DESCRIPTION:Join us for a day of art\, food\, and wine in the unparalleled landscape of the Headlands! The day begins with a welcome from Headlands’ Executive Director\, Mari Robles\, followed by visits to the studios of Torreya Cummings and Shara Mays. At 1pm\, continue the conversation over lunch\, prepared by Headlands’ chef Damon Little and enjoyed al fresco in The Commons! \n\n\n\nAdmission: \n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $35Member Guests/Non-Members – $50\n\n\n\nYour purchase includes access to the event\, artist studios\, and lunch. \n\n\n\nPlease note that registration for this program will close on Tuesday\, May 16 at 11:59pm PST. \n\n\n\nNot a member? Please find directions here to reach Headlands Center for the Arts by car\, bicycle\, bus or ferry. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtTable is a 501.c.3 organization and all programs are non-refundable.Click here to read our full cancellation policy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speakers\n\n\n\nTorreya Cummings is a project-based visual artist working with ideas of space\, place\, and time\, particularly around unlearning dominant narratives of the American west. Their methods include photography\, sculpture\, installation\, performance and video with a particular emphasis on making spaces for action. Cummings uses drag aesthetics\, substitutions\, hardware store materials\, the unsettling relationship of history and fiction\, landscape\, research\, ambivalence\, theater tricks\, bad illusions\, props\, sets\, and interpretive sites. They have exhibited solo projects at the Oakland Museum of California\, Aggregate Space Gallery\, and more\, and have presented performances with Machine Project\, Southern Exposure\, and the McEvoy Foundation for the Arts\, among others. Cummings received an MFA in sculpture from California College of the Arts and lives and works in Emeryville\, CA. \n\n\n\nShara Mays (she\,her) is a visual artist whose practice is deeply rooted in painting\, using the medium to explore the fluidity of memory and the transcendence of self through the language of abstraction and landscape. Born in Tarboro\, North Carolina\, Shara currently lives in Oakland\, California. She received her BFA degree from The Corcoran College of Art and Design at George Washington University. She received her MFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums such as the de Young Museum of San Francisco\, Root Division in San Francisco\, the Diego Rivera Gallery at the San Francisco Art Institute\, and recently at Round Weather Gallery in Oakland\, California. She has\, in the past\, been awarded a residency at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson\, Vermont\, and is a current Affiliate Artist at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito\, California. Her work is included in both public and private collections.
