SUMMARY:Baltimore\, MD | Curator-Led Tour of "Amy Sherald: American Sublime" with Asma Naeem
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for a curator-led tour of Amy Sherald: American Sublime at the Baltimore Museum of Art!  \n\n\n\nThe exhibition tells the story of Sherald’s vision and practice through approximately 40 paintings created from 2007 to the present—from her early\, rarely seen works to her iconic\, larger-than-life portraits of Black Americans in everyday moments. \n\n\n\nAmerican Sublime in Baltimore is more than an exhibition—it’s an occasion of civic pride and cultural affirmation. Sherald graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art\, studying under the famed painter Grace Hartigan\, and worked in Baltimore during her formative years. \n\n\n\nAsma Naeem (she/her) was appointed the Dorothy Wagner Wallis Director at the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) in January 2023. She is the eleventh director of the 110-year-old museum and also the first person of color and the first person raised in Baltimore to lead the organization. \n\n\n\nNaeem is widely recognized for her advocacy of women and underrecognized artists\, for her scholarship in contemporary and American art\, and for her vision and work in collections diversification. She had previously served as the BMA’s Interim Co-Director since June 2022\, and as the Museum’s Eddie C. and C. Sylvia Brown Chief Curator since 2018\, organizing exhibitions on the work of such artists as Candice Breitz\, Isaac Julien\, Salman Toor\, and Valerie Maynard. Her most recent exhibition\, The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century\, still on tour\, explored the political\, cultural\, and aesthetic attributes that have made hip hop a global phenomenon and established it as the artistic canon of our time. \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $35\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $25\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guests – $30\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:Washington\, DC | Curator-Led Tour of "Anonymous Was a Woman: Jae Ko | linn meyers | Joyce J. Scott | Renée Stout" with Dr. Vesela Sretenović
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for a curator-led tour of Anonymous Was A Woman: Jae Ko | linn meyers | Joyce J. Scott | Renée Stout at The Kreeger Museum\, led by exhibition curators Dr. Vesela Sretenović. \n\n\n\nAnonymous Was a Woman: Jae Ko | linn meyers | Joyce J. Scott | Renée Stout\, dovetails with the recent group exhibition\, Anonymous Was a Woman: The First 25 Years organized by and presented at the New York University’s Grey Art Museum\, April 1-July 19\, 2025\, and co-curated by Nancy Princenthal and Vesela Sretenović. \n\n\n\nThe Grey exhibition celebrated the first quarter-century of the Anonymous Was a Woman (AWAW) grant program\, established in 1996 by visionary philanthropist and artist Susan Unterberg. The program is dedicated to supporting mid-career women artists living and working in the United States. Its name refers to a phrase in Virginia Woolf’s essay A Room of One’s Own\, which underscores the challenges that creative women have historically faced in a male-dominated society.  \n\n\n\nThe Kreeger Museum’s exhibition\, curated by Sretenović\, focuses exclusively on four AWAW recipients who reside and work in the Washington\, DC metropolitan area: Jae Ko (AWAW 2012)\, linn meyers (AWAW 2023)\, Joyce J. Scott (AWAW 1997)\, and Renée Stout (AWAW 1999). While the Grey exhibition featured works created around the time of each artist’s award\, The Kreeger Museum’s presentation spotlights the most recent work of its participating artists\, picking up where the Grey show left off in 2020. Moreover\, whereas the Grey offered a broader overview of artistic production by women-artists in the first 25 years of the award\, The Kreeger Museum aims to present a more focused\, in-depth look at the new works of Ko\, meyers\, Scott\, and Stout. \n\n\n\nIn this respect\, The Kreeger Museum’s exhibition not only celebrates artists based in the DMV area —aligning with the Museum’s mission—but also extends the reach of the AWAW program beyond New York City\, further disseminating its mission: to support and bring greater visibility to the creative output of women artists. \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $30\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $20\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guests – $25\n\n\n\n\n\nAll registrants for this event will be provided with a 20% discount on ArtTable’s limited edition scarf celebrating 25 Years of Anonymous Was a Woman\, created in 2021 in conjunction with ArtTable’s 45 year anniversary and the year Susan Unterberg received the Distinguished Service to the Visual Arts Award. Made of 100% silk habotai\, only a handful of scarves remain in our inventory! