Contemporary figures such as Cat Chow\, Mary Ping\, and Tavares Strachan exemplify the fluid\, modern boundary that exemplifies how these worlds can merge.  \n\n\n\nArt X Fashion equally surveys the ways in which fashion has been inspired by fine art. Through examples from designers such as Gianni Versace and Franco Moschino\, the exhibition spotlights ways that fashion has used odes to Pop Art classics as a means of commenting on consumer and celebrity culture. These replications of famous artworks on garments and accessories democratized these priceless masterpieces for a mass audience\, lending value\, recognition\, and even humor to fashion pieces\, but also adding cultural capital to the artworks. Under the direction of the founders\, she oversees Glenstone’s 2\,000-piece contemporary art collection and art program. She serves on the museum’s Leadership Team\, driving overall strategy\, team management\, and culture. Cafritz is responsible for organizing exhibitions\, managing the loan program\, editing publications\, and supervising a team of around 15 curators\, conservators\, and collections specialists\, as well as working closely with artists on acquisitions and site-specific commissions. At Glenstone\, she has organized over a dozen major monographic exhibitions including recent presentations by Cady Noland\, Ellsworth Kelly\, Faith Ringgold\, Arthur Jafa\, Rirkrit Tiravanija\, Lygia Pape\, Martin Puryear\, and Michael Heizer. Sherald graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art\, studying under the famed painter Grace Hartigan\, and worked in Baltimore during her formative years. \n\n\n\nAsma Naeem (she/her) was appointed the Dorothy Wagner Wallis Director at the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) in January 2023. She is the eleventh director of the 110-year-old museum and also the first person of color and the first person raised in Baltimore to lead the organization. \n\n\n\nNaeem is widely recognized for her advocacy of women and underrecognized artists\, for her scholarship in contemporary and American art\, and for her vision and work in collections diversification. She had previously served as the BMA’s Interim Co-Director since June 2022\, and as the Museum’s Eddie C. and C. Scott | Renée Stout\, dovetails with the recent group exhibition\, Anonymous Was a Woman: The First 25 Years organized by and presented at the New York University’s Grey Art Museum\, April 1-July 19\, 2025\, and co-curated by Nancy Princenthal and Vesela Sretenović. \n\n\n\nThe Grey exhibition celebrated the first quarter-century of the Anonymous Was a Woman (AWAW) grant program\, established in 1996 by visionary philanthropist and artist Susan Unterberg. The program is dedicated to supporting mid-career women artists living and working in the United States. Its name refers to a phrase in Virginia Woolf’s essay A Room of One’s Own\, which underscores the challenges that creative women have historically faced in a male-dominated society.  \n\n\n\nThe Kreeger Museum’s exhibition\, curated by Sretenović\, focuses exclusively on four AWAW recipients who reside and work in the Washington\, DC metropolitan area: Jae Ko (AWAW 2012)\, linn meyers (AWAW 2023)\, Joyce J. Scott (AWAW 1997)\, and Renée Stout (AWAW 1999). While the Grey exhibition featured works created around the time of each artist’s award\, The Kreeger Museum’s presentation spotlights the most recent work of its participating artists\, picking up where the Grey show left off in 2020. Most recently (2009-23) she served as Director of Contemporary Art Initiatives and Academic Affairs at The Phillips Collection in Washington DC. During her tenure\, she had organized Intersections\, a series of ongoing contemporary art projects\, as well as monographic exhibitions of prominent artists including Robert Ryman\, Ellsworth Kelly\, Antony Gormley\, and the first museum retrospective of Cuban artist Zilia Sanchez. Additionally\, she oversaw academic partnership initiatives with the University of Maryland (UMD) and the University of Virginia (UVA). Prior to The Phillips\, Sretenović worked at Brown University\, the University at Buffalo SUNY\, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. She is a frequent visiting faculty\, teaching modern and contemporary art history and theory\, and works as an independent curator. Her curatorial and educational engagements have focused on socially engaged art\, the history of exhibition making\, public art\, both temporary and permanent\, artist books\, and the intersections between art and activism. She has held roles in curatorial\, philanthropic\, and