Schleuning has a record of organizing thoughtful exhibitions and programs that are not only high profile and highly popular\, but also recognized for their contributions to scholarship. She has more than two decades of expertise in forming relationships with living designers and artists\, bridging the gap between historical and contemporary design\, and exploring how engaging with art and design can extend beyond museum walls. She is the Margot B. Perot Senior Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the Dallas Museum of Art\, and her recent exhibitions and publications include the upcoming Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity\, Electrifying Design: A Century of Lighting\, and Curbed Vanity: A Contemporary Foil by Chris Schanck. \nAs Senior Curator of Decorative Arts and Design\, Schleuning oversees the decorative arts and design collection\, internationally recognized as one of the foremost decorative arts collections in the United States. The collection includes more than 8\,000 works of art from the 15th century to the present\, with a strength in European and American decorative arts\, most significantly 18th-century English silver\, 19th- and 20th-century American silver and ceramics\, and modern and contemporary jewelry and design. As the Museum focuses on the expansion of its contemporary holdings\, Schleuning’s deep experience in working with and maintaining relationships with contemporary designers and artist is a significant asset\, as is her interest in connecting design’s past and present. Among her other responsibilities\, Schleuning also oversees the decorative arts and design collection planning\, development\, scholarship\, and acquisitions. \nSchleuning served as Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the High Museum of Art\, Atlanta\, from 2011 until 2018. She organized numerous exhibitions\, including two of the 10 most attended exhibitions in the museum’s history. She was co-organizing curator for the nationally touring exhibition Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion\, which broke attendance records and became the eighth most-attended show at the High Museum of Art. Other notable exhibitions that ranged from historical scholarship to pushing the conceived boundaries of what defines a museum exhibition were Technicolor: New Works by Jaime Hayon (2017); Dream Cars: Innovative Design\, Visionary Ideas (2014)\, the 10th most-attended show at the High Museum; Earl Pardon’s Portable Art: Jewelry & Design (2015); and Bangles to Benches: Contemporary Jewelry and Design (2013). From 2013 to 2018\, she curated five dynamic and highly acclaimed designer interventions/playscapes that engages the community by activating the High’s Sifly Piazza\, and through that established the designer-in-residency project. \nPrior to joining the High Museum\, Schleuning served as Curator at The Wolfsonian–Florida International University\, having previously held positions as a Fellowship Coordinator and Assistant Curator at the institution\, where she produced exhibitions\, publications\, and programs with a focus on highlighting the power and impact of art and design in daily life. Before that\, she worked at the Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills\, Michigan\, beginning in 2000 as Curatorial Collections Fellow\, advancing to Assistant Curator with a focus on art\, architecture\, craft\, and design. \nSchleuning graduated from Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts. She received her Master of Arts in the History of Decorative Arts from Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in conjunction with Parsons School of Design. In 2015 she was a fellow at the Center for Curatorial Leadership. SUMMARY:AT Tours - Scandinavia Art Experience 2022
DESCRIPTION:Interested in this program? Please email travel@arttable.org for more information.\n\nThe light! In Scandinavia this has been an inspiration for artist throughout the ages. This alone is a reason to visit the splendid art capitals of this region. The art worlds are truly exciting with the new Munch Museum and the Twist in Oslo. Helsinki has its first Biennial this year and as a result the art world is more vibrant than ever. And of course we dive into the wonderful art scene of Copenhagen. Exceptional clean Nordic design and the amazing equally ‘clean’ cuisine are further draws. Add the stunning natural beauty and we have a ‘not-to-be missed’ destination. It is no coincidence that the three countries we will visit are home of the Top-3 of Happiest People in the world. \nITINERARY\nHELSINKI\, FinlandThe Biennial of 2020 (postponed to 2021) really put Helsinki on the art world map. We ‘dive into’ the thriving art scene and see the best it has to offer. We will meet fantastic artists and collectors in their studios and homes. Of course we will include design from the world-renowned Aalto studio. We will enjoy a special behind-the-scenes tour in the Kiasma museum. And in contrast we visit the most beautiful examples of Finnish Jugendstill architecture. \nOSLO\, Norway‘Oslo is Europe’s next great Art Capitol’ according to ARTnews.com. And we agree. The new Munch Museum is set be open this fall. It promises to be a fabulous tribute to the artist and of course we will enjoy a special visit. The Oslo art scene is booming and we include the best galleries\, museums and private collections in the program. We also make a spectacular trip north to visit