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? Join today! \n\n\n\nAll program registration fees go toward event expenses and administrative costs for the organization. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Curator \n\n\n\nDr. Vesela Sretenović has been a long-time curator of modern and contemporary art with special interest in cross-disciplinary art practices and in bridging theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. Most recently (2009-23) she served as Director of Contemporary Art Initiatives and Academic Affairs at The Phillips Collection in Washington DC. During her tenure\, she had organized Intersections\, a series of ongoing contemporary art projects\, as well as monographic exhibitions of prominent artists including Robert Ryman\, Ellsworth Kelly\, Antony Gormley\, and the first museum retrospective of Cuban artist Zilia Sanchez. Additionally\, she oversaw academic partnership initiatives with the University of Maryland (UMD) and the University of Virginia (UVA). Prior to The Phillips\, Sretenović worked at Brown University\, the University at Buffalo SUNY\, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. She is a frequent visiting faculty\, teaching modern and contemporary art history and theory\, and works as an independent curator. Sretenović holds a BA in Art History from University of Belgrade\, Former Yugoslavia\, an MA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago\, and a PhD in Humanities from Syracuse University. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImage credits:Pictured (left to right): Detail\, linn meyers\, The Moon is a Thief\, 2025\, acrylic ink and acrylic gouache on linen. SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Private Collection Tour of the Deutsche Bank Art Collection
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for a private collection tour at the Deutsche Bank Center. \n\n\n\nLocated in the center of one of the world’s most multi-cutural cities\, the Deutsche Bank Collection at Columbus Circle reflects New York’s globally renowned and vibrant contemporary art scene. Since it was established in the late 1970s\, the collection has focused on the medium of paper\, and there is a reason for this: the idea was that art should not be hung only on the executive floors and lobbies\, but in all of its offices and retail branches. Works on paper\, drawings\, collages\, and photographs serve this purpose well\, among other things because of their high artistic quality and their experimental spirit. With this strategy\, the Deutsche Bank Collection broke new ground at the time. \n\n\n\nHighlights of the Deutsche Bank Collection include Joan Mitchell\, Jennie C. Jones\, HelenFrankenthaler\, Wangechi Mutu\, Keith Haring\, Eva Hesse\, Carrie Mae Weems\, Amy Sillman\, and more. You can read more about the collection here. \n\n\n\n\n\nProgram Admission: This program is open to ArtTable Executive\, Circle\, Patron\, and Benefactor members until October 3. If space allows\, this program will open to other membership levels and the general public. \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $45\n\n\n\nArtTable Guests – $55\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? DESCRIPTION:In today’s increasingly polarized cultural and political landscape\, arts professionals are grappling with urgent questions: How do institutions remain true to their missions while navigating the risks of presenting complex or controversial narratives? What role does censorship play in shaping the stories we tell through exhibitions\, acquisitions\, publications\, and programming? \n\n\n\nArtTable’s 2025 Annual Leadership Series returns with a timely conversation on the evolving responsibilities of arts institutions in an era of heightened scrutiny and constrained freedoms. This year’s panel features acclaimed artist Marilyn Minter\, cultural leader and curator Sara Reisman\, and art lawyer Katherine Wilson-Milne\, in conversation with moderator Elizabeth Larison\, Arts and Culture Advocacy Program Director at National Coalition Against Censorship. Scroll down to learn more about our panelists! \n\n\n\nTogether\, these thought leaders will explore the challenges and strategies involved in sustaining truthful\, inclusive storytelling across all areas of the arts ecosystem. From debates over funding and institutional values to efforts to protect curatorial independence and artistic freedom\, the discussion will offer insights for anyone invested in the future of the arts. \n\n\n\nWhether you work in a museum\, manage a gallery\, support artists through legal or philanthropic means\, or collect and preserve art\, this event offers critical perspectives and practical strategies for navigating today’s cultural crossroads. \n\n\n\nJoin us on September 25\, 2025\, for this vital dialogue and an opportunity to engage with leading voices at the intersection of art and public discourse. Jones (born 1968\, Cincinnati\, Ohio). Titled Ensemble\, the site-responsive installation is composed of three large sculptural forms based on string instruments—a trapezoidal zither; a tall Aeolian harp; and a doubled\, leaning one-string—corralled on two sides by a floor piece that serves as both a “conductor” of the ensemble and a boundary-marker of the stage-like surface on which it sits. Full of sonic potential\, the sculptures sit quietly in place\, waiting to be heard. The Roof Garden Commission: Jennie C. SUMMARY:East Hampton\, NY | ArtTable Day Trip to the Hamptons: Onna House\, Collection Visit\, & Guild Hall
