Stick around afterwards for a Gilded Age cocktail demo and tasting! \n\n\n\nThe exhibition marks the latest iteration of the Museum’s newest initiative: A Tale of Today. It features work by leading contemporary artists to expand the immersive experience and to shape our understanding of the world through the art\, architecture\, design\, and cultural history of the Nickerson Mansion\, the Museum’s home. Curated by Stephanie Cristello\, Theodora Allen: Saturnine derives its title from figure of Saturn and its historical association with melancholy\, often referred to as the curse of artists. Visitors to the Museum will see Allen’s luminous and meditative compositions. She served as a business development liaison to the investment banking\, commercial lending\, and private client services divisions of UBS Financial Services\, CIBC Oppenheimer\, Alex. Brown & Sons\, and LaSalle Bank. At the Driehaus Museum she led the retail development strategy and started the first External Affairs department before serving in her current role as the Museum’s Executive Director in 2020. \nA lifelong Chicagoan\, Musci has demonstrated a commitment to serving her community. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Chicago\, where she has held numerous advisory\, committee chair\, and board positions; member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals; member of the The Magnificent Mile Association; member of Women Investment Professionals; past Committee Chair for Chicago’s Old Town Art Fair; past director and treasurer of Famous Door Theatre Company; past tutor and advisory board member of Chicago Lights; and Recording for the Blind volunteer. Musci holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame\, Indiana and Rome\, Italy. \nAbout Stephanie Cristello\nStephanie Cristello (b. 1991) is a contemporary art critic\, curator\, and author based in Chicago\, IL. Her work focuses on artists who critically engage with the image and its role in visual culture. Cristello was previously the Senior Editor US for ArtSlant (2012–2018). She is also the founding Editor-in-Chief of THE SEEN\, Chicago’s International Journal of Contemporary & Modern Art. Her writing has been published in ArtReview\, BOMB Magazine\, Elephant Magazine\, Frieze Magazine\, Mousse Magazine\, OSMOS\, and Portable Gray\, published by the University of Chicago Press. She graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2013 with a Liberal Arts Thesis in the Visual Critical Studies Department. She served as the Artistic Director of EXPO CHICAGO (2013–2020) and is currently the Director / Curator at Chicago Manual Style. In 2020–21 she was a Guest Curator at Kunsthal Aarhus (Denmark) and the Malmö Art Museum (Sweden)\, as well as a Curatorial Advisor to the 2020 Busan Biennale (South Korea). SUMMARY:Miami | A Day at the Deering
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a visit to Miami’s Deering Estate\, a historical landmark preserving the 1920s era estate of Charles Deering\, Chicago industrialist\, early preservationist\, environmentalist\, art collector\, philanthropist and first chairman of the International Harvester Company. Nestled along the coast in South Dade\, the Deering Estate is a cultural asset and historic site listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  \n\n\n\nCharles Deering died in 1927\, but the Estate remained with his heirs until 1986 when it was purchased by the State of Florida\, and added to the National Registry of Historic Places. Most of Charles Deering’s original collection was donated to the Art Institute of Chicago and the Libraries at Northwestern by his daughters. Some items have been brought back to the site through the generosity of members of the Deering Family and can be seen in the homes today. Other antique objects\, representative of the style and era of the original contents are used for interpretation throughout the homes. \n\n\n\nProgram Itinerary \n\n\n\n11:00 AM – Welcome! Melissa is an Art Historian with a focus in Post-war Italian art\, and contemporary art theory and practices. At the Deering Estate she oversees the historic house museums\, coordinates and curates exhibitions\, programing and directs the Estate’s multi-tiered Artist in Residence Program including visual\, performing and literary arts. \nPrior to the Deering Estate\, she held positions in several museums and galleries throughout South Florida including the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami\, David Castillo Gallery\, and Miami Art Museum (now Pérez Art Museum Miami). She also manages and oversees studio operations for Leonardo Drew. She has taught courses in art history and museum studies for Miami Dade College\, Florida International University and New World School of the Arts. \nAs an independent curator\, Diaz has organized