicly about a variety of art law related topics. Presenting an array of paintings\, lace\, prints\, paper cuttings\, embroidery\, and sculpture\, this exhibition draws on recent scholarship to demonstrate that a full view of women’s contributions to the artistic economy is essential to understanding Dutch and Flemish visual culture of the period. \n\n\n\nVirginia (Ginny) Treanor\, Ph.D. serves as Senior Curator\, National Museum of Women in the Arts Treanor is the Senior Curator at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in Washington\, D.C. and holds a Ph.D. in seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish art\, which she earned at the University of Maryland. Scott | Renée Stout\, dovetails with the recent group exhibition\, Anonymous Was a Woman: The First 25 Years organized by and presented at the New York University’s Grey Art Museum\, April 1-July 19\, 2025\, and co-curated by Nancy Princenthal and Vesela Sretenović. \n\n\n\nThe Grey exhibition celebrated the first quarter-century of the Anonymous Was a Woman (AWAW) grant program\, established in 1996 by visionary philanthropist and artist Susan Unterberg. The program is dedicated to supporting mid-career women artists living and working in the United States. Its name refers to a phrase in Virginia Woolf’s essay A Room of One’s Own\, which underscores the challenges that creative women have historically faced in a male-dominated society.  \n\n\n\nThe Kreeger Museum’s exhibition\, curated by Sretenović\, focuses exclusively on four AWAW recipients who reside and work in the Washington\, DC metropolitan area: Jae Ko (AWAW 2012)\, linn meyers (AWAW 2023)\, Joyce J. Scott (AWAW 1997)\, and Renée Stout (AWAW 1999). While the Grey exhibition featured works created around the time of each artist’s award\, The Kreeger Museum’s presentation spotlights the most recent work of its participating artists\, picking up where the Grey show left off in 2020. Most recently (2009-23) she served as Director of Contemporary Art Initiatives and Academic Affairs at The Phillips Collection in Washington DC. During her tenure\, she had organized Intersections\, a series of ongoing contemporary art projects\, as well as monographic exhibitions of prominent artists including Robert Ryman\, Ellsworth Kelly\, Antony Gormley\, and the first museum retrospective of Cuban artist Zilia Sanchez. Additionally\, she oversaw academic partnership initiatives with the University of Maryland (UMD) and the University of Virginia (UVA). Prior to The Phillips\, Sretenović worked at Brown University\, the University at Buffalo SUNY\, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. She is a frequent visiting faculty\, teaching modern and contemporary art history and theory\, and works as an independent curator. DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable at the Wallach Art Gallery for a Curator-Led Tour of Lotty Rosenfeld: Disobedient Spaces with Julia Bryan-Wilson! \n\n\n\nOne of the most important feminist artists of the 20th century\, and one of the best-known within Latin America\, Lotty Rosenfeld (1943–2020) is renowned for her extensive practice with printmaking\, video\, and site-specific installation. Through these media\, Rosenfeld crafted political gestures that contested the militarization of everyday life and revealed the invisible code at the heart of the world’s market-based economies. A Chilean artist\, she also worked collaboratively with Colectivo Acciones de Arte (CADA) during the Pinochet dictatorship of 1973-1990. \n\n\n\nJulia Bryan-Wilson is Professor of Contemporary Art and LGBTQ+ Studies and core faculty in Columbia’s Institute for the Study of Sexuality and Gender. Bryan-Wilson is Curator-at-Large at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP)\, where she co-organized the major group exhibitions Women’s Histories\, Histories of Dance\, and Queer Histories. DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for a curator-led tour of Amy Sherald: American Sublime at the Baltimore Museum of Art!  \n\n\n\nThe exhibition tells the story of Sherald’s vision and practice through approximately 40 paintings created from 2007 to the present—from her early\, rarely seen works to her iconic\, larger-than-life portraits of Black Americans in everyday moments. \n\n\n\nAmerican Sublime in Baltimore is more than an exhibition—it’s an occasion of civic pride and cultural affirmation. Sherald graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art\, studying under the famed painter Grace Hartigan\, and worked in Baltimore during her formative years. \n\n\n\nAsma Naeem (she/her) was appointed the Dorothy Wagner Wallis Director at the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) in January 2023. She is the eleventh director of the 110-year-old museum and also the first person of color and the first person raised in Baltimore to lead the organization. \n\n\n\nNaeem is widely recognized for her advocacy of women and underrecognized artists\, for her scholarship in contemporary and American art\, and for her vision and work in collections diversification. She had previously served as the BMA’s Interim Co-Director since June 2022\, and as the Museum’s Eddie C. and C. Under the direction of the founders\, she oversees Glenstone’s 2\,000-piece contemporary art collection and art program. She serves on the museum’s Leadership Team\, driving overall strategy\, team management\, and culture. Cafritz is responsible for organizing exhibitions\, managing the loan program\, editing publications\, and supervising a team of around 15 curators\, conservators\, and collections specialists\, as well as working closely with artists on acquisitions and site-specific commissions. At Glenstone\, she has organized over a dozen major monographic exhibitions including recent presentations by Cady Noland\, Ellsworth Kelly\, Faith Ringgold\, Arthur Jafa\, Rirkrit Tiravanija\, Lygia Pape\, Martin Puryear\, and Michael Heizer. Prior to joining Glenstone\, she worked in external affairs at the National Museum of African Art\, Smithsonian Institution. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnnie Farrar is the Director of Registration at Glenstone where she leads Registration and Preparation and serves on the Core Management Team. Her areas of expertise include working with all media of contemporary art\, monumental scale artworks\, international shipping and logistics\, courier travel\, sustainability\, and interest in fine art insurance. She has presented at professional organizations including the American Alliance of Museums\, the Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists\, and the Museum Computer Network. Prior to coming to Glenstone she held registration positions at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. She has a BFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MA in Museum Studies & Collections Management from George Washington University.

