Prior to joining Hindman\, her career spanned two decades at Christie’s Auction House\, including seventeen years in the New York office serving as Vice President\, Senior Specialist and Department Head for Antiquities. Following her move to Chicago\, Ms. Morse Limmer served as Vice President\, Business Development for Christie’s Midwest Regional Office. Most recently\, Ms. Morse Limmer spent close to five years owning and operating 2050 Art Services\, a premiere art and antiquities appraisals and advisory consultancy firm. Ms. Morse Limmer holds an M.A. in Greek and Roman art from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London and a B.A. in Classics and Art History from Brown University. In 2008\, Ahlberg Yohe received her PhD from the University of New Mexico; her dissertation was a focus on the social life of weaving in contemporary Navajo life. Along with Teri Greeves\, Ahlberg Yohe is the co-curator of Hearts of Our People: Native Women Artists. At MIA\, Ahlberg Yohe seeks new initiatives to expand understanding and new curatorial practices of historical and contemporary Native art. \n  \nChristina E. Burke is Curator of Native American Art at Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa\, OK. Her work focuses on collaborative projects with Native artists\, from collections research to exhibition and program development. She is interested in how Indigenous people record and present stories through visual\, literary\, and performing arts. She’s served on several boards including the Native American Art Studies Association (NAASA) and the Advisory Board for  Hearts of Our People: Native Women Artists. \n  \nTeri Greeves (Kiowa) is a contemporary beadwork artist\, recognized for pictorial narrative works. Alternatively\, you will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click a join link.\nFor further instruction on how to use Zoom\, see here.\n\n\nAbout Julia Kwon \nJulia Kwon sews interpretative bojagi—Korean object-wrapping cloths historically created since the early Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910)—to comment on the objectification of Asiatic female bodies and examine the complexities of constructing identity within the context of globalism\, cultural hybridity\, and intersectionality. She earned her M.F.A. at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University and B.A. in Studio Art at Georgetown University. She was also a participant at the Chautauqua School of Art residency program. Her work has been exhibited nationally including art galleries such as Hartnett Gallery of the University of Rochester and Torpedo Factory Art Center. Her work has been featured and reviewed internationally including in television programs such as PBS’s WETA Arts series that showcases the creative arts scene in the Greater Washington DC area as well as one of the major Korean national television networks SBS’s international news. Kwon won awards such as the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University’s Traveling Fellowship as well as the artist residencies at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity\, Vermont Studio Center\, NARS Foundation\, Montgomery College\, and Textile Arts Center. She presented artist lectures and workshops at Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden\, The Phillips Collection\, Georgetown University\, Lehigh University\, University of Rochester\, Emerson College\, Montgomery College\, among others.\n \nThis program is generously supported by the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. The Pollock-Krasner Foundation has been a leader in providing grants enabling emerging and established artists to focus on their work. She is the dean of students and lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts (Department of Visual Culture and the Artistic Research) in Warsaw and Warsaw University. She is also a lecturer at Collegium Civitas in Warsaw. For many years she conducted research on Polish art of the 1970s\, particularly advocating performance and video art. In 2010 she established the non-profit organization Arton Foundation. Its main activity is the elaboration of private archives of artists. Kuźmicz is the author and editor of many books\, such as “The Workshop of The Film Form” (2016\, co-edited with Łukasz Ronduda\, published by Sternberg Press) and “History of Performance in Poland” and many monographs of Polish artists (like Zdzisław Jurkiewicz\, Ludmiła Popiel and many others) based on her research in private archives. She has curated many exhibitions in Poland and abroad\, most recently: “Her Own Way – Female Artists and the Moving Image in Art in Poland”\, Tokyo Photographic Art Museum and the monographic exhibition of Barbara Kozłowska “You Can See It All Anywhere” (2020\, Muzeum of Contemporary Art\, Wrocław). She is also the curator of the film festival “Arton Review”\, devoted to the forgotten forerunners of Polish avant-garde film and video. The 2017 edition took place in Whitechapel Gallery in London and in 2020\, the film festival was part of the Oberhausen Shortfilm Festival. Kuźmicz was the coordinator of an international art project “Forgotten Heritage – European Avant-Garde Art Online” dedicated to the re-discovering marginalized avant-garde artists from Poland\, Croatia\, Belgium and Estonia. In 2017 she also established Edward Hartwig Foundation\, the organization devoted to the developing and dissemination of legacy and art on Edward Hartwig\, the key Polish photographer. Currently she is the main coordinator and the curator of the project “Not Yet Written Stories: Women Artists Archives On-line”\, supported by Creative Europe\, in collaboration with the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Arts in Riga and the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Ljubljana. \n\nImage: Marika Kuźmicz \nAre you interested in participating in an AT Connect program? Before joining The Morgan in 2016\, she was Assistant Curator of Painting and Sculpture at SFMOMA\, where she helped organize the retrospective Bruce Conner: It’s All True. She also curated the museum’s inaugural galleries of California art. Since arriving at The Morgan\, she has curated By Any Means: Contemporary Drawings from The Morgan (2019) and Drawing the Curtain: Maurice Sendak’s Designs for Opera and Ballet (2019). She has published essays on Bruce Conner\, Richard Diebenkorn\, Paul McCarthy\, Allen Ruppersberg\, and Andy Warhol\, among others. Rachel holds a PhD in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts\, New York University. \n \nAs Senior Curator of Modern Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art\, Carol S. Eliel is involved with exhibitions and acquisitions of historical and living artists. Current and upcoming projects include Betye Saar: Call and Response (at LACMA earlier this year\, on view now at The Morgan and traveling through 2021)\, which looks at the arc of Saar’s career through the lens of her sketchbooks; and Light\, Space\, Surface: Southern California Art from LACMA’s Collection (2021-22\, traveling)\, both with publications. The Saar catalogue received the 2020 Publication Award for Excellence by the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC). She previously co-organized Moholy-Nagy: Future Present (2016-17) with the Guggenheim and the Art Institute of Chicago. Carol has recently spearheaded acquisitions by Betye Saar\, Fred Eversley\, Maren Hassinger\, Mildred Howard\, Lari Pittman\, Alison Saar\, and others. She conceived and produced the core twenty of LACMA’s Artists on Art series of short\, web-based videos featuring artists speaking about a specific work in LACMA’s encyclopedic collections. She started at LACMA as a curatorial assistant\, having received her BA from Yale and her MA and PhD from the Institute of Fine Arts\, NYU. In 1999 Carol was named a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) by the French government. She is an associate of the W.E.B. Du Bois Research Institute at the Hutchins Center at Harvard University. She was recently a guest curator of The Phillips Collection exhibit\, “Riffs and Relations: African American Artists and the European Modernist Tradition.” The exhibit presents the works of 20th to 21st century African American artists alongside the examples of 20th-century art that inspired those American artists. Childs was also a curator at the David C. Driskell Center at the University of Maryland. \nLaura Roulet is an independent curator and writer in the DC metropolitan area and specializes in contemporary and Latin American art. She has organized exhibitions in Mexico\, Puerto Rico and the U.S. including at the OAS Art Museum of the Americas\, the American University Museum\, the Mexican Cultural Institute\, Hillyer Art Space\, WPA\, Arlington Arts Center\, and the DC Art Center. Roulet is a frequent contributor to Sculpture magazine. Her other publications include many catalog essays\, encyclopedia entries\, articles in American Art\, Art Journal and Art Nexus. In the fall of 2020\, Brentwood Arts Exchange exhibited her most recent exhibition\, “Mothering in a World Turned Upside Down.” The exhibit focused on visual embodiments of motherhood during a time of social\, physical\, and economic uncertainty. \nSarah Tanguy is a Washington\, DC-based independent curator and arts writer. From 2004-2019\, Tanguy was also a curator for Art in Embassies\, U.S. Department of State\, where she curated over 100 exhibitions and 12 permanent collections for U.S. diplomatic facilities overseas. She has also worked at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden\, the National Gallery\, The Tremaine Collection\, the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service\, and