several contemporary art exhibitions in South Florida and New York. She received a Master of Arts in Art History from University of South Florida and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami. Melissa was first recipient of the Liesbeth Bollen Award from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice\, Italy. \nBecky Franco was born in Havana\, Cuba. She escaped Cuba with her family in 1961. She completed in the United States a BFA with Honors from Pratt Institute\, New York in 1974. Becky has always been interested in painting on a large scale influenced by the Photo Realist movement of the seventies. Upon graduating\, she sought employment in the difficult and male dominated field of outdoor advertising\, where she got the opportunity to create large hand painted billboards and had the distinction to prove herself as a competent female artist. She became the first female billboard artist to be hired in the outdoor industry and join The Sign & Pictorial Display Union\, Local #230 in the U.S. \nShe painted large billboards for fifteen years and when digital computer imaging threatened the outdoor advertising industry making it extinct\, she shifted her focus by becoming an independent art professional gaining many private Painting and Mural commissions. Her paintings were featured in many publications including Newspapers and a Rizzoli book called Tromp L’Oeil At Home by Karen Chambers. Becky has always remained interested in the expansion and refinement of her skills. To that end\, after many years as an independent art professional\, in 2008 she returned to academia to attain an MFA from Queens College\, New York. In 2011 Becky was awarded the Artist Residency Express + Local: NYC Aesthetics at The Queens College Art Center\, Rosenthal Library\, Flushing\, New York. Becky’s paintings have been exhibited in a number of group shows\, a two woman exhibition\, and most recently at The Islip Art Museum exhibition about Caribbean artists called LA PLACITA where the New York Times interviewed her about her work. In 2013 Becky had her second solo exhibition CHOSEN at Soho20Chelsea gallery\, New York. Most recently El Museo Del Barrio included two of her paintings in LA BIENAL 2013\, Here Is Where We Jump. \nIn 2014 Becky was a Cintas Fellowship Finalist – Museum of Art + Design in Miami. Becky in 2015 exhibits in the group show\, LAST EXIT: PAINTING in The Audrey Love Gallery at The Bakehouse\, Miami. In 2020 Franco was awarded an Artist Residency at The Deering Estate. Franco now teaches Oil painting at Miami Dade College and continues pursuing her career as a professional artist.

SUMMARY:Virtual | Landmarks: A Discussion on Public Art\, with Sarah Oppenheimer & Andrée Bober
DESCRIPTION:2pm PT / 3pm MT / 4pm CT / 5pm ET\n\n\n\nPlease join us for a virtual conversation between artist Sarah Oppenheimer and Andrée Bober\, founding director and curator of Landmarks\, the public art program of The University of Texas at Austin. The discussion will offer an inside look at C-010106\, Oppenheimer’s recent commission for the university’s College of Engineering. Oppenheimer and Bober will introduce the work and share insights on developing a major outdoor public art project within a unique and complex architectural setting. \n\n\n\nC-010106 consists of two structures positioned at opposite ends of a new pedestrian footbridge on the Texas Engineering campus. Each structure features four panes of glass⎯ two reflective\, diagonal sheets sandwiched between two vertical sheets. At the intersection of the four panes\, the glass passes through an incision in the bridge’s surface\, enabling pedestrians on top of the bridge to see the reflections of those underneath\, and vice versa.  \n\n\n\nOppenheimer pushes the boundaries between sculpture and architecture\, questioning the limits of both mediums. The artist shifts our frame of spatial reference\, displacing our experience of inside and out\, and inverting our sense of what is near and far. In doing so\, Oppenheimer heightens our awareness of the shared environment and creates unexpected opportunities for social exchange. \n\n\n\nC-010106 is Oppenheimer’s first entirely outdoor public work and is among the artist’s largest works to date. Sited on the Peyton Yates Family footbridge connecting the Engineering Education and Research Center (EERC) to the new Gary L. Building upon a long term loan with the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, she has commissioned major works by artists such as Ann Hamilton\, José Parlá\, Nancy Rubins\, Jennifer Steinkamp\, and James Turrell. Bober also created Landmarks Video in 2010\, an ongoing series of video art. She previously led the Contemporary Arts Center Cincinnati through the successful completion of its Zaha Hadid designed facility\, both as deputy and then