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate summer at ArtTable’s 2025 day trip to the Hamptons! Attendees will visit three locations in East Hampton: Onna House\, long-time ArtTable member and art collector Susan Jacobson’s Home\, and Mary Heilmann: Water Way at Guild Hall. \n\n\n\nPlease note that this program does not include transportation. Each attendee is responsible for their own transportation. \n\n\n\nHoused in a Japanese modernist 1960s residence in the center of East Hampton\, Onna House is a sanctuary filled with art\, furniture\, and objects by women artists and designers exclusively. With a dual mission to support and create visibility for these artists and provide a gallery space to display their work\, founder Lisa Perry combines her passions under one roof to carefully curate the private home and studio. Onna House acts as a space for women artists to engage and collaborate and for collectors to discover new work. \n\n\n\nLunch will be provided at the home of long-time ArtTable member and art collector Susan Jacobson! Highlights of Susan’s collection include work by Nick Cave\, Cindy Sherman\, Josephine Meckseper\, Solange Pessoa\, Elmgreen & Dragset\, Joel Perlman\, Tom Sachs\, Daniel Arsham\, Toni Ross\, and Vik Muniz. \n\n\n\nAt Guild Hall\, Museum Director and Curator of Visual Arts Melanie Crader will lead attendees on a tour of Mary Heilmann: Water Way. This exhibition is the artist’s first large-scale solo presentation with an institution on the East End of Long Island\, where she has been an integral part of the region’s creative community for decades. From California to New York City to Bridgehampton\, Heilmann has prioritized living in close proximity to water\, which has had a profound influence on her life and work. Whether as a direct image or referential title\, water has long been a recurring theme throughout her practice.  Guild Hall is pleased to realize an exhibition that Heilmann has had a strong desire to stage—one that brings together over 40 works of a focused area of her output. The exhibition includes works on paper\, ceramics\, and paintings spanning from the 1980s through the present. \n\n\n\nITINERARY: \n\n\n\nEach attendee is responsible for transportation between venues. SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Summer Party at Asya Geisberg Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Banshees\, group exhibition at Asya Geisberg Gallery\n\n\n\nThis summer in New York\, we are stepping out of the sun and into the Asya Geisberg Gallery for a Summer Party on Wednesday\, July 16\, from 5:30 PM – 7 PM. \n\n\n\nJoin us for some light refreshments\, some gorgeous art\, and lively conversations with ArtTable members and other visual arts professionals. \n\n\n\nThis networking event lines up perfectly with the Chelsea & Tribeca Gallery Walk\, happening from 6 – 8 PM. Whether you start your night with us and head out for more art afterward\, or swing by while strolling through Tribeca\, be sure to stop in to mingle with ArtTable members and fellow art lovers. \n\n\n\nMake sure to register below\, so that we know you are coming! We look forward to seeing you there! \n\n\n\nAbout Asya Geisberg GalleryAsya Geisberg Gallery opened in Chelsea in late 2010 with a mission to create a space conducive to intellectual inquiry and cultural cross-pollination\, where ideas about art\, and art about ideas\, were at the forefront. After 10+ years\, the gallery has relocated to the heart of Tribeca and joined its vibrant arts community. Our program is visually eclectic and conceptually focused\, encompassing work in all media. We represent young emerging artists as well as international artists otherwise unrepresented in the US\, many of whom work across multiple media such as ceramics\, textiles\, painting\, photography\, and sculpture\, with an interest in world history\, archaeology\, and cultural politics from a non-US perspective. Our artists have been reviewed in the New York Times\, Artforum\, The New Yorker\, The Wall Street Journal\, and international publications. The gallery has shown at art fairs including The Armory Show\, NADA NY\, UNTITLED Miami\, UNTITLED San Francisco\, ExpoChicago\, ZONAMACO\, Photofairs\, Future Fair\, and Art Los Angeles Contemporary (ALAC). Asya Geisberg