SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Curator-Led Tour of "Hilma af Klint: What Stands Behind the Flowers" with Jodi Hauptman
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for a curator-led tour of Hilma af Klint: What Stands Behind Flowers at the Museum of Modern Art! The tour will be led by Jodi Hauptman\, The Richard Roth Senior Curator\, Department of Drawings and Prints at MoMA. \n\n\n\nIn the spring and summer of 1919 and 1920\, during a period of intense engagement with nature\, artist Hilma af Klint drew flowers almost every day. “I will try\,” she wrote\, “to grasp the flowers of the earth.” This exhibition focuses on a portfolio of drawings new to MoMA’s collection—jewel-toned watercolors made by a keen-eyed naturalist\, attuned to the rhythms and bounty of the blooming season. \n\n\n\nBreaking with traditional botanical art\, af Klint juxtaposed her exquisitely rendered blossoms with precisely drawn diagrams: a blooming sunflower is echoed by nested circles; a marsh marigold is accompanied by mirrored spirals; a cluster of budding branches is set against checkerboards of dots and strokes. With this profusion of forms—an expansion of the abstract language for which she is best known—af Klint visualizes “what stands behind the flowers\,” demonstrating her belief that careful observation of her surroundings reveals ineffable aspects of the human condition. \n\n\n\nAf Klint imagined her portfolio as an atlas—or in botanical terms a flora—that details the plants of Sweden\, where she lived and worked. Hers\, however\, is a flora of the spirit\, a mapping of the natural world in spiritual terms that would stand alongside any scientific resource. Putting representation and abstraction\, close looking and envisioning\, art and botany into dialogue\, af Klint’s drawings recognize the interconnectedness of all living things. “I have shown\,” she wrote\, “that there is a connection between the plant world and the world of the soul.” \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nMember Guests – $20\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission: $25\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? Join today! \n\n\n\nPlease note that ArtTable registration fees go toward administrative costs for the organization. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtTable’s programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImage courtesy of the Museum of Modern Art

SUMMARY:Philadelphia\, PA | MeetAT at Arthur Ross Gallery
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a Philadelphia MeetAT networking event on May 30\, graciously hosted by Emily Zimmerman\, Director of Exhibitions and Curatorial Affairs at Arthur Ross Gallery. Join us for an evening of light refreshments and engaging conversations with fellow ArtTable members and new connections. \n\n\n\nThe Arthur Ross Gallery has a mission is to Engage\, Educate\, and Inspire. The Arthur Ross Gallery is a resource for the entire University community\, across schools and departments\, as well as the local community and scholars around the world. Located at the heart of the University of Pennsylvania\, the Arthur Ross Gallery is an intimate exhibition space that presents thought-provoking exhibitions of art across cultures\, media and time. Curators\, scholars\, artists\, and Penn students present original research through our exhibitions\, symposia\, and curatorial seminars. Exhibition-related programs include films\, music\, performances\, spoken word\, talks\, and tours. \n\n\n\nHoused in the historic Fisher Fine Arts Library building on the main campus of one of the world’s great research universities\, the Arthur Ross Gallery serves both the University and the Philadelphia communities. The Gallery is committed to advancing the teaching and research missions of the University through integrating knowledge across disciplines\, innovation\, and providing access through local\, national\, and global engagement. \n\n\n\nThe Gallery is free and open to the public. \n\n\n\nFor this event\, Arthur Ross Gallery is pleased to present Scattered Earth\, Sounded Depth: Penn Fine Arts MFA Thesis Exhibition\, featuring the work of Eissa Attar and Alvin Luong. \n\n\n\nThrough installation\, moving image\, and printmaking\, Attar and Luong offer poetic reflections on landscapes and cultural histories. Their works explore geography as a site of cultural memory and migration while critically examining documentary practices and modes of display. \n\n\n\nEissa Attar’s practice investigates migration\, belonging\, and entropy through photography and moving image works. In Extract You Again\, a series of sand drawings on acetate layered over images of consumer products and waste\, Attar reflects on cycles of consumption and erasure in Saudi Arabia’s evolving landscape. \n\n\n\nAlvin Luong’s multichannel video