The Hechinger Collection. During her decade-long stay in New York\, she earned her B.A. and M.A. in Art History at Hunter College and held positions in various institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). In Israel\, she worked as a curator at the Haifa Museum of Art and has organized public programs and curated numerous exhibitions in leading museums and various cultural venues. \nRotem is the co-founder and co-director of REACTIK\, an International Erasmus+ Jean-Monnet Network\, researching EU Cultural Diplomacy and Policy. Rotem served on the International Council of the renowned television series Art21\, the Israeli Lottery Committee for the Arts\, the International Exposure dance festival\, and DocAviv film festival. \nAbout Artis \nArtis is an independent nonprofit organization that supports contemporary artists from Israel whose work addresses aesthetic\, social and political questions to inspire reflection and debate. Artis was founded in 2004 by philanthropist Rivka Saker with the goal of amplifying international recognition of artists from Israel. Starting off as a series of public events timed with New York’s Armory Show\, the organization’s scope expanded to include programs that invest in artists and cultural exchange. Her subjects\, largely drawn from her lifelong practice of self portraiture\, inhabit a dreamlike\, all-female world. Schahbaz initially trained in Indo-Persian miniature painting at Lahore’s National College of Arts\, and later earned a Master’s in Painting from Pratt Institute in New York. Her work addresses issues of personal freedom\, destruction\, sexuality and censorship by unveiling the beauty\, fragility and strength of the female form. \nHer solo shows include Dreaming (De Buck Gallery 2020)\, In Solitude (De Buck Gallery\, 2020)\, The Garden (Spring/Break Art Show\, 2018)\, Hiba Schahbaz: Self-Portraits (Project for Empty Space\, 2017)\, Hanged With Roses (Thierry Goldberg Gallery\, 2015)\, and In Memory (Noire Gallery\, 2012). Schahbaz has participated in numerous group exhibitions\, including a recent show curated by Jasmine Wahi in Tokyo\, “all the women. in me. are tired.”\, at THE CLUB\, as well as exhibitions at NiU Museum of Art\, The Untitled Space\, and Center for Book Arts; and has shown at art fairs such as Pulse Art Fair\, Untitled Art Fair\, Art Fair Cologne\, and Vienna Fair. \nPublications like Vice\, Hyperallergic\, The Huffington Post\, Coveteur\, Vogue\, NY Magazine\, Art Critical\, ArtForum\, Bomb Mag\, Paper\, and others have written about Hiba’s work. Schahbaz has curated painting exhibitions in Pakistan and India\, and she was an artist-in-residence at Mass MoCA\, The Wassaic Project\, Vermont Studio Center\, and the Alfred Z. Solomon Residency at the Tang Museum. There she developed\, implemented\, and oversaw contemporary art programming initiatives. In previous roles\, she supported various art programs and worked with some of the most celebrated artworks by supporting the corporate contemporary art collection at UBS\, the Union Bank of Switzerland\, and via her work at Blank Projects\, a contemporary art gallery in Cape Town\, South Africa. Significant milestones throughout Hazard’s career include producing more than 75 exhibitions in turn providing opportunities to more than 200 artists\, introducing the first outdoor mural project and festival in the Northern Virginia region\, and partnering with the Smithsonian American Art Museum in leading the conference\, State of Art 5/DC. \nJaynelle Hazard relocated to Washington\, DC from New York in 2017 where she earned a Master of Arts degree at Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She currently serves as the Co-Chair for the Washington\, DC Chapter of Sotheby’s Institute of Art Alumni and Chair of the Faith Flanagan Fellowship for ArtTable’s DC Chapter. \nAs the Executive Director and Curator of Tephra ICA\, Jaynelle builds a critically engaged practice by introducing methods to advance scholarship; extending reach in interdisciplinary experimentation of contemporary art and ideas; as well as engaging audiences of all backgrounds and identities. In this role\, Webb oversees the Museum’s collections\, exhibitions\, and programs of 20th century art and provides instruction for the School of Fine Arts at PAFA. Webb’s first exhibition at PAFA\, Taking Space: Contemporary Women Artists and the Politics of Scale (November 2020-September 5\, 2021) is co-curated with Jodi Throckmorton\, Curator of Contemporary Art at PAFA. Webb is also organizing a major retrospective exhibition and catalogue of the work of the African American sculptor John Rhoden (1916-2001) and stewards a collection of nearly 300 sculptures by Rhoden\, leading PAFA’s ongoing effort to place his artworks into the permanent collections of museums around the world. \nPrior to joining PAFA\, Webb