This presentation can include real-world logistics case studies and showcase complex and high-value art movements\, including monumental public artworks\, fragile historical pieces\, and challenging site-specific installations. The purpose being to demonstrate creative problem-solving\, innovative packing solutions\, collaboration with art collectors and professionals to ensure works remain protected and accessible for the future. Some sub-topics the talk will focus on are:  \n\n\n\n•Provenance Research: Understanding the importance of historical ownership\, authenticity\, and cultural due diligence.  \n\n\n\n•Condition Reporting: How to create thorough\, objective documentation to safeguard the value and integrity of artworks.  \n\n\n\n•Inventory & Documentation Best Practices: Maintaining accurate\, accessible records for collection management and institutional accountability.  \n\n\n\n•Safe Handling & Transport Protocols: Standards for packing\, climate control\, insurance\, and coordination with specialized art shippers. \n\n\n\nThe zoom link will be provided upon registration.  \n\n\n\nYudelka Tavera is a Project Manager for the Contemporary Art and Museums Department at Gander and White Miami\, where she oversees complex domestic and international art movements\, high-value collections\, and large-scale museum installations. She has more than twenty years of experience in arts education\, curation\, collection management\, and fine art logistics\, and has worked as an art advisor and consultant for private collections in the United States and internationally. Her diverse experience in education\, curation\, advisory\, and logistics gives her a hands-on understanding of the full lifecycle of an artwork: from acquisition and transportation\, to installation and long-term maintenance and care. \n\n\n\nYudelka has previously held roles at Evelyn Aimis Fine Art and the Clark Art Institute and is recognized as a liaison among artists\, collectors\, conservators\, galleries\, auction houses\, and museums. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the State University of New York atAlbany\, completed coursework in fine art and conservation practice at Scuola Lorenzo de’ Medici in Florence\, and has earned graduate certificates in Art Management and Visual Communications from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Columbia University. She has over a decade of experience working with Korea’s National Assembly and Ministry of Culture\, Sports and Tourism\, where she contributed to policy development on digital innovation\, cultural infrastructure\, and artist welfare. \n\n\n\nAs a Co-founder and Chair of the AI Art Forum (AiAF)\, Mika leads international dialogue on AI ethics\, authorship\, and cultural trust in machine-mediated creativity. She also serves as Strategy & Partnership Director at Niio Art\, a global media art platform\, and  Co-founder  of Space Ba\, a curatorial studio advancing cross-sector collaborations that bridge urban regeneration\, media art\, and public engagement. \n\n\n\nHer initiatives include developing AI-driven systems for aesthetic classification and content governance through Realsnap\, and spearheading AMFM (Audio\, Music & Further More)\, a creative consortium promoting K-Audio and sound design as new pillars of the global creative economy. \n\n\n\nMika’s writing has appeared in Artsy\, ENCATC Magazine\, and Harvard Art Law Organization\, and she has presented her research at international venues such as UNESCO-affiliated forums\, Frieze Seoul\, and Cinema for Peace Foundation. DESCRIPTION:Photography by Ben Gancsos\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGather at the Whitney Museum of American Art for a guided tour of the Whitney Biennial 2026! \n\n\n\n\nThe eighty-second edition of the Whitney Biennial—the longest-running survey of contemporary art in the United States—features work of 56 artists\, duos\, and collectives that reflects the current moment and examines various forms of relationality\, including interspecies kinships\, familial relations\, geopolitical entanglements\, technological affinities\, shared mythologies\, and infrastructural supports. \n\n\n\nWhitney Biennial 2026 offers a vivid atmospheric survey of contemporary American art shaped by a moment of profound transition. Rather than offering a definitive answer to life today\, this Whitney Biennial foregrounds mood and texture\, inviting visitors into environments that evoke tension\, tenderness\, humor\, and unease. Together\, the works capture the complexity of the present and propose imaginative\, unruly\, and unexpected forms of coexistence.  \n\n\n\nMarcela Guerrero is the DeMartini Family Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art\, New York. Alongside Drew Sawyer\, Guerrero is the co-curator of the eighty-second edition of the Whitney Biennial—the longest-running survey of contemporary art in the United States. At the Whitney\, Guerrero also curated no existe un mundo poshuracán: Puerto Rican Art in the Wake of Hurricane Maria and Martine Gutierrez: Supremacy in 2022-23\, among other exhibitions. From 2014 to 2017\, she was the Curatorial Fellow for Radical Women: Latin American Art\, 1960-1985 organized at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Prior to joining the Hammer\, she worked in the Latin American and Latino art department at the Museum of Fine Arts\, Houston. Guerrero’s writing has appeared in several exhibition catalogues and in art journals.