installation\, Corals of Bidong\, connects the history of Malaysia’s Bidong Island—once a refugee camp following the Vietnam War—to its present-day use as a coral research facility and a dubious coral wildlife trade. Developed over two years of intensive research\, the work offers a profound meditation on human and natural migration. Through video\, sculpture\, and installation\, Luong examines narratives of survival and the enduring social and environmental impacts of historical events. \n\n\n\nCurated by Emily Zimmerman\, Director of Exhibitions at the Arthur Ross Gallery\, this exhibition marks the debut of the MFA Thesis Exhibition at the Arthur Ross Gallery. \n\n\n\nAre you considering joining ArtTable and want to know more about who we are and what we do? This is a great opportunity for potential members to get to know us! \n\n\n\nAdmission: \n\n\n\n\nFREE to ArtTable Members and their guests*\n\n\n\n\n*Each member is allowed to bring one guest with them at this time \n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:Washington\, DC | Artist Studio Visit with Lex Marie
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to present a studio visit with Lex Marie in Washington\, DC! \n\n\n\nLex will walk guests through the large-scale works she has created over the past two years at her current studio before transitioning out in July. She will share her process\, the unconventional materials she often incorporates\, and how they help tell stories about Black childhood\, motherhood\, and social justice. Her work is heavily inspired by personal experiences\, community narratives\, and the resilience of marginalized voices. \n\n\n\nVisitors can expect a behind-the-scenes look at how her sculptures and mixed media works come together\, and insight into the themes that ground her practice. She will also preview a few upcoming projects that continue to explore these narratives in new ways. \n\n\n\nLex Marie (b. 1992: Prince Georges County\, MD) is a multidisciplinary artist who creates paintings\, sculptures and installations that reflect her individual experiences yet encompasses the experiences of many in the African diaspora. Marie’s artistic practice is as an exploration of the weighty realities experienced by many African American children and children of color. Her work is a testament to the profound impact of adultification biases\, food insecurity\, and the systemic challenges entrenched in American school systems\, healthcare systems\, in the home and out in the world. Through a fusion of everyday materials\, often reclaimed and repurposed\, Marie offers a tangible manifestation of the intangible struggles faced by these young minds\, compelling viewers to confront the profound significance inherent in the seemingly ordinary. \n\n\n\nMarie holds a BA in studio art with a concentration in painting from the University of Maryland\, College Park. Marie’s most recent solo exhibition “LetThem Kids Be Kids” opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington (2022). Marie’s work has been curated into group exhibitions including REVISIT/REIMAGINE (Banneker-Douglas Museum\, 2024)\, In Tender Peaks\, Grace Unfolds (Mitochondria Gallery\, 2024)\, A Color Story (Cierra Britton Gallery\, 2024)\, and Stories From My Childhood (Northern Illinois University Art Museum\, 2022). Marie received the Washingtinton Studio Award from S&R Evermay in 2023 and currently works in Washington\, DC \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guest – $20\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $25\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:New York\, NY | After Hours Reception and Tour of "Amy Sherald: American Sublime" at the Whitney Museum
DESCRIPTION:ArtTable invites you to a special evening at the Whitney Museum of American Art! \n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an after hours reception in the Whitney’s Trustee Room\, which features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Hudson and the High Line. The reception will include wine and light bites. \n\n\n\nAfter the reception\, join us for a guided tour of Amy Sherald: American Sublime and Louise Nevelson’s Collection View. \n\n\n\nAmy Sherald is a storyteller. She creates precisely crafted narratives of American life\, selecting\, styling\, and photographing her sitters as the foundation for her nuanced paintings. Thus\, while Sherald (b. 1973; Columbus\, Georgia) bases her works on specific people\, they are more than traditional portraits. They center everyday Black Americans\, compelling in their individuality and extraordinary in their ordinariness\, inviting viewers to step into Sherald’s imagined worlds. In this exhibition\, paintings of such ordinary Americans join her iconic portraits of First Lady Michelle Obama and\, heartbreakingly\, Breonna Taylor\, to produce a resonant ode to the multiplicity and complexity of American identity.  \n\n\n\nLouis Nevelson had a long and deep relationship with the Whitney Museum\, which organized her first retrospective in 1967. Today the Museum is one of the largest repositories of her work\, with over ninety sculptures\, drawings\, and prints in the collection\, many of them gifts of the artist. The works gathered in this exhibition\, which span four decades\, offer a special opportunity to shine a light on this self-proclaimed “architect of shadows.” \n\n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Member – $35\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guest – $40\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? Join today! \n\n\n\nNow open to all members and member guests! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtTable’s programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

SUMMARY:Venice\, CA | MeetAT at L.A. Louver
DESCRIPTION:From the L.A. Louver Celebrates 50 Years exhibition from February 15 – June 14\, 2025. \n\n\n\nYou’re invited to a Venice\, CA. MeetAT networking event on June 12\, graciously hosted by Elizabeth East\, Director of L.A. Louver. Join us for an evening of light refreshments and engaging conversations with fellow ArtTable members and new connections. \n\n\n\nAbout L.A. Louver:L.A. Louver was established in 1975 with the mission to champion L.A. artists within an international program. In the fifty years that followed\, the gallery’s dynamic program has presented more than 660 exhibitions over the course of what has been the most significant period of creative growth in Southern California history. \n\n\n\nL.A. Louver Celebrates 50 YearsL.A. Louver is proud to celebrate their 50th anniversary with an exhibition surveying the gallery’s history\, from its formation in 1975 to now. They are delighted to commemorate this achievement with a presentation in all spaces of the gallery\, which remains on the same block as the original 1970s location. The exhibition is a portrait of L.A. Louver\, enriched and informed by history as much as the landscape of today. Though harkening back to key moments from the past\, the presentation offers points of nonlinear connection that elucidate the complex truth of an identity shaped by time\, place\, and people. Furthermore\, it is a tribute to the forces and memories that have shaped the gallery – the Bohemian art haven that was 1970s Venice Beach; the artists\, staff\, and community that have kept the program vibrant and dynamic; the bespoke building designed by Frederick Fisher & Partners that has held hundreds of exhibitions and events; and the artworks that have traveled the world. SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Artist Talk and Studio Visit with Francine Tint
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable on June 16th for a studio visit with Francine Tint! \n\n\n\nFrancine Tint’s practice is rooted in the exploration of color as a means of capturing and embodying light. Tint’s approach emerged within painterly abstraction\, bridging Color Field influences with the dynamic gestures of Abstract Expressionism. While grounded in this tradition\, she continually expands its boundaries\, exploring new forms of expression that challenge conventional abstract frameworks. David Ebony observes that Tint rejects rigid formalism in favor of an intuitive method\, balancing energetic movement with moments of stillness. This interplay creates what he describes as a ‘Zen feeling’—a sense of clarity and resolution within complex visual structures. Over five decades\, Tint has remained committed to discovery and reinvention. While sharing affinities with peers such as Larry Poons\, her synthesis of gesture and color distinguishes her vision. Her work is held in the permanent collections of 30 museums\, including the Neuberger Museum of Art\, the El Paso Museum of Art\, and the Chazen Museum of Art. Tint’s paintings are exhibited across the United States and Europe\, further solidifying her influence in the field of contemporary abstraction. \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guest – $20\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Artist Studio Visit with Josely Carvalho