acting director. Bober studied art history and museology at The University of Texas at Austin\, practiced painting conservation in Vienna\, Austria\, and earned a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from Columbia University in New York. Her recent publications include The Collections: The University of Texas at Austin (2016) and Landmarks (2018). She lives with her family in Chevy Chase\, Maryland. \n\n\n\nAbout Sarah Oppenheimer\n\n\n\nSarah Oppenheimer (b. 1972\, Austin\, Texas) has lived and worked in New York City since earning a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University in 1995 and a Master of Fine Arts from Yale University in 1999. Oppenheimer’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Kunstmuseum Thun\, Switzerland (2020); MASS MoCA\, North Adams\,Massachusetts (2019); the Wexner Center for the Arts\, Ohio State University\, Columbus\,Ohio (2017); the Pérez Art Museum Miami\, Florida (2016); MUDAM: Musée d’ArtModerne Grand-Duc Jean\, Luxembourg (2016); and Kunsthaus Baselland\, Muttenz\,Switzerland (2014). The artist is a recipient of the Rome Prize Fellowship (2011–12)\, Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Fellowship (2009)\, and Guggenheim FoundationFellowship (2007). SUMMARY:New York | Annual Leadership Series - Latinx and Latin American Identity and Representation in the Visual Arts
DESCRIPTION:ArtTable is pleased to present the 2022 Annual Leadership Series\, focusing on Latinx & Latin American Identity & Representation in the Visual Arts.  \n\n\n\nThe 2022 Armory Show’s fair-wide focus on Latinx and Latin American Art is the culmination of decades-long efforts of critical forerunners in the field\, chief amongst them the incredible visionaries on this panel. Latinx representation in the arts is not simply “having a moment;” Latinx and Latin American artists and arts professionals have and continue to contribute to the development of the culture and history of the United States. Through establishing curators of Latin American/Latinx Art at key cultural institutions and sharing their collections or the curation of exhibitions in these public spaces\, passionate innovators\, such as Estrellita Brodsky and Patricia Phelps de Cisneros\, assisted these visionaries in staying the course to ensure today’s transnational understanding and authentic engagement with the art produced by those who hail from the non-Anglophone nations of the Western hemisphere\, as well as those who have joined the U.S. population from these countries. She has also been instrumental in bringing such previously under recognized women artists to the auction market as Zilia Sánchez and Olga Albizu. Prior to joining Christie’s in 2011\, Marysol was an independent curator and art advisor working with institutional\, corporate\, and private clients. Additionally\, she has held various positions in the museum and for-profit art sectors\, including Vice President and Specialist\, Latin American Art\, Sotheby’s\, New York; Senior Curator and Curator of Contemporary Art\, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico\, San Juan; Director of Visual Arts\, Americas Society\, New York; and Senior Curator\, The Bronx Museum of the Arts\, New York. \nGabriela Palmieri is the Founder and Principal of Palmieri Fine Art\, Inc.\, a bespoke full-service Art firm based in New York City. Prior to establishing PFA\, Inc.\, in 2016\, Ms. Palmieri led a distinguished 17-year career at Sotheby’s\, where she rose to Chairman of Contemporary Art\, Americas\, and was recognized as one of the most respected in the auction industry as a leading specialist in Post-War Art. \nMs. Palmieri founded PFA\, Inc. in order to unequivocally provide her clients with unbiased\, objective and transparent counsel in the increasingly complex and nuanced art market. In her independent role she is committed to providing impartial advice and counsel for established and new collectors aimed at making informed acquisitions\, which requires careful analysis and due diligence. As a seasoned researcher and scholar\, Gabriela brings to bear all the relevant factors about the artist\, the market trajectory for the artist’s work\, the particular work taken in the context of the artist’s career\, provenance\, condition\, literature and comparative uniqueness. \nIn the evolving art market\, Ms. Palmieri recognizes that client advocacy is as important as advisory\, a role that she spearheaded during her tenure at Sotheby’s where she was the client advocate on every transaction. Among the many highlights during her tenure at Sotheby’s included heading Sotheby’s May 2008 Day Sale to realize $107\,800\,000\, a record total for a Day Sale at any auction house at the time\, which followed a $102\,800\,000 performance from November 2007. As the Head of the Evening Sale\, she