SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Artist Studio Visit with Josely Carvalho
DESCRIPTION:Josely Carvalho (b. 1942\, São Paulo\, Brazil) is an interdisciplinary artist\, poet\, and activist whose work spans printmaking\, installation\, blown glass\, public art\, and olfactory media. Informed by early memories\, including childhood memories of Paraná’s vanishing Araucaria forests\, her practice uses personal experience to explore ecological\, political\, and social themes. Josely Carvalho classifies her work as “Diaries” “Books” and “Chapters”. By approaching a broad range of materials as texts\, Carvalho unravels narrative expectations to address issues of feminism\, indigenous rights\, and shelter in her multisensory and empathetic oeuvre. \n\n\n\nCarvalho studied art and architecture in St. Louis\, Missouri\, before relocating to New York City in the 1970s\, where she became a pivotal figure in the city’s activist and Latin American artist communities. She was a leading member of Artist’s Call Against U.S. Intervention in Central America. She founded The Silk Screen Project at St. Mark’s Church in the Bowery\, amplifying marginalized voices through collective creative production. In recent years\, Carvalho has emerged as a pioneer in the field of olfactory art through her ongoing Diary of Smells series\, culminating in works like Glass Ceiling: Resilience (2018)\, at at the Museum of Contemporary Art in São Paulo\, for which she received the International Art and Olfaction Sadakichi Award in 2019. \n\n\n\nHer work has been exhibited widely across the Americas\, including exhibitions at the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes (Rio de Janeiro)\, the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles)\, the Museum of Contemporary Art (São Paulo)\, and the Brooklyn Museum’s landmark exhibition Radical Women: Latin American Art\, 1960–1985. Carvalho’s practice has been recognized with major awards from the Creative Capital Foundation\, the Rockefeller Foundation\, and the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2022\, she became the first Brazilian artist to receive the Lee Krasner Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. This distinction honors her decades-long contributions to contemporary art and social consciousness. \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guests – $20\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $25\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Curator-Led Tours of "Arresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron" & "Lisa Yuskavage: Drawings" at the Morgan Library & Museum
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to present two back to back curator-led tours at the Morgan Library & Museum! Curator Allison Pappas will lead attendees on a tour of Arresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron at 12:30pm\, followed by a short break. After the break\, Claire Gilman will lead attendees on a tour of Lisa Yuskavage: Drawings. \n\n\n\nArresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron explores the path-breaking career of photography’s first widely recognized artist. Cameron (1815–1879) was born in Calcutta (modern day Kolkata) to a French mother and an English father; in 1848\, with her husband and children\, she moved to England\, where her sisters introduced her to the elite cultural circles in which they traveled. Residing on the Isle of Wight\, where she was close neighbors with the poet Alfred Tennyson\, Cameron acquired her first camera at age 48. In only eleven years she would create thousands of exposures and leave an enduring image of the Victorian era as an age of intellectual and spiritual ambition. \n\n\n\nLisa Yuskavage: Drawings is the first comprehensive museum presentation of the artist’s drawings. Incorporating drawings from the early nineties to the present and including sketches and finished studies\, the exhibition will feature a wide range of her explorations with materials including work in graphite\, pen\, Conte\, pastel\, charcoal\, distemper\, monotype\, gouache\, watercolor\, acrylic and ink on paper. It will chart Yuskavage’s career-long inquiry into how process and material experimentation create entirely new ways to find images. From her earliest drawings of imagined figures and still lives\, through a period of investigation into what constitutes a model\, to her recent studio and landscape scenes synthesizing the real and the imagined into a new kind of fictional reality\, Yuskavage’s drawings give insight into the way we see and comprehend the world. Within the jewel-like space of the Thaw Gallery\, the exhibition provides an immersive experience\, allowing the viewer to enter the artist’s mind. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $30\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guest – $40\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $50\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:Washington\, DC | Curator-Led Tour of "Vivian Browne: My Kind of Protest" with Adrienne L. Childs