Gallery is a proud member of the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) and ArtTable. \n\n\n\nAsya Geisberg Gallery is pleased to present “Banshees Remix\,” a resurrected and expanded group exhibition of eighteen women sculptors whose work uses traditionally femme signifiers to subvert gendered narratives and traditions through a manipulation of scale\, material\, and surface. The banshee is a female spirit in Irish folklore who heralds the death of a family member\, usually by screaming\, wailing\, or shrieking. The cry of the spirit is mournful beyond all other sounds on earth\, in the silence of the night. Here\, the Banshee is re-embodied as contemporary cries of protest and refusal\, and the notion of “good girl” / “bad girl.” With concrete\, neon\, steel\, ceramic\, wood\, glass\, and leather – distinctive material choices and juxtapositions – a disregard for rules of the game unfolds. The Banshees negotiate tensions through dream theory\, mythology\, and history. The works’ physical presence and symbolic power both reveal and distort perception. \n\n\n\nAre you considering joining ArtTable and want to know more about who we are and what we do? This is a great opportunity for potential members to get to know us! \n\n\n\nAdmission: \n\n\n\n\nFREE to ArtTable Members and their guests\n\n\n\nFREE to prospective members\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Curator-Led Tours of "Arresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron" & "Lisa Yuskavage: Drawings" at the Morgan Library & Museum
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to present two back to back curator-led tours at the Morgan Library & Museum! Curator Allison Pappas will lead attendees on a tour of Arresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron at 12:30pm\, followed by a short break. After the break\, Claire Gilman will lead attendees on a tour of Lisa Yuskavage: Drawings. \n\n\n\nArresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron explores the path-breaking career of photography’s first widely recognized artist. Cameron (1815–1879) was born in Calcutta (modern day Kolkata) to a French mother and an English father; in 1848\, with her husband and children\, she moved to England\, where her sisters introduced her to the elite cultural circles in which they traveled. Residing on the Isle of Wight\, where she was close neighbors with the poet Alfred Tennyson\, Cameron acquired her first camera at age 48. In only eleven years she would create thousands of exposures and leave an enduring image of the Victorian era as an age of intellectual and spiritual ambition. \n\n\n\nLisa Yuskavage: Drawings is the first comprehensive museum presentation of the artist’s drawings. Incorporating drawings from the early nineties to the present and including sketches and finished studies\, the exhibition will feature a wide range of her explorations with materials including work in graphite\, pen\, Conte\, pastel\, charcoal\, distemper\, monotype\, gouache\, watercolor\, acrylic and ink on paper. It will chart Yuskavage’s career-long inquiry into how process and material experimentation create entirely new ways to find images. From her earliest drawings of imagined figures and still lives\, through a period of investigation into what constitutes a model\, to her recent studio and landscape scenes synthesizing the real and the imagined into a new kind of fictional reality\, Yuskavage’s drawings give insight into the way we see and comprehend the world. Within the jewel-like space of the Thaw Gallery\, the exhibition provides an immersive experience\, allowing the viewer to enter the artist’s mind. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $30\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guest – $40\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $50\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:Venice\, CA | MeetAT at L.A. Louver
DESCRIPTION:From the L.A. Louver Celebrates 50 Years exhibition from February 15 – June 14\, 2025. \n\n\n\nYou’re invited to a Venice\, CA. MeetAT networking event on June 12\, graciously hosted by Elizabeth East\, Director of L.A. Louver. Join us for an evening of light refreshments and engaging conversations with fellow ArtTable members and new connections. \n\n\n\nAbout L.A. Louver:L.A. Louver was established in 1975 with the mission to champion L.A. artists within an international program. In the fifty years that followed\, the gallery’s dynamic program has presented more than 660 exhibitions over the course of what has been the most significant period of creative growth in Southern California history. \n\n\n\nL.A. Louver Celebrates 50 YearsL.A. Louver is proud to celebrate their 50th anniversary with an exhibition surveying the gallery’s history\, from its formation in 1975 to now. They are delighted to commemorate this achievement with a presentation in all spaces of the gallery\, which