curated the bespoke Allan Stone Collection\, which fetched $55\,000\,000 in 2011. This role culminated in her stewardship of the prestigious Ahead of the Curve: The Sender Collection sale in May 2014 at Sotheby’s\, which sold in excess of $86\,000\,000. \nThis unparalleled auction house experience uniquely positions Ms. Palmieri to assess the market and deliver the most comprehensive secondary market expertise both on the buying and selling side of the transaction. Still very much part of the auction world\, in her present capacity\, she advised every aspect of the prestigious Visionaries: Works from the Collection of Emily and Jerry Spiegel\, which sold at Christie’s in May 2017 for $128\,000\,000. In November 2017\, she counseled Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel and Ambassador Carl Spielvogel’s Collection: Magnificent Gestures\, which sold at Sotheby’s in November 2017 for $54\,700\,000\, with all proceeds benefitting a Not-For-Profit Charitable Foundation that will supports science and medicine\, educational reform and cultural projects. \nMore recently\, Ms. Palmieri advised Image World\, a private Collection featuring seminal examples from the Pictures Generation of artists\, as well as more contemporary works. Carrying a pre-sale estimate of $36\,000\,000-52\,000\,000\, the Collection made its debut at auction as the highlight of Christie’s 21st Century Evening Sale in November 2021\, with further sales continuing into Spring 2022. \nIn 2021 Ms. Palmieri also advised on all aspects of bringing the prestigious Brillembourg-Caprilles Collection to market at Sotheby’s. The museum-quality Collection was assembled over forty years of connoisseurship and passion\, and it is distinguished for its depth of iconic works by contemporary Latin American masters. With an overall pre-sale estimate of approximately $13\,000\,000-18\,000\,000\, the Collection first hit the auction block at Sotheby’s Modern Art Marquee Sale in November 2021\, followed by subsequent sales into Fall 2022. \nIn 2018\, Ms. Palmieri joined the Board of Trustees of Anderson Ranch Arts Center\, based in Aspen/Snowmass\, a premier art making destination and catalyst for critical dialogue in the contemporary art world. In 2019\, she joined the Board of Directors of El Museo del Barrio\, New York’s leading Latin American cultural institution\, with an emphasis on works from Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rican community in the city. \nPrior to joining Sotheby’s\, Ms. Palmieri received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History cum laude at Boston College in 1997\, and she achieved her Master of Arts and advanced to PhD standing at the University of Chicago. \nMs. Palmieri is a Certified Member\, AAA\, Appraisers Association of America\, and since 2012 she has executed numerous appraisals in compliance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP)\, the only set of appraisal standards promulgated by The Appraisal Foundation and approved by the Internal Revenue Service. \nSince 2021\, E. Carmen Ramos is chief curatorial and conservation officer at The National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. There she leads the curatorial and conservation teams as they serve the nation and beyond through collections development\, ground-breaking scholarship and exhibitions\, and art conservation. Ramos most recently served as acting chief curator and curator of Latinx art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum\, where she built one of the largest collections of Latinx art at a museum of U.S. art. She organized award-winning exhibitions at SAAM including ¡Printing the Revolution!\, Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art\, and Down These Mean Streets: Community and Place in Urban Photography. Before prior to the Smithsonian\, she was a curator at the Newark Museum and worked on early DEAI initiatives at The Brooklyn Museum. In 2012\, she founded the Portland Museum of Modern Art\, and institutional critique project aimed to instigate dialogue around self organizing and community driven programs in the arts. With an emphasis on accessibility and engagement\, Werbel produces site-based programs using community as her medium. Her investigation in space-making has included alternative exhibitions models in Barcelona\, San Francisco\, New York City\, Joshua Tree and Santa Fe. Most recently Werbel has fulfilled a two year position as Visiting Artistic Director at Portland Art Museum\, where she created five exhibitions with an emphasis on re-evaluating the role of the museum titled We.Construct.Marvels.Between.Monuments. Werbel holds the position of Director at the lumber room\, the collection house and exhibition space for the prestigious Miller Meigs Collection. She has sat on various granting panels\, selection