DESCRIPTION:Josely Carvalho (b. 1942\, São Paulo\, Brazil) is an interdisciplinary artist\, poet\, and activist whose work spans printmaking\, installation\, blown glass\, public art\, and olfactory media. Informed by early memories\, including childhood memories of Paraná’s vanishing Araucaria forests\, her practice uses personal experience to explore ecological\, political\, and social themes. Josely Carvalho classifies her work as “Diaries” “Books” and “Chapters”. By approaching a broad range of materials as texts\, Carvalho unravels narrative expectations to address issues of feminism\, indigenous rights\, and shelter in her multisensory and empathetic oeuvre. \n\n\n\nCarvalho studied art and architecture in St. Louis\, Missouri\, before relocating to New York City in the 1970s\, where she became a pivotal figure in the city’s activist and Latin American artist communities. She was a leading member of Artist’s Call Against U.S. Intervention in Central America. She founded The Silk Screen Project at St. Mark’s Church in the Bowery\, amplifying marginalized voices through collective creative production. In recent years\, Carvalho has emerged as a pioneer in the field of olfactory art through her ongoing Diary of Smells series\, culminating in works like Glass Ceiling: Resilience (2018)\, at at the Museum of Contemporary Art in São Paulo\, for which she received the International Art and Olfaction Sadakichi Award in 2019. \n\n\n\nHer work has been exhibited widely across the Americas\, including exhibitions at the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes (Rio de Janeiro)\, the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles)\, the Museum of Contemporary Art (São Paulo)\, and the Brooklyn Museum’s landmark exhibition Radical Women: Latin American Art\, 1960–1985. Carvalho’s practice has been recognized with major awards from the Creative Capital Foundation\, the Rockefeller Foundation\, and the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2022\, she became the first Brazilian artist to receive the Lee Krasner Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. This distinction honors her decades-long contributions to contemporary art and social consciousness. \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guests – $20\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $25\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Curator-Led Tours of "Arresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron" & "Lisa Yuskavage: Drawings" at the Morgan Library & Museum
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to present two back to back curator-led tours at the Morgan Library & Museum! Curator Allison Pappas will lead attendees on a tour of Arresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron at 12:30pm\, followed by a short break. After the break\, Claire Gilman will lead attendees on a tour of Lisa Yuskavage: Drawings. \n\n\n\nArresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron explores the path-breaking career of photography’s first widely recognized artist. Cameron (1815–1879) was born in Calcutta (modern day Kolkata) to a French mother and an English father; in 1848\, with her husband and children\, she moved to England\, where her sisters introduced her to the elite cultural circles in which they traveled. Residing on the Isle of Wight\, where she was close neighbors with the poet Alfred Tennyson\, Cameron acquired her first camera at age 48. In only eleven years she would create thousands of exposures and leave an enduring image of the Victorian era as an age of intellectual and spiritual ambition. \n\n\n\nLisa Yuskavage: Drawings is the first comprehensive museum presentation of the artist’s drawings. Incorporating drawings from the early nineties to the present and including sketches and finished studies\, the exhibition will feature a wide range of her explorations with materials including work in graphite\, pen\, Conte\, pastel\, charcoal\, distemper\, monotype\, gouache\, watercolor\, acrylic and ink on paper. It will chart Yuskavage’s career-long inquiry into how process and material experimentation create entirely new ways to find images. From her earliest drawings of imagined figures and still lives\, through a period of investigation into what constitutes a model\, to her recent studio and landscape scenes synthesizing the real and the imagined into a new kind of fictional reality\, Yuskavage’s drawings give insight into the way we see and comprehend the world. Within the jewel-like space of the Thaw Gallery\, the exhibition provides an immersive experience\, allowing the viewer to enter the artist’s mind. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $30\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guest – $40\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $50\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:Washington\, DC | Curator-Led Tour of "Vivian Browne: My Kind of Protest" with Adrienne L. Childs