was a member of the curatorial staff of the African American Museum in Philadelphia. Trillo has become known for her representation of young people enduring forced prostitution and braving the difficult conditions of mass migration along the southern USA border. \nTrillo will be collaborating with photographer and teaching artist Tony Rocco and his teen Photography Without Borders (PWB) students in Philadelphia. Photography Without Borders engages Philadelphia’s inner-city teens in photography-based learning and cultural exchanges. She is the PMA’s curator of Emma Amos: Color Odyssey\, organized by the Georgia Museum of Art. Laurel is also a PhD candidate at Northwestern University\, where she is completing a dissertation on the social position of the printer in nineteenth-century France. Laurel has held positions and fellowships at the Art Institute of Chicago\, Getty Museum\, Clark Art Institute\, and Courtauld Gallery. She received an MA at the Courtauld as well as a BA from Cornell University. \nShawnya L. Harris\, Ph.D. is the organizing curator for Emma Amos: Color Odyssey\, centering on the work of the late feminist artist Emma Amos (1937-2020). Harris is the Larry D. and Brenda A. Thompson Curator of African American and African Diasporic Art at the Georgia Museum of Art\, University of Georgia. Recently\, Harris has been a fellow at the Center for Curatorial Leadership. She earned her doctorate in art history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is also an alumna of Yale University. \nJodi Throckmorton is the curator of contemporary art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia. Before joining PAFA in fall 2014\, she was curator of modern and contemporary art at the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University in Kansas. Prior to that\, she was associate curator at the San Jose Museum of Art in California. She organized the exhibition and publications for Rina Banerjee: Make Me a Summary of the World (2018) with Lauren Dickens and Postdate: Photography and Inherited History in India (2015). Her other recent projects include Nick Cave: Rescue (2018)\, Paul Chan: Pillowsophia (2017)\,  Melt/Carve/Forge: Embodied Sculptures by Cassils (2016)\, Alyson Shotz: Plane Weave (2016)\, Bruce Conner: Somebody Else’s Prints (2014)\, Questions from the Sky: New Work by Hung Liu (2013)\, Dive Deep: Eric Fischl and the Process of Painting (2013)\, Ranu Mukherjee: Telling Fortunes (2012)\, and This Kind of Bird Flies Backward: Paintings by Joan Brown (2011). The major retrospective\, Joan Semmel: Skin in the Game is Throckmorton’s most recent exhibition and publication project. \nAbout the exhibition\nEmma Amos: A Color Odyssey | Across her prolific career as a pioneering artist\, educator\, and activist\, Emma Amos (American\, 1937–2020) created boldly colorful and innovative works that explore the intersections of race and gender in American life. This exhibition surveys her body of work from the 1950s to the 2010s for the first time\, spotlighting her inventive approach to printmaking\, painting\, and weaving as well as her signature practice of combining distinctive materials and artistic techniques. With this expertise\, she works towards the founding vision for 12G: a space as expansive and malleable as the artists it accommodates. \n\n\n\n\nAisha’s recently concluded Curatorial Residency in Penn’s Asian American Studies Program (ASAM) in spring 2023 (as part of the ASAM’s Sachs 2022 Grant)  titled “The Third Space: Unfurling Diasporic Arts of South Asia”\, consisted of a series of programs seeking to highlight Diasporic Arts of South Asia as a distinct\, expansive\, and emergent tradition within American contemporary art. This residency was not just a critical opportunity for ASAM to premier South Asian American arts in an examination of diaspora\, ethnic identity\, and immigration history\, but also a culmination of her own work highlighting these aspects in artistic productions of diasporic artists. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChristine Pfister was born in Switzerland. DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for an artist talk and exhibition tour with Chelsey Luster! Luster’s immersive solo exhibition “Finding Home” at Vox Populi Gallery tells the stories of their models’ safe spaces through mixed-media paintings\, text\, and film. Each model’s individual story informs the creation of these imaginative havens that come together to form a physical safe space. The exhibition acts as a place of healing for black and queer people and the respective communities. Luster highlights their identity and perspective through the luminescence of black skin with fluorescent undertones and the vibrance of queerness through shimmering overlays of glitter. Other materials\, such oil and acrylic paints\, fabric\, glue\, market on paper\, wood