juries and committees for the Regional Arts and Culture Council\, Oregon Arts Commission\, Ford Family Foundation\, PICA\, Pacific Northwest College of Art\, Disjecta\, and National Visual Artist Network and teaches Exhibition Strategies for the MFA studio art program at Portland State University. How have they changed? \n\n\n\nOne of the biggest challenges for women in the workforce is a work-life balance since child care\, elder care\, and other family responsibilities still weigh more heavily on women. What are 3 things that would help change this burden and enhance this balance? \n\n\n\nWhat are the ways in which women can help other women while also enhancing their own leadership roles? How have you already incorporated these into your practice? \n\n\n\nThese are the prompt questions that ArtTable provided to several of our current members who currently hold or have held leadership positions within the art world. Presented in partnership with the CAA (College Art Association) 50th Anniversary Celebration of Feminism + Art\, ArtTable is pleased to present the first program in the new The AT Forum Series: Women in Leadership\, a Pecha Kucha-style program welcoming leading women in the arts to provide their insight and expertise on leadership\, equity\, and intersectional feminism. \n\n\n\nThe prompt questions that were provided to the speakers could easily be answered in hours-long conversations or lengthy essays. In this Pecha Kucha-style program\, our speakers have been provided with just 3 minutes each to respond to one of the prompt questions. After hearing from some of the speakers\, all attendees will go into breakout rooms for a group discussion\, after which the others speakers will address a different prompt question. \n\n\n\nThe AT Forum is a new recurring program series in which ArtTable members are invited to speak to a specific topic in a Pecha Kucha-style format\, followed by breakout room discussions for all attendees to get involved. Earlier in her career\, Laura served Democrat and Republican Administrations in a number of international-facing roles\, including as head of intelligence for the FBI Art Crime Team. Laura holds an MA in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art and an MA in International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. She is Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) compliant through March 2023. \nTanya Desdunes\, a Haitian-American and African- American living in Miami\, Florida since 2014\, has worked with Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator\, Inc. since 2018 in multiple capacities. Desdunes holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in History from St. John’s University. She joined DVCAI as the Executive Director in July 2021 and is excited to uphold artistic representation and cultural preservation of the Caribbean and Latin Diaspora arts community in South Florida. \n  \nValerie Gillespie is an independent curator based in Dallas. She holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of New England in Portland and curatorial practice from New York University. Her undergraduate degree is in Studio Art and Spanish from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg\, Virginia. During her years abroad in Santiago de Compostela\, Spain\, Valerie studied art and architecture. While completing her artist in residence program with Università Iuav di Venezia in Venice\, Italy\, she studied painting under the guidance of Maurizio Pellegrin. Valerie currently is the Director of Fine Arts at the Winston School and owner of Pencil on Paper Gallery in Dallas. Some of her recent exhibitions include curatorial projects with the 500X Gallery in Dallas\, 400H Gallery in Fort Worth\, the Hawn Gallery at Southern Methodist University\, the Martin Museum at Baylor University\, and the Texas Visual Arts Association. \nCecilia Yueyi Jalboukh is the Founder and Director of Brooklyn-based YI GALLERY. YI GALLERY program features a diverse and eclectic mixture of emerging and mid-career international artists. Started in 2018 as a curatorial project exhibiting in non-traditional settings\, YI has expanded to include a collaborative exhibition space in Bushwick (2020 – 2021). The gallery program continues to evolve with a new space inside Brooklyn’s vibrant creative hub Industry City\, launched in 2021. YI is committed to offering a platform for distinctive artistic voices\, while enhancing the public’s interaction with contemporary art. \nPassionate about promoting Indigenous values\, Frances Melgarejo\, M.A. (Peruvian Quechua/Irish) is a researcher and emerging curator of Indigenous arts of the Americas. Through a feminist lens and a phenomenological approach\, she aims to unearth women artists’ muted voices to celebrate their significant contributions and