Krasner\, born in Brooklyn to Jewish immigrant parents from what is now Ukraine\, and Pollock\, raised in Los Angeles and the American West\, brought specific geographies and inheritances into a shared artistic context. Their early paths traced distinct strands of American modernism that would ultimately converge in the rupture known as Abstract Expressionism\, a movement that valued the translation of inner feelings into dramatic visual action. In the wake of World War II\, artists asked why art mattered and what it could be. For Pollock\, his breakthrough was the “drip” technique\, a radical mode of painting that flourished in a condensed but prolific period. DESCRIPTION:Courtesy of Library of Congress\, Prints & Photographs Division\, Office of War Information\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin ArtTable for a Curator-Led Tour of Esther Bubley: Photographing the Homefront with Sarah Leavitt at the Lillian and Albert Small Capital Jewish Museum. \n\n\n\nEsther Bubley (1921-1998)\, the daughter of Jewish immigrants\, was a documentary photographer who worked for the Office of War Information during WWII. While in the capital\, she photographed Wilson (now Jackson-Reed) High School students and followed uniformed soldiers throughout the city—to the Loew’s Theater\, Glen Echo amusement park\, and Dissin’s Jewish boarding house\, where her sister lived. Bubley’s evocative black-and-white photographs show us a bustling city welcoming thousands of new residents experiencing urban life. This exhibition pairs dramatic photography with artifacts from the Museum collection that help illustrate this glimpse into the capital city at a critical time in our nation’s history.Learn more about accessibility at the museum here. Photo by Simon Cherry.\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin ArtTable for a day trip to New Canaan Connecticut.  \n\n\n\nOur day begins with a Executive Director & Curator-Led Tour of America Abroad: Art\, Architecture\, and Diplomacy at the Onera Foundation. Presented on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the United States and FAPE’s 40th year of operations\, the exhibition offers rare public access to artworks typically seen only at US embassies—spaces not generally open to the public—and explores how art and architecture have shaped the United States’ diplomatic presence abroad from the Cold War to today. It draws from FAPE’s Site-Specific\, Print\, and Photography collections and includes maquettes of sculptures commissioned for major embassies\, as well as works by leading American artists including Carmen Herrera\, Jasper Johns\, Ellsworth Kelly\, Sol LeWitt\, Roy Lichtenstein\, Julie Mehretu\, Martin Puryear\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Ed Ruscha\, Joel Shapiro\, Frank Stella\, Carrie Mae Weems and many others. A replica of the 1823 William J. Stone engraving of the Declaration of Independence—gifted from David M. Rubenstein to FAPE in 2013\, one for each US embassy—will also be on view. A parallel section focuses on the evolution of US embassy architecture\, featuring buildings designed by leading midcentury architects such as Edward Durell Stone and Walter Gropius\, alongside more recent contributions by firms including Skidmore\, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and KieranTimberlake\, among others. \n\n\n\nIn the afternoon\, we will visit The Glass House and Galleries for a two hour tour. The tour tour includes access to 5 structures – the Glass House\, Brick House\, Painting Gallery\, Sculpture Gallery\, and Da Monsta – with a three-quarter mile walk over paths (gravel and paved) and grass. To mark the centennial of Robert Rauschenberg’s birth\, The Glass House together with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation proudly presents Tomashi Jackson and Robert Rauschenberg: The Catch One.