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to present a Curator-Led Tour of Vivian Browne: My Kind of Protest at the Phillips Collection with Adrienne L. Childs! \n\n\n\nDrawing upon previously unknown works and archival findings\, this exhibition recovers the depth and variety of the more than three-decade career of Vivian Browne (b. 1929\, Laurel\, FL; d. 1993\, New York\, NY). The exhibition features paintings\, prints\, and works on paper across seven bodies of work\, as well as ephemera that highlight Browne’s pioneering activism and influential teaching career. Browne was a founder of the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition\, an organization that fought for Black representation in New York museums; a founder of SoHo20\, one of the first women’s art cooperatives in Manhattan; and a professor at Rutgers University (1971–92). Her signature approach to color and form challenged the neatly defined categories of abstraction and figuration\, and art and politics\, revealing a more nuanced approach to art-making that is part of Browne’s unique contribution to 20th-century art of the US. \n\n\n\nAdrienne L. Childs is an independent scholar\, art historian\, and curator. She is Senior Consulting Curator at The Phillips Collection. Her current book is an exploration of Black figures in European decorative arts entitled Ornamental Blackness: The Black Figure in European Decorative Arts\, publshed by Yale University Press. She is currently co-curator of Vivian Browne: My Kind of Protest for The Phillips Collection. She recently co-curated The Colour of Anxiety: Race\, Sexuality and Disorder in Victorian Sculpture at The Henry Moore Institute in Leeds\, England. She was the guest curator of Riffs and Relations: African American Artists and the European Modernist Tradition at The Phillips Collection in Washington DC\, 2020. \n\n\n\nIn April 2022 The High Museum of Art awarded Childs the 2022 Driskell Prize in recognition of her contribution to African American art and art history. \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable AND Phillips Collection Members – $20 (You must be a member of both ArtTable and the Phillips to receive this price. Phillips Member ID number must be provided)\n\n\n\nArtTable Member – $30\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $40\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Summer Party at Asya Geisberg Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Banshees\, group exhibition at Asya Geisberg Gallery\n\n\n\nThis summer in New York\, we are stepping out of the sun and into the Asya Geisberg Gallery for a Summer Party on Wednesday\, July 16\, from 5:30 PM – 7 PM. \n\n\n\nJoin us for some light refreshments\, some gorgeous art\, and lively conversations with ArtTable members and other visual arts professionals. \n\n\n\nThis networking event lines up perfectly with the Chelsea & Tribeca Gallery Walk\, happening from 6 – 8 PM. Whether you start your night with us and head out for more art afterward\, or swing by while strolling through Tribeca\, be sure to stop in to mingle with ArtTable members and fellow art lovers. \n\n\n\nMake sure to register below\, so that we know you are coming! We look forward to seeing you there! \n\n\n\nAbout Asya Geisberg GalleryAsya Geisberg Gallery opened in Chelsea in late 2010 with a mission to create a space conducive to intellectual inquiry and cultural cross-pollination\, where ideas about art\, and art about ideas\, were at the forefront. After 10+ years\, the gallery has relocated to the heart of Tribeca and joined its vibrant arts community. Our program is visually eclectic and conceptually focused\, encompassing work in all media. We represent young emerging artists as well as international artists otherwise unrepresented in the US\, many of whom work across multiple media such as ceramics\, textiles\, painting\, photography\, and sculpture\, with an interest in world history\, archaeology\, and cultural politics from a non-US perspective. Our artists have been reviewed in the New York Times\, Artforum\, The New Yorker\, The Wall Street Journal\, and international publications. The gallery has shown at art fairs including The Armory Show\, NADA NY\, UNTITLED Miami\, UNTITLED San Francisco\, ExpoChicago\, ZONAMACO\, Photofairs\, Future Fair\, and Art Los Angeles Contemporary (ALAC). Asya Geisberg Gallery is a proud member of the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) and ArtTable. \n\n\n\nAsya Geisberg Gallery is pleased to present “Banshees Remix\,” a resurrected and expanded group exhibition of eighteen women sculptors whose work uses traditionally femme signifiers to subvert gendered narratives and traditions through a manipulation of scale\, material\, and surface. The banshee is a female spirit in Irish folklore who heralds the death of a family