remains on the same block as the original 1970s location. The exhibition is a portrait of L.A. Louver\, enriched and informed by history as much as the landscape of today. Though harkening back to key moments from the past\, the presentation offers points of nonlinear connection that elucidate the complex truth of an identity shaped by time\, place\, and people. Furthermore\, it is a tribute to the forces and memories that have shaped the gallery – the Bohemian art haven that was 1970s Venice Beach; the artists\, staff\, and community that have kept the program vibrant and dynamic; the bespoke building designed by Frederick Fisher & Partners that has held hundreds of exhibitions and events; and the artworks that have traveled the world. \n\n\n\nAre you considering joining ArtTable and want to know more about who we are and what we do? This is a great opportunity for potential members to get to know us! \n\n\n\nAdmission: \n\n\n\n\nFREE to ArtTable Members and their guests*\n\n\n\n\n*each member is allowed to bring one guest with them at this time \n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:New York\, NY | After Hours Reception and Tour of "Amy Sherald: American Sublime" at the Whitney Museum
DESCRIPTION:ArtTable invites you to a special evening at the Whitney Museum of American Art! \n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an after hours reception in the Whitney’s Trustee Room\, which features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Hudson and the High Line. The reception will include wine and light bites. \n\n\n\nAfter the reception\, join us for a guided tour of Amy Sherald: American Sublime and Louise Nevelson’s Collection View. \n\n\n\nAmy Sherald is a storyteller. She creates precisely crafted narratives of American life\, selecting\, styling\, and photographing her sitters as the foundation for her nuanced paintings. Thus\, while Sherald (b. 1973; Columbus\, Georgia) bases her works on specific people\, they are more than traditional portraits. They center everyday Black Americans\, compelling in their individuality and extraordinary in their ordinariness\, inviting viewers to step into Sherald’s imagined worlds. In this exhibition\, paintings of such ordinary Americans join her iconic portraits of First Lady Michelle Obama and\, heartbreakingly\, Breonna Taylor\, to produce a resonant ode to the multiplicity and complexity of American identity.  \n\n\n\nLouis Nevelson had a long and deep relationship with the Whitney Museum\, which organized her first retrospective in 1967. Today the Museum is one of the largest repositories of her work\, with over ninety sculptures\, drawings\, and prints in the collection\, many of them gifts of the artist. The works gathered in this exhibition\, which span four decades\, offer a special opportunity to shine a light on this self-proclaimed “architect of shadows.” \n\n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Member – $35\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guest – $40\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:Philadelphia\, PA | MeetAT at Arthur Ross Gallery
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a Philadelphia MeetAT networking event on May 30\, graciously hosted by Emily Zimmerman\, Director of Exhibitions and Curatorial Affairs at Arthur Ross Gallery. Join us for an evening of light refreshments and engaging conversations with fellow ArtTable members and new connections. \n\n\n\nThe Arthur Ross Gallery has a mission is to Engage\, Educate\, and Inspire. The Arthur Ross Gallery is a resource for the entire University community\, across schools and departments\, as well as the local community and scholars around the world. Located at the heart of the University of Pennsylvania\, the Arthur Ross Gallery is an intimate exhibition space that presents thought-provoking exhibitions of art across cultures\, media and time. Curators\, scholars\, artists\, and Penn students present original research through our exhibitions\, symposia\, and curatorial seminars. Exhibition-related programs include films\, music\, performances\, spoken word\, talks\, and tours. \n\n\n\nHoused in the historic Fisher Fine Arts Library building on the main campus of one of the world’s great research universities\, the Arthur Ross Gallery serves both the University and the Philadelphia communities. The Gallery is committed to advancing the teaching and research missions of the University through integrating knowledge across disciplines\, innovation\, and providing access through local\, national\, and global engagement. \n\n\n\nThe Gallery is free and open to the public. \n\n\n\nFor this event\, Arthur Ross Gallery is pleased to present Scattered Earth\, Sounded Depth: Penn Fine Arts MFA Thesis Exhibition\, featuring the work of Eissa Attar and Alvin Luong. \n\n\n\nThrough installation\, moving image\, and printmaking\, Attar and Luong offer poetic