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to present a Curator-Led Tour of Vivian Browne: My Kind of Protest at the Phillips Collection with Adrienne L. Childs! \n\n\n\nDrawing upon previously unknown works and archival findings\, this exhibition recovers the depth and variety of the more than three-decade career of Vivian Browne (b. 1929\, Laurel\, FL; d. 1993\, New York\, NY). The exhibition features paintings\, prints\, and works on paper across seven bodies of work\, as well as ephemera that highlight Browne’s pioneering activism and influential teaching career. Browne was a founder of the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition\, an organization that fought for Black representation in New York museums; a founder of SoHo20\, one of the first women’s art cooperatives in Manhattan; and a professor at Rutgers University (1971–92). Her signature approach to color and form challenged the neatly defined categories of abstraction and figuration\, and art and politics\, revealing a more nuanced approach to art-making that is part of Browne’s unique contribution to 20th-century art of the US. \n\n\n\nAdrienne L. Childs is an independent scholar\, art historian\, and curator. She is Senior Consulting Curator at The Phillips Collection. Her current book is an exploration of Black figures in European decorative arts entitled Ornamental Blackness: The Black Figure in European Decorative Arts\, publshed by Yale University Press. She is currently co-curator of Vivian Browne: My Kind of Protest for The Phillips Collection. She recently co-curated The Colour of Anxiety: Race\, Sexuality and Disorder in Victorian Sculpture at The Henry Moore Institute in Leeds\, England. She was the guest curator of Riffs and Relations: African American Artists and the European Modernist Tradition at The Phillips Collection in Washington DC\, 2020. \n\n\n\nIn April 2022 The High Museum of Art awarded Childs the 2022 Driskell Prize in recognition of her contribution to African American art and art history. \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable AND Phillips Collection Members – $20 (You must be a member of both ArtTable and the Phillips to receive this price. SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Summer Party at Asya Geisberg Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Banshees\, group exhibition at Asya Geisberg Gallery\n\n\n\nThis summer in New York\, we are stepping out of the sun and into the Asya Geisberg Gallery for a Summer Party on Wednesday\, July 16\, from 5:30 PM – 7 PM. \n\n\n\nJoin us for some light refreshments\, some gorgeous art\, and lively conversations with ArtTable members and other visual arts professionals. \n\n\n\nThis networking event lines up perfectly with the Chelsea & Tribeca Gallery Walk\, happening from 6 – 8 PM. Whether you start your night with us and head out for more art afterward\, or swing by while strolling through Tribeca\, be sure to stop in to mingle with ArtTable members and fellow art lovers. \n\n\n\nMake sure to register below\, so that we know you are coming! We look forward to seeing you there! \n\n\n\nAbout Asya Geisberg GalleryAsya Geisberg Gallery opened in Chelsea in late 2010 with a mission to create a space conducive to intellectual inquiry and cultural cross-pollination\, where ideas about art\, and art about ideas\, were at the forefront. After 10+ years\, the gallery has relocated to the heart of Tribeca and joined its vibrant arts community. Our program is visually eclectic and conceptually focused\, encompassing work in all media. We represent young emerging artists as well as international artists otherwise unrepresented in the US\, many of whom work across multiple media such as ceramics\, textiles\, painting\, photography\, and sculpture\, with an interest in world history\, archaeology\, and cultural politics from a non-US perspective. Our artists have been reviewed in the New York Times\, Artforum\, The New Yorker\, The Wall Street Journal\, and international publications. The gallery has shown at art fairs including The Armory Show\, NADA NY\, UNTITLED Miami\, UNTITLED San Francisco\, ExpoChicago\, ZONAMACO\, Photofairs\, Future Fair\, and Art Los Angeles Contemporary (ALAC). Asya Geisberg Gallery is a proud member of the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) and ArtTable. \n\n\n\nAsya Geisberg Gallery is pleased to present “Banshees Remix\,” a resurrected and expanded group exhibition of eighteen women sculptors whose work uses traditionally femme signifiers to subvert gendered narratives and traditions through a manipulation of scale\, material\, and surface. The banshee is a female spirit in Irish folklore who heralds the death of a family member\, usually by screaming\, wailing\, or shrieking. The cry of the spirit is mournful beyond all other sounds on earth\, in the silence of the night. Here\, the Banshee is re-embodied as contemporary cries of protest and refusal\, and the notion of “good girl” / “bad girl.” With concrete\, neon\, steel\, ceramic\, wood\, glass\, and leather – distinctive material choices and juxtapositions – a disregard for rules of the game unfolds. The Banshees negotiate tensions through dream theory\, mythology\, and history. The works’ physical presence and symbolic power both reveal and distort perception. \n\n\n\nAre you considering joining ArtTable and want to know more about who we are and what we do?