member\, usually by screaming\, wailing\, or shrieking. The cry of the spirit is mournful beyond all other sounds on earth\, in the silence of the night. Here\, the Banshee is re-embodied as contemporary cries of protest and refusal\, and the notion of “good girl” / “bad girl.” With concrete\, neon\, steel\, ceramic\, wood\, glass\, and leather – distinctive material choices and juxtapositions – a disregard for rules of the game unfolds. The Banshees negotiate tensions through dream theory\, mythology\, and history. The works’ physical presence and symbolic power both reveal and distort perception. \n\n\n\nAre you considering joining ArtTable and want to know more about who we are and what we do? This is a great opportunity for potential members to get to know us! \n\n\n\nAdmission: \n\n\n\n\nFREE to ArtTable Members and their guests\n\n\n\nFREE to prospective members\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:Stanford\, CA | Curator-Led Tours of "Archive Room: Ruth Asawa" & "Archive Room: Ester Hernandez"
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable at Stanford University’s Cantor Arts Center for a curator-led tour of Archive Room: Ruth Asawa with Kathryn Cua and a curator-led tour of Archive Room: Ester Hernandez with Jorge Eduardo Sibaja. \n\n\n\nRuth Asawa (1926–2013) was a Japanese American artist and arts advocate who worked to integrate arts education into the standard curriculum of San Francisco’s public schools. Although Asawa is best known for her looped-wire sculptures\, Archive Room: Ruth Asawa explores her lifelong dedication to arts activism through selected projects from the Alvarado School Arts Workshop curriculum\, an artist-in-residence program she cofounded with architect and fellow parent Sally Woodbridge at Alvarado Elementary School in 1968. The teaching materials\, workshops\, and collaborative projects presented in this compact\, single-gallery presentation explores Asawa’s belief that art is essential to cultivating a fuller sense of self. \n\n\n\nSan Francisco Mission District-based artist Ester Hernandez (b. 1944) is a celebrated Chicana printmaker and storyteller. In iconic works such as Sun Mad\, she deftly weaves urgent\, incisive commentary with a bold visual language. This single-gallery presentation highlights a selection of artwork\, writing\, and other ephemera from the artist’s archive at Stanford Special Collections. The grouping of material reveals that Hernandez’s artwork and sociopolitical convictions have walked in lockstep since the very beginning of her career\, shaped by her family’s background as farmworkers in California’s raisin belt in San Joaquin Valley\, where she was born\, and Hernandez’s own life experiences.  \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guest – $20\n\n\n\nNon Members – $25\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:East Hampton\, NY | ArtTable Day Trip to the Hamptons: Onna House\, Collection Visit\, & Guild Hall
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate summer at ArtTable’s 2025 day trip to the Hamptons! Attendees will visit three locations in East Hampton: Onna House\, long-time ArtTable member and art collector Susan Jacobson’s Home\, and Mary Heilmann: Water Way at Guild Hall. \n\n\n\nPlease note that this program does not include transportation. Each attendee is responsible for their own transportation. \n\n\n\nHoused in a Japanese modernist 1960s residence in the center of East Hampton\, Onna House is a sanctuary filled with art\, furniture\, and objects by women artists and designers exclusively. With a dual mission to support and create visibility for these artists and provide a gallery space to display their work\, founder Lisa Perry combines her passions under one roof to carefully curate the private home and studio. Onna House acts as a space for women artists to engage and collaborate and for collectors to discover new work. \n\n\n\nLunch will be provided at the home of long-time ArtTable member and art collector Susan Jacobson! Highlights of Susan’s collection include work by Nick Cave\, Cindy Sherman\, Josephine Meckseper\, Solange Pessoa\, Elmgreen & Dragset\, Joel Perlman\, Tom Sachs\, Daniel Arsham\, Toni Ross\, and Vik Muniz. \n\n\n\nAt Guild Hall\, Museum Director and Curator of Visual Arts Melanie Crader will lead attendees on a tour of Mary Heilmann: Water Way. This exhibition is the artist’s first large-scale solo presentation with an institution on the East End of Long Island\, where she has been an integral part of the region’s creative community for decades. From California to New York City to Bridgehampton\, Heilmann has prioritized living in close proximity to water\, which has had a profound influence on her life and work. Whether as a direct image or referential title\, water has long been a recurring theme throughout her practice.  Guild Hall is pleased to realize an exhibition that Heilmann has had a strong desire to stage—one that brings together over 40 works of a focused area of her output. The exhibition includes works on paper\, ceramics\, and paintings spanning from the 1980s through the present. \n\n\n\nITINERARY: \n\n\n\nEach attendee is responsible for transportation between venues. SUMMARY:Boston\, MA | Curator-Led Tour of "Portia Zvavahera" with Ruth Erickson