learn from their unique experiences. \nCurrently\, she is an administrative assistant for the Native American arts organization in New York City\, Amerinda Inc. She was introduced to the organization as an ArtTable Fellow in the summer of 2021\, where she performed as a curatorial assistant to Native curator David Bunn Martine. Recently\, she conducted research for an exhibit on contemporary Seminole patchwork projected to show in South Florida in 2024. At this time\, she is conducting preliminary research for a New York City exhibit showcasing contemporary visual art by Indigenous women. \n \nNuria Richards is an arts professional who is passionate about art collections and the way they positively impact the market and philanthropy. She attended the Fine Arts School at the National University in Mexico City and holds an Art Business Graduate degree from Sotheby’s Institute of Art – Claremont Graduate University where she extended her academic interests to Economics\, Cultural Studies\, and Management of Corporate Collections. \nAfter studying in New York and Los Angeles\, Nuria relocated to Miami and worked in the gallery system holding the position of Executive Manager for Piero Atchugarry Gallery\, and Director of Museum Relations for Ascaso Gallery. Around this period she became part of ArtTable Florida Chapter as Chair of Programming. \nNuria supports young and emerging artists through the curatorial project Clandestina and is the founder of RICHARDS & Co\, an Art Management & Estate Planning Agency that evaluates and creates strategies for acquiring\, selling\, transferring\, and donating art. She works\, with families and individuals\, designing the sale and acquisition of works by artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat\, George Condo\, Diego Rivera\, Wifredo Lam\, Joaquín Torres-García\, Victor Vasarely\, and Leonora Carrington. Her relationship with art and involvement with museums\, galleries\, artists\, and collectors in the US and Mexico seeks to create cultural impact through the practice of art collecting. \nNuria’s goal is to generate strategies for collectors to successfully fulfill their art interests\, while positively impacting the community. She has been a conduit between secondary and primary markets for a generation of artists and collectors that were caught in the middle of a rapidly changing art world. \nTeresa Silva is the Executive and Artistic Director at the Chicago Artists Coalition\, a nonprofit organization supporting emerging and mid-career artists and curators. Silva has presented exhibitions\, talks and lectures at venues such as the Chicago Cultural Center\, Mana Contemporary\, School of the Art Institute\, Ox-Bow Art School and Artists’ Residency\, and the Artist Communities Alliance. She has served as a Visual Arts panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts and numerous others. In 2018\, she was an Artists’ Administrators Resident at the Robert Rauschenberg Residency Program in Captiva\, FL. Goldfinch’s program focuses on emerging and mid-career artists with a strong focus on painting and sculpture. She is also a Lecturer in the Painting and Drawing department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Prior to moving to Chicago in 2008\, Isé was the Associate Curator of Exhibitions at the Wexner Center for the Arts\, and before that\, was an Assistant Curator at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Over the course of her professional career\, she has written extensively about contemporary art in Chicago (and before that\, Los Angeles) for publications including Artforum\, Art21 Blog (where she also served as Editor)\, Bad at Sports\, Art Papers\, the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Magazine\, and the Los Angeles Times\, among others. Drawn to the serenity she finds in elegant organic forms\, Schneider creates unique objects of reverence to preserve vanishing beauty in our vulnerable environment. Art censorship\, the environment\, activism\, public and performance art\, the global diaspora\, and technology are among her research interests. Broadening access to art and culture has been her priority since 2011. In a roving audio podcast that she launched from a park bench in Brooklyn\, Byrd demystifies contemporary art through stories appealing to the cognoscenti and the curious. She engages with today’s issues and ideas on a platform that fuses digital media\, sound art and social practice. Fresh Art International has streamed programming from the Everglades and Key West\, São Paulo\, Paris\, Berlin\, Dominican Republic\, Trinidad\, and Dakar. The first 300 episodes of the podcast feature emerging and established artists\, curators\, writers\, designers and filmmakers\, as well as spiritual leaders\, scientists\, activists\, and environmentalists at the center and fringe of creative communities around the world. Byrd considers it a privilege to witness and document the nuanced character of our cultural landscape.  \nArnika Dawkins is the owner of her eponymous fine art photography gallery established in Atlanta in 2012. The gallerist shows work by talented emerging and mid-career artists specializing in exhibiting fine art photography by African Americans and images of people from the African Diaspora. Her passion is connecting collectors to photography that is significant\, inspiring\, and provocative. As a fine art photographer and avid collector\, herself\, she is a valuable resource to collectors and artists alike. She is passionate about the medium\, having obtained a Master of Arts in Digital Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Ingle is also a PhD candidate in Aesthetic Studies at UTD currently working on a dissertation that surveys Texas women photographers\, with the goal of publishing her research as part of a four-book series. \nVicki Meek is a nationally recognized artist\, curator\, writer\, and arts advocate with over forty years of arts administrative experience\, to include twenty years as the Manager of the South Dallas Cultural Center. She has received a number of grants and honors to include an NEA Grant\, the Dallas Observer MasterMind Award\, Texas Black Filmmakers Mission Award\, Women of Visionary Influence Mentor Award\, Dallas Women’s Foundation Maura Award\, the African American Museum at Dallas A. Maceo Smith Award for Cultural Achievement and the 2021 Texas Artist of the Year from Art League of Houston. DESCRIPTION:All ArtTable members are welcome to join us on Sunday\, October 16 for our next Reading at the (Art)Table program\, where we will be having a lively discussion of Anne Truitt’s book\, “Yield — The Journal of an Artist.“.  \n\n\n\nIn the spring of 1974\, the artist Anne Truitt (1921–2004) committed herself to keeping a journal for a year. She would continue the practice\, sometimes intermittently\, over the next six years\, writing in spiral-bound notebooks and setting no guidelines other than to “let the artist speak.” These writings were published as Daybook: The Journal of an Artist (1982). Two other journal volumes followed: Turn (1986) and Prospect (1996). This book\, the final volume\, comprises journals the artist kept from the winter of 2001 to the spring of 2002\, two years before her death. In Yield\, Truitt’s unflinching honesty is on display as she contemplates her place in the world and comes to terms with the intellectual\, practical\, emotional\, and spiritual issues that an artist faces when reconciling her art with her life\, even as that life approaches its end. Truitt illuminates a life and career in which the demands\, responsibilities\, and rewards of family\, friends\, motherhood\, and grandmotherhood are ultimately accepted\, together with those of a working artist. \n\n\n\nThis program is free and open to ArtTable members only. Not a member? Henrique Faria is a gallery specialized in the promotion of Latin American Art for over 20 years. The gallery specializes in modern and contemporary art\, with a strong emphasis on Geometric Abstraction and Conceptualism. \nThe Gallery maintains a rigorous exhibition program and participates continuously in international art fairs such as Frieze London and New York\, Art Basel Miami\, Paris Photo\, Zona Maco\, Mexico and ARCOmadrid\, amonst others. As the demand for Latin American art increases\, the gallery has gathered the attention of international collectors\, curators\, museums\, and institutions. Previously\, Sucre was part of the Fundraising and Event Management team at the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) and the Assistant Director of Faría+Fábregas Galería\, Caracas from 2007 to 2010. \nIn her spare time\, Eugenia is also an independent producer of art projects and supports non profit organizations in Venezuela\, her country or origin. She has lived and worked in Buenos Aires\, London and New York. She is a patron of the Contemporary Art Society in London and founding patron of The Drawing Room. In Miami\, she supports Locust Projects\, The Bass\, PAMM\, and the Lowe Museum. Her collection focuses on works on paper and photography and includes drawings by Yoshitomo Nara\, Marcel Dzama\, Liliana Porter\, Teresa Lanceta\, and Mona Hatoum; and photographs by Gillian Wearing\, Martin Parr\, and Shirin Neshat. Since moving to Miami\, she has started collecting works by South Florida-based artists and has joined the Board of Directors of Oolite Arts\, Miami’s leading support organization for the virtual arts. \n\n\n\nAfter two decades of experience in the banking industry and living in seven different countries\, Maria Pia Leon Angell decided to leave banking to advise wealthy