DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss your chance for a studio tour with celebrated artist Helen Zughaib! Zughaib is a Washington\, DC-based painter and mixed-media artist known for her vibrant and thought-provoking work. Born in Beirut\, Lebanon\, her pop-art influenced art explores themes related to issues of cultural identity\, migration\, and social justice and is characterized by its use of bold colors\, intricate patterns\, and symbolism. \n\n\n\nZughaib’s work has been gifted to international heads of state by President Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton and appears in galleries and museums around the world. She is a multi-year recipient of DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Fellowship award. In 2023\, she was featured at the Hall of Nations at the Kennedy Center\, and was commissioned by Disney/PIXAR. Zughaib has exhibitions running concurrently at The Kay Chernush Virtual Gallery\, ArtRage\, and ArtHub609 Gallery this fall. \n\n\n\n“My work is ultimately about creating empathy. Gouache on board. 30” x 40” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Artist \n\n\n\n\nHelen Zughaib was born in Beirut\, Lebanon\, living mostly in the Middle East and Europe before coming to the United States to study art at Syracuse University\, earning her BFA from the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Her work has been widely exhibited in galleries and museums in the United States\, Europe and Lebanon. Her paintings are included in many private and public collections\, including the White House\, World Bank\, Library of Congress\, US Consulate\, Vancouver\, Canada\, American Embassy in Baghdad\, Iraq\, the Arab American National Museum in Detroit\, the Minneapolis Institute of Art\, and the Barjeel Art Foundation Collection. Her paintings are also included in the DC Art Bank Collection and she has received the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Fellowship award each year since 2015. Her work has been included in Art in Embassy State Department exhibitions abroad\, including Brunei\, Nicaragua\, Mauritius\, Iraq\, Belgium\, Lebanon\, Saudi Arabia and Sweden. Helen has served as Cultural Envoy to Palestine\, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia. The John F. Kennedy Center/REACH\, in Washington\, DC\, has selected Helen for the 2021-2024 Inaugural Social Impact Practice residency. Her paintings have been gifted to heads of state by President Obama and former Secretary of State\, Hillary Clinton.

She also represented the Getty Foundation in the LA Arts Recovery Fund\, which supports small to mid-sized arts organizations in Los Angeles. While at the Getty\, Dr. Helmreich also served as the inaugural co-chair of the Getty DEAI Council and the associate director of digital initiatives at the Getty Research Institute. Her work in higher education has included appointments as dean of the College of Fine Arts\, professor of art history at Texas Christian University\, director of the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities\, and associate professor of art history at Case Western Reserve University.

DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for an exclusive tour of the The Capital One Art Program! This 90-minute guided tour through the Capital One Center art collection offers a premium opportunity to see the in-house work and do a deep-dive into the building\, stewardship\, and purpose of a corporate art collection. The art displayed in the company’s offices across North America is composed of over 50 rotating exhibits a year and a permanent collection of over 8\,000 pieces. The heart of the program is the belief that when people are surrounded by thoughtful\, detailed\, innovative work\, they will create thoughtful\, detailed\, innovative work. Anne Fletcher\, the Art Administrator for Capital One\, explains that above all\, through the program\, “we want to create really innovative\, vibrant work spaces for our associates.” Capital One Center is the culmination of the company’s belief in the impact of the arts and a thriving\, mixed-use cultural and retail destination for the local community and the region. \n\n\n\nArtists in the collection include Alice Aycock\, Jacob Hashimoto\, Carter Hodgkin\, and Anne Patterson. \n\n\n\n\nPlease note health\, safety\, and procedural information:\n\n\n\n\nThe Art Tour will begin in the first-floor lobby of Center 3. DESCRIPTION:Come join us to tour the reopened National Museum of Women in the Arts! NMWA is the first museum in the world solely dedicated to championing women through the arts. NMWA undertook a top-to-bottom renovation from 2021 to 2023. The building’s first full renovation since 1987\, this restoration project honors the structure’s history while improving its interior spaces\, mechanical systems\, and exterior envelope. Zahra earned her doctoral degree from Washington University in St. Louis in nineteenth-century French art\, with a secondary field in modern and contemporary South Asia. Recent writing credits include contributions to major survey texts Great Women Painters (2022)\, Latin American Artists (2023)\, and Vitamin Txt: Words in Contemporary Art (2024)\, published by Phaidon Press. At NMWA\, Zahra has focused on issues of gender\, race relations\, and cross-cultural exchanges in modern and contemporary art. Curated solo and group exhibitions including Hung Liu In Print (2018)\, Ambreen Butt: Mark My Words (2019)\, Live Dangerously (2019)\, Paper Routes—Women to Watch 2020 (2020)\, Hung Liu: Making History (2023)\, and the forthcoming New Worlds—Women to Watch 2024.  \n\n\n\n\n\nVirginia (Ginny) Treanor\, Ph.D. serves as Senior Curator\, National Museum of Women in the Arts Treanor is the Senior Curator at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in Washington\, D.C. and holds a Ph.D. in seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish art\, which she earned at the University of Maryland. Treanor has held positions at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Gallery of Art\, among other institutions. During her time at NMWA\, Treanor has curated numerous contemporary exhibitions\, including four installments of NMWA’s Women to Watch exhibition series: Organic Matters (2015)\, Heavy Metal (2018)\, Paper Routes(2020)\, and New Worlds (2024).