DESCRIPTION:Gather at ICA Boston for a guided tour of Portia Zvavahera with Ruth Erickson\, Barbara Lee Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs! \n\n\n\nPortia Zvavahera (b. 1985 in Harare\, Zimbabwe) draws from her dreams to create layered paintings that evoke moments of transition and transcendence. For the artist\, the act of painting is akin to an act of worship. Across her work\, Zvavahera engages deeply with the African Pentecostal and Indigenous Shona traditions in which she was raised\, illuminating the centrality of dreams\, ancestors\, and revelation to both belief systems. The artist merges painting and printmaking techniques to conjure worlds glimpsed in her dreams\, where figures commune with spirits\, and protective comforts and nightmares collide in stirring unions. Culling from an array of sources ranging from the angels and demons of medieval European devotional art to the vibrant patterns of Zimbabwean textile designs\, Zvavahera constructs what the art historian Tamar Garb has described as “a unique and porous pictorial world.”  For the ICA\, her first solo museum exhibition in the U.S.\, Zvavahera is presenting a selection of recent paintings centered on the theme of animals\, considering how they populate her work as well as the collective imagination.   \n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guests – $20\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $25\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? We asked artists to create circular fiber works to symbolize the continuation of hope in our present experience as we strive to overcome a certain sense of nothingness.  \n\n\n\n\nRegistration: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $15\n\n\n\nArtTable Member Guest – $20\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $25

SUMMARY:Los Angeles\, CA | Curator-Led Tour of "Made in L.A. 2025" with Essence Harden
DESCRIPTION:Gather at the Hammer Museum for a Curator-Led Tour of Made in LA 2025 with Essence Harden! \n\n\n\nMade in L.A. 2025 is the seventh iteration of the Hammer’s signature biennial exhibition that showcases artists practicing throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The 28 participants in the exhibition present work not only made in the city but also grounded in its complex and unfolding terrain. Neither myth nor monolith\, Los Angeles is many things to many people\, and its dissonance is perhaps its most distinguishing feature. The works presented in this year’s biennial include film\, painting\, theater\, choreography\, photography\, sculpture\, sound\, and video. Attitude draws them together: Each engages with this city in ways alternately literal\, formal\, material\, and metaphoric. Conceived or made in Los Angeles\, they are of this city and nowhere else. \n\n\n\n\n\nProgram Admission: \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $25\n\n\n\nArtTable Guests – $30\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission – $35\n\n\n\n\nNot a member? Join today! \n\n\n\nAll program registration fees go toward event expenses and administrative costs for the organization.

SUMMARY:New York\, NY | Private Collection Tour of the Deutsche Bank Art Collection
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable for a private collection tour at the Deutsche Bank Center. \n\n\n\nLocated in the center of one of the world’s most multi-cutural cities\, the Deutsche Bank Collection at Columbus Circle reflects New York’s globally renowned and vibrant contemporary art scene. Since it was established in the late 1970s\, the collection has focused on the medium of paper\, and there is a reason for this: the idea was that art should not be hung only on the executive floors and lobbies\, but in all of its offices and retail branches. Works on paper\, drawings\, collages\, and photographs serve this purpose well\, among other things because of their high artistic quality and their experimental spirit. With this strategy\, the Deutsche Bank Collection broke new ground at the time. \n\n\n\nHighlights of the Deutsche Bank Collection include Joan Mitchell\, Jennie C. Jones\, HelenFrankenthaler\, Wangechi Mutu\, Keith Haring\, Eva Hesse\, Carrie Mae Weems\, Amy Sillman\, and more. You can read more about the collection here. \n\n\n\n\n\nProgram Admission: This program is open to ArtTable Executive\, Circle\, Patron\, and Benefactor members until October 3. If space allows\, this program will open to other membership levels and the general public. \n\n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $45\n\n\n\nArtTable Guests – $55\n\n\n\n\nNot a member?