reflections on landscapes and cultural histories. Their works explore geography as a site of cultural memory and migration while critically examining documentary practices and modes of display. \n\n\n\nEissa Attar’s practice investigates migration\, belonging\, and entropy through photography and moving image works. In Extract You Again\, a series of sand drawings on acetate layered over images of consumer products and waste\, Attar reflects on cycles of consumption and erasure in Saudi Arabia’s evolving landscape. \n\n\n\nAlvin Luong’s multichannel video installation\, Corals of Bidong\, connects the history of Malaysia’s Bidong Island—once a refugee camp following the Vietnam War—to its present-day use as a coral research facility and a dubious coral wildlife trade. Developed over two years of intensive research\, the work offers a profound meditation on human and natural migration. Through video\, sculpture\, and installation\, Luong examines narratives of survival and the enduring social and environmental impacts of historical events. \n\n\n\nCurated by Emily Zimmerman\, Director of Exhibitions at the Arthur Ross Gallery\, this exhibition marks the debut of the MFA Thesis Exhibition at the Arthur Ross Gallery. \n\n\n\nAre you considering joining ArtTable and want to know more about who we are and what we do? SUMMARY:Boston\, MA | MeetAT at Gallery NAGA
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to our next Boston MeetAT networking event on May 22\, graciously hosted by Meg White\, Director of Gallery NAGA. Join us for an evening of light refreshments and engaging conversations with fellow ArtTable members and new connections. \n\n\n\nLocated within the Church of the Covenant in Boston’s historic Back Bay neighborhood\, Gallery NAGA (formerly Newbury Associated Guild of Artists) was founded in 1977\, when a group of artists placed their work on display in what used to be the chapel of the church.  \n\n\n\nAs we approach our 50th year\, we continue NAGA’s legacy as an inclusive and contemplative sanctuary for art and dialogue\, supporting both emerging and established artists in the New England area and beyond. \n\n\n\nWhile our primary focus is painting\, we also represent exceptional contemporary photographers\, printmakers\, and sculptors. We specialize in studio furniture\, presenting many of the premier makers of unique and limited edition furniture in the country. \n\n\n\nFor this event\, Gallery NAGA is pleased to present our fourth major solo exhibition of paintings by Nicole Chesney. \n\n\n\nNicole Chesney: New Paintings is on exhibition from May 2 to 31.  \n\n\n\nNicole Chesney’s abstract paintings are oil paint on acid-etched and mirrored glass.  This exhibition continues Chesney’s endless wondering with notions of sky and water and investigations of perception. \n\n\n\nGlass\, with all its transformative qualities\, is a surface onto which Nicole Chesney can add\, subtract\, and move oil paint around; colors are reflected in a way that canvas or paper doesn’t allow for.  Seen from one angle\, her painting surfaces are matte and brushy\, seen from another angle\, they are reflective and elusive. \n\n\n\nChesney’s work is exhibited and collected internationally including the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum\, Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston\, New Britain Museum of American Art\, Toledo Museum of Art\, Newport Art Museum\, RISD Museum\, Palm Springs Art Museum\, Corning Museum of Glass and many more. \n\n\n\nAre you considering joining ArtTable and want to know more about who we are and what we do? SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Curator-Led Tour of "Madalena Santos Reinbolt: A Head Full of Planets" at the American Folk Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for a curator-led tour of Madalena Santos Reinbolt: A Head Full of Planets at the American Folk Art Museum\, led by Valérie Rousseau\, PhD\, Curatorial Chair and Senior Curator of 20th-Century & Contemporary Art. \n\n\n\nFeaturing 42 textile works and oil paintings\, Madalena Santos Reinbolt: A Head Full of Planets is the first comprehensive survey of Santos Reinbolt’s art ever presented and marks the first-ever solo museum exhibition for the artist organized outside her native Brazil. Best known for her large-scale embroideries made from hundreds of vibrant colored threads\, which the artist referred to as quadros de lã (“wool paintings”)\, the exhibition represents more than half of all known works by the artist and examines the artist’s work through a variety of lenses\, including gender\, race\, and socio-economic dynamics. \n\n\n\nA Head Full of Planets explores the context in which Santos Reinbolt’s artistic practice crystallized in the early 1950s\, after she became a live-in cook for the architect Lota de Macedo Soares and her partner\, the American poet Elizabeth Bishop\, at their home in Petrópolis\, a