individuals and families more broadly on their financial and non-financial wealth management decisions\, following a holistic approach. She entered the family office realm at Greenspring Family Office\, followed by AM Global. Forbes Family Trust acquired the last one. Forbes manages US$ 30B from 250 families and has offices in the US and Europe. She considers her best strength is an appreciation of beauty which she fulfills through her love for nature and the arts. She has belonged to the acquisition committee of the Museum of Art of Lima\, Peru\, and currently serves as Chair of the Miami Music Project. This non-profit uses music education as an instrument for social change. \n\n\n\nMelissa A. Passman advises U.S. and non-U.S. taxpayers on a range of tax and estate planning matters. She assists clients with tax and trusts and estate matters\, including tax planning on corporate and partnership structures and transactions\, implementing estate planning strategies\, and planning around alternative assets. Melissa represents clients with federal and state tax matters\, including international and domestic income and transfer tax planning for entities and individuals\, as well as tax controversy. Melissa has extensive experience in art law matters and has been recognized for her counsel. She draws on her experience with a major international art gallery and other arts institutions to counsel collectors\, advisors\, galleries\, tax-exempt organizations\, and family offices. Melissa advises these clients on matters around the acquisition\, ownership\, and disposition of artwork\, including the formation of private museums and other charitable vehicles\, as well as multijurisdictional tax planning. She also works with artists on developing robust legacy planning structures. \n\n\n\nNuria Richards is an arts professional who is passionate about art collections and the way they positively impact the market and philanthropy. She attended the Fine Arts School at the National University in Mexico City and holds an Art Business Graduate degree from Sotheby’s Institute of Art – Claremont Graduate University where she extended her academic interests to management for corporate collections as well as Ph.D. classes in Economics and Cultural Studies Nuria supports young and emerging artists through the curatorial project Clandestina and is the founder of RICHARDS & Co\, an Art Management & Estate Planning Agency that evaluates and creates strategies for acquiring\, selling\, transferring\, and donating art. She works\, with families and individuals\, designing the sale and acquisition of works by artists like George Condo\, Diego Rivera\, Wifredo Lam\, Joaquín Torres-García\, Victor Vasarely\, and Leonora Carrington. Her relationship with art and involvement with museums\, galleries\, artists\, and collectors in the US and Mexico is the result of invested conversations creating cultural value around the practice of art collecting. Nuria’s goal is to create strategies for collectors to successfully fulfill their art interests\, while positively impacting the community. Click here for directions from any location. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Caitlin Berry\nAs inaugural Director of the Rubell Museum DC\, Caitlin Berry works closely with the Rubells and Director of the Rubell Museum in Miami\, Juan Valadez\, to realize the Rubells’ vision of sharing their extensive collection of contemporary art with the people who live\, work in\, and visit the nation’s capital. Berry is responsible for engaging the greater DC community\, developing public programming\, managing the operations and staff of the Museum\, and collaborating with the Rubells and Valadez to oversee the Museum’s installations and exhibitions. Prior to joining the Museum\, Berry served as Director of the Cody Gallery at Marymount University in Arlington\, VA\, where she curated exhibitions such as Nekisha Durrett: Magnolia\, Dave Eassa: People and Places You Don’t Know How to Know and co-curated Jennie Lea Knight: Women of Jefferson Place\, alongside John Anderson and Meaghan Kent. Independently\, she curated Eric Uhlir: Before\, After and In Between\, and Joseph Shetler: Pursuit of Nothing at Culture House DC. Berry’s areas of focus include the Washington Color School\, Mid-Century African American\, and contemporary art. A champion of local artists\, she curated the 2019 and co-curated the 2020 editions of Art Night\, an annual exhibition and fundraiser to support the Washington Project for the Arts (WPA). \nBerry has served as an independent contemporary art advisor to various private and public collections. She also held the role of Director at Hemphill Fine Arts\, one of DC’s leading art galleries with an emphasis on local emerging\, mid-career\, and established artists. Berry is a member of ArtTable.