educational capacities including Chief Curator at the National Academy of Design (2021-2025)\, Executive and Artistic Director of the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation (2014-2021)\, and Director of New York City’s Percent for Art Program (2008-2014)\, where she managed more than 100 permanent public art commissions across New York City’s five boroughs. Reisman has taught art history and contemporary art at the University of Pennsylvania and SUNY Purchase School of Art + Design\, and since 2016\, she has been on the faculty at the School of Visual Arts’ Curatorial Practice MA Program. Jones\, EnsembleThe Metropolitan Museum of Art’s newest Roof Garden Commission is on view April 15 through October 19\, 2025\, and features a dynamic work by artist Jennie C. Jones (born 1968\, Cincinnati\, Ohio). Titled Ensemble\, the site-responsive installation is composed of three large sculptural forms based on string instruments—a trapezoidal zither; a tall Aeolian harp; and a doubled\, leaning one-string—corralled on two sides by a floor piece that serves as both a “conductor” of the ensemble and a boundary-marker of the stage-like surface on which it sits. Highlights of Susan’s collection include work by Nick Cave\, Cindy Sherman\, Josephine Meckseper\, Solange Pessoa\, Elmgreen & Dragset\, Joel Perlman\, Tom Sachs\, Daniel Arsham\, Toni Ross\, and Vik Muniz. \n\n\n\nAt Guild Hall\, Museum Director and Curator of Visual Arts Melanie Crader will lead attendees on a tour of Mary Heilmann: Water Way. This exhibition is the artist’s first large-scale solo presentation with an institution on the East End of Long Island\, where she has been an integral part of the region’s creative community for decades. From California to New York City to Bridgehampton\, Heilmann has prioritized living in close proximity to water\, which has had a profound influence on her life and work. Whether as a direct image or referential title\, water has long been a recurring theme throughout her practice.  Guild Hall is pleased to realize an exhibition that Heilmann has had a strong desire to stage—one that brings together over 40 works of a focused area of her output. The banshee is a female spirit in Irish folklore who heralds the death of a family member\, usually by screaming\, wailing\, or shrieking. The cry of the spirit is mournful beyond all other sounds on earth\, in the silence of the night. Here\, the Banshee is re-embodied as contemporary cries of protest and refusal\, and the notion of “good girl” / “bad girl.” With concrete\, neon\, steel\, ceramic\, wood\, glass\, and leather – distinctive material choices and juxtapositions – a disregard for rules of the game unfolds. The Banshees negotiate tensions through dream theory\, mythology\, and history. Curator Allison Pappas will lead attendees on a tour of Arresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron at 12:30pm\, followed by a short break. After the break\, Claire Gilman will lead attendees on a tour of Lisa Yuskavage: Drawings. \n\n\n\nArresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron explores the path-breaking career of photography’s first widely recognized artist. Cameron (1815–1879) was born in Calcutta (modern day Kolkata) to a French mother and an English father; in 1848\, with her husband and children\, she moved to England\, where her sisters introduced her to the elite cultural circles in which they traveled. Residing on the Isle of Wight\, where she was close neighbors with the poet Alfred Tennyson\, Cameron acquired her first camera at age 48. In only eleven years she would create thousands of exposures and leave an enduring image of the Victorian era as an age of intellectual and spiritual ambition. \n\n\n\nLisa Yuskavage: Drawings is the first comprehensive museum presentation of the artist’s drawings. Incorporating drawings from the early nineties to the present and including sketches and finished studies\, the exhibition will feature a wide range of her explorations with materials including work in graphite\, pen\, Conte\, pastel\, charcoal\, distemper\, monotype\, gouache\, watercolor\, acrylic and ink on paper. It will chart Yuskavage’s career-long inquiry into how process and material experimentation create entirely new ways to find images. From her earliest drawings of imagined figures and still lives\, through a period of investigation into what constitutes a model\, to her recent studio and landscape scenes synthesizing the real and the imagined into a new kind of fictional reality\, Yuskavage’s drawings give insight into the way we see and comprehend the world.