mountain getaway favored by Brazilian high society. It was not until the mid-1960s\, while working in another household\, that she began to dedicate herself to embroidery and would begin creating many of the works for which she is best known today. \n\n\n\nClick here to read more about the exhibition and this mysterious yet extraordinary artist\, as well as a recent artnet article about the exhibition and Dr. Rousseau’s curatorial process. \n\n\n\nThe American Folk Art Museum is fully accessible. Gallery stools and wheelchairs are available upon request\, and an access ramp is available to enter the upper gallery if needed. If you require additional accommodations\, please email us at programs@arttable.org. \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nMember Guests – $20\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:New York\, NY | ArtTable’s Art Law Series: Building and Managing a Fine Art Collection
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the third installment of ArtTable’s Art Law Series\, produced in partnership with Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP. In this conversation\, we will explore the various roles and responsibilities that are involved when building and managing an art collection. Coinciding with the Spring art fair season in New York\, a city whose contemporary art scene is constantly evolving\, this panel will focus on the professionals who help collectors navigate the collection- building and management process. What resources are available to guide collectors when purchasing artworks? How should a collector care for the art once it is in their collection? What are the responsibilities when owning fine art that new collectors might not be aware of? We will hear from several arts professionals involved at the different stages of collection-building\, from the initial purchase to long-time care and conservation. \n\n\n\nThis conversation will build on topics explored in the first two conversations in this series: Responsible Transacting in the Art Market (held at Patterson Belknap’s New York office in April 2024) and From Purchase to Patronage: Stewarding Your Growing Collection (hosted at Untitled Art Miami Beach in December 2024\, with additional support from Private Client Select and SRI Fine Art Services). SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Curator-Led Tour of "Anonymous Was a Woman: The First 25 Years" at NYU's Grey Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for a curator-led tour of Anonymous Was A Woman: The First 25 Years at the Grey Art Museum at New York University\, led by exhibition co-curators Nancy Princenthal and Dr. Vesela Sretenović. \n\n\n\nIn 1996\, artist and philanthropist Susan Unterberg founded the Anonymous Was A Woman (AWAW) award\, making a simple\, yet radical commitment to redress the lack of institutional support for women visual artists over the age of 40. She sought to provide mid-career artists with the means to procure workspace\, art supplies\, childcare\, or whatever else they needed to further their artistic careers. For the past two and a half decades\, AWAW has provided unrestricted grants of $25\,000 to ten or more artists each year. \n\n\n\nShowcasing some 50 artworks by 41 of the 251 award recipients from AWAW’s first 25 years (1996 through 2020)\, this exhibition explores several themes surrounding anonymity and\, ultimately\, celebrates the transformative impact women artists have made on contemporary art since the award’s founding. With each year represented by at least one artist\, the exhibition includes works created within a few years of their grant\, demonstrating the significance of the award to the artist’s growth. The range of artists featured in the exhibition demonstrates the demographic and aesthetic diversity of past awardees. All 251 artists are represented in a publication accompanying the exhibition\, which also includes critical essays about the awardees by Princenthal\, Sretenović\, and other women scholars. \n\n\n\nClick here to read more about the landmark exhibition. \n\n\n\n\n\nVisitor Notes: \n\n\n\n\nThe Grey is fully walker- and wheelchair-accessible\, and several portable stools are available to borrow for use within the galleries upon request.\n\n\n\nPlease note that large bags and backpacks must be checked in a secure locker\, and food & drink (including water bottles) are not permitted. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\n\n\nAll registrants for this event will be provided with a 20% discount on ArtTable’s limited edition scarf celebrating 25 Years of Anonymous Was a Woman\, created in 2021 in conjunction with ArtTable’s 45 year anniversary and the year Susan Unterberg received the Distinguished Service to the Visual Arts Award. Made of 100% silk habotai\, only a handful of scarves remain in our inventory! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNot a member?