panels\, found objects\, and canvas\, come together to materialize these idyllic realms. \n“At the beginning of my practice\, I focused on self-portraiture and explored the lack of security and safety as a Queer Black woman through depictions of unsettling bathroom scenes in “The American Bathroom” series. This body of work critiqued our failed incarceration system and the unhinged violence I experienced along with others in my community through large-scale erie-colored oil paintings on wooden panels. I developed creative programming and community building with other Queer\, Women\, and Black-led organizations and community leaders through talks\, fellowships\, and residencies that allowed me to collaborate on performances and discussions on Black and Queerness with regards to self-autonomy\, community discussions\, and collage workshops that welcomed people of all artistic backgrounds to create work that explored identity. Through this work\, I shared the universal feeling of wanting to feel safe with individuals of all backgrounds. Through the relationships formed and stories I heard during the creation of “The American Bathroom” series\, I knew that our stories could not end with trauma and violence. I discovered that creating a sacred space within myself and others in my community leads to healing\, peace\, and safety. Luster’s visual art work explores the complexities of safe spaces in Queer and Black culture through mixed medium paintings and installations. Luster is a Vox Populi member and has been awarded the Mural Arts 2022 Black Artists Fellowship and the 2021 Center for Emerging Artists fellowship. Luster is the Exhibition Manager at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens and has independently curated multiple art exhibitions with art institutions in Philadelphia including IceBox Project Space\, Da Vinci Art Alliance\, William Way LGBT+ Center\, and the Center for Emerging Visual Artists. Luster holds a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the Temple University’s Tyler School of Art.

SUMMARY:Curator-Led Tour of Marie Laurencin with Cindy Kang
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable Members for an intimate look at the fall exhibition Marie Laurencin: Sapphic Paris\, the first major US exhibition dedicated to French artist Marie Laurencin (1883-1956) in over 30 years. Laurencin’s highly original painting style defied categorization\, as she moved seamlessly between the male-dominated avant-garde\, literary and artistic circles\, and the realms of fashion\, ballet\, and decorative arts. The exhibition is co-curated by Simonetta Fraquelli and Cindy Kang. Prior to joining Barnes in 2014\, Dr. Kang’s curatorial experience includes work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Frick Collection; and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Dr. Kang earned her BA in art history and French from Wellesley College and her MA and PhD from the Institute of Fine Arts\, NYU. In addition to contributing to a number of significant publications\, she has received several fellowships\, including a Predoctoral Fellowship from the Getty Research Institute (2012–2013); the Theodore Rousseau Fellowship from the Metropolitan Museum of Art (2011–2012); and the Harriet A. Shaw Fellowship from Wellesley College (2011–2012). Dr. Kang served as the organizing curator of the Barnes’s Marie Cuttoli: The Modern Thread from Miró to Man-Ray (2020)\, managing curator for Water\, Wind\, Breath: Southwest Native Art in Community (2022); Renoir: Father and Son (2018) and Berthe Morisot: Woman Impressionist (2018).

Photo: Jack Stawowczyk.\n\n\n\nCelebrate International Women’s Day with a very special curator-led tour of (Re)FOCUS: Then and Now at Moore College of Art & Design in downtown Philadelphia. With Judith K. Brodsky\, Judith E. Stein\, and Diane Burko\, three of the original Focus team\, we will explore this two-part installation.:  \n\n\n\n(Re)FOCUS: Then commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of Philadelphia Focuses on Women in the Visual Arts: FOCUS\, a citywide festival highlighting women in the arts which took place across multiple Philadelphia venues in 1974. Curated by Brodsky and Burko\, who brought the original FOCUS to life in 1974\, (Re)FOCUS: Then reunites works by the 81 artists represented in the original exhibition\, including Louise Bourgeois\, Lee Krasner\, Howardena Pindell\, Faith Ringgold\, Alma Thomas\, and Moore College graduate Alice Neel. \n\n\n\n(Re)FOCUS: Now—curated by Gabrielle Lavin Suzenski\, Director of the Galleries at Moore; Denise M. Brown\, Executive Director of the Leeway Foundation; and Isa Isioma Matisse of The Future is Us Collective—explores themes of social justice\, gender identity\, equity\, and power present in the recent work of Philadelphia-based artists\, several of whom are Moore graduates.
