DESCRIPTION:People of all gender identities are allies in supporting women and nonbinary professionals’ leadership in the arts\, and everyone is welcome to attend our Benefit events.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails on Ticket Levels Below \n\n\n\nPlease join us at the Bohemian National Hall in New York City\, honoring ArtTable’s 2025 Distinguished Service to the Visual Arts Awardee Komal Shah\, and New Leadership Awardee Danielle Amodeo.  \n\n\n\nArtTable’s Annual Benefit & Award Ceremony was launched in 1993\, 13 years after the organization was founded. The inaugural event honored actress\, singer\, television personality\, spokesperson for the arts\, and then Chair of the New York State Council on the Arts\, Kitty Carlisle Hart\, with the first-ever Distinguished Service to the Visual Arts Award. In following years\, the event would go on to honor trailblazers and powerhouse women in the arts\, including Agnes Gund\, Marcia Tucker\, Yoko Ono\, Thelma Golden\, Lowery Stokes Sims\, and many more. SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Curator-Led Tour of "Anonymous Was a Woman: The First 25 Years" at NYU's Grey Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for a curator-led tour of Anonymous Was A Woman: The First 25 Years at the Grey Art Museum at New York University\, led by exhibition co-curators Nancy Princenthal and Dr. Vesela Sretenović. \n\n\n\nIn 1996\, artist and philanthropist Susan Unterberg founded the Anonymous Was A Woman (AWAW) award\, making a simple\, yet radical commitment to redress the lack of institutional support for women visual artists over the age of 40. She sought to provide mid-career artists with the means to procure workspace\, art supplies\, childcare\, or whatever else they needed to further their artistic careers. For the past two and a half decades\, AWAW has provided unrestricted grants of $25\,000 to ten or more artists each year.  \n\n\n\nShowcasing some 50 artworks by 41 of the 251 award recipients from AWAW’s first 25 years (1996 through 2020)\, this exhibition explores several themes surrounding anonymity and\, ultimately\, celebrates the transformative impact women artists have made on contemporary art since the award’s founding. With each year represented by at least one artist\, the exhibition includes works created within a few years of their grant\, demonstrating the significance of the award to the artist’s growth. The range of artists featured in the exhibition demonstrates the demographic and aesthetic diversity of past awardees. She is also the author of Hannah Wilke (2010) and Unspeakable Acts: Women\, Art\, and Sexual Violence in the 1970s (2019)\, and co-author of Mothers of Invention: The Feminist Roots of Contemporary Art (2024). Princenthal has taught at Bard\, Princeton\, Yale\, the School of Visual Arts\, NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts\, and elsewhere. \n\n\n\nDr. Vesela Sretenović has been a long-time curator of modern and contemporary art with special interest in cross-disciplinary art practices and in bridging theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. Most recently (2009-23) she served as Director of Contemporary Art Initiatives and Academic Affairs at The Phillips Collection in Washington DC. During her tenure\, she had organized Intersections\, a series of ongoing contemporary art projects\, as well as monographic exhibitions of prominent artists including Robert Ryman\, Ellsworth Kelly\, Antony Gormley\, and the first museum retrospective of Cuban artist Zilia Sanchez. Additionally\, she oversaw academic partnership initiatives with the University of Maryland (UMD) and the University of Virginia (UVA). Prior to The Phillips\, Sretenović worked at Brown University\, the University at Buffalo SUNY\, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. She is a frequent visiting faculty\, teaching modern and contemporary art history and theory\, and works as an independent curator. DESCRIPTION:Moira Dryer. The Perpetual Painting\, 1988. \n\n\n\nYou’re invited to our next NY MeetAT networking event on April 8\, graciously hosted by Olivia Smith\, Director at Magenta Plains. Join us for an evening of light refreshments and engaging conversations with fellow ArtTable members and new connections. \n\n\n\nMagenta Plains was founded in the Lower East Side in 2016 and relocated to a multi-floor\, 4\,500 square-foot space at the intersection of Canal Street and Bowery in 2022. With an intergenerational emphasis\, the gallery’s mission is to foster context and meaning for the development of new ideas and emerging art as well as to exhibit and preserve older generations of artists’ work. The gallery has organized more than 65 exhibitions and presents a dynamic discourse through curated group shows and programming across a multitude of disciplines.The gallery represents artists including Jennifer Bolande\, Ebecho Muslimova\, Rachel Rossin\, Ken Lum\, Zach Bruder\, Don Dudley\, the Estate of Barbara Ess\, Tiril Hasselknippe\, Jibade-Khalil Huffman\, Alex Kwartler\, Liza Lacroix\, Matt Keegan\, Anne Libby\, Chason Matthams\, Peter Nagy\, Bill Saylor\, Jane Swavely\, and the Stan VanDerBeek Archive. Additionally\, the gallery presents a dynamic discourse through its program of curated group shows and project-based solo exhibitions including Sascha Braunig\, Danica Lundy\, Daniel Boccato\, David Ostrowski\, Matthew Metzger\, Alexis Rockman\, and Alan Uglow.Magenta Plains has presented memorable historical solo exhibitions including William Wegman’s rare\, altered photographs and drawings from the 1970s and 80s\, Lillian Schwartz’ critically acclaimed debut New York solo gallery show at age 89\, German artist Georg Herold’s caviar paintings and sculptures\, a critically acclaimed exhibition of paintings from the 1980s by Martha Diamond\, an exhibition of Tina Girouard’s rarely exhibited “DNA-Icons” series\, and new found object sculptures by Jon Kessler. The gallery also looks forward to upcoming presentations of works by Moira Dryer and Paul Gardère. \n\n\n\nFrom March 13 – April 25\, 2025\, Magenta Plains will present Ebecho Muslimova & Maria Lassnig\, an exhibition that brings together the work of two artists who confront the psychological and physical experience of the body in profoundly individual yet resonant ways.