the Twist Museum and the sculpture garden surrounding it. Then it is time to take in the natural beauty from the water. We board the cruise-ferry and leave Oslo behind with stunning views of the Norwegian fjords. On board we enjoy a great dinner and spend the night in a first class cabin. \nCOPENHAGEN\, DenmarkWe wake up arriving in wonderful Copenhagen. The hugely successful contemporary artist Olafur Elliason was born here and we meet some of his contemporaries. We will visit intriguing private collections. And we will enjoy visits to the Hirschsprung Collection for masterpieces from the Danish Golden Age as well as the fantastic modern and contemporary Louisiana Museum and sculpture garden. There is also time for some great (design) shopping. Of course we will eat what could be the best food you have ever tasted in some of the 25+ Michelin star restaurants of the Danish capital. A fantastic last stop on what promises to be a truly magical tour. \nMonday\, June 13Flight back home or on your way for further experiences….*Subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances \n\nTRIP DETAILS\nDATESJune 4-13\, 2022 \nDURATION9 days / 9 nights \nSTAYPerfectly located luxury hotels; First class cabin on the ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo \nMEALSBreakfast\, lunches\, dinners included (alcohol not included) \nTRAVELIncluded:Local transport by luxury coachFlight from Helsinki to OsloOvernight ferry Oslo to Copenhagen \nNot included:Trans-Atlantic flights  (Artigo will advise on preferred flights) \nPRICING / ROOM TYPES– Single occupancy  – $8\,450– Double occupancy – $7\,750 \nPAYMENT SCHEDULE (Payable to Artigo Tours): \nSeptember 1\, 2021 | 1st payment – $2\,000February 1\, 2022 | 2nd payment – $3\,000April 1\, 2022 | 3rd payment – (dependent on type of room\, see below)– Single Occupancy: $3\,450– Double Occupancy: $2\,750 \nARTTABLE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE CONTRIBUTION  \nDue by September 1\, 2021Click here to submit payment. \nMembers: $750Guests: $1100 \nAll payments made to ArtTable are final and non-refundable. \nPlease contact ArtTable at travel@arttable.org with any questions. SUMMARY:Virtual | Fine Art Photography in the NFT Space\, with Ashlyn Davis Burns
DESCRIPTION:NFTs have become a hot topic of discussion as a major disruptor of the traditional art market. Typically framed in relation to digital artists (like Beeple\, the artist who broke records at auction with his $69 million NFT in the spring of 2021)\, NFTs have also swiftly been gaining traction among established artists working in traditional media\, particularly in photography. Ashlyn Davis Burns has been representing traditional lens-based artists’ physical work and their collections in the NFT space since 2021. In this talk\, we will hear about the significance of the blockchain for photography\, its growing market position\, and probable directions for the future. Ashlyn will cover landmark projects that have created the current market for NFT photography\, as well as new platforms that have launched in the past year\, including her own. The platform will support some of the most prominent photographers of the 20th and 21st centuries through their “genesis drops” in the space. \n\n\n\nAdmission: \n\n\n\nArtTable Members – $10Member Guests/Non-Members – $15\n\n\n\nNot a member? SUMMARY:NoCal | The New Art Collection: NFTs and Digital Art\, presented in partnership with Art Market San Francisco
DESCRIPTION:Join ArtTable and Art Market San Francisco for a discussion on NFTs and digital art collecting! \n\n\n\nAs the art world continues to develop amidst the ever-evolving world of digital art\, NFTs\, and cryptocurrencies\, so too must the established habits of art collectors. The past several years have seen significant developments in the digital realm\, both when it comes to digital art itself as well as purchasing art on digital platforms. NFTs have quickly become a mainstay in art world news\, with new information and initiatives being announced on a regular basis. Artists are more frequently using digital art to address gender and minority imbalances in the art world; art fairs are launching digital viewing sites and permitting non-physical galleries to show at the fair; and NFT platforms are going green. Where years ago purchasing a work of art online might have been unheard of\, now it is a common occurrence. Art\, and how we access it\, is ever-changing\, and we are all just trying to keep up. \n\n\n\nIn this discussion\, we will hear from art advisor Claudia Worthington-Hess\, Christina Steinbrecher\, co-founder of Blockchain.art\, a digital platform for artists and collectors\, and Kelani Nichole\, founder of TRANSFER\, a gallery that explores the friction between virtual studio practice and its physical instantiation. \n\n\n\nClick here to read more about the program and the speakers. \n\n\n\nThis program is free with fair admission and open to all. For more information about the fair and to purchase tickets\, click here. \n\n\n\nThis program is presented in partnership with Art Market San Francisco. Complimentary tickets are available for ArtTable members via the membership portal. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImage: TBD

SUMMARY:Benefit Week | Tour of the Whitney Biennial
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at the Whitney Museum of American Art for a private tour of the 2022 Whitney Biennial. \n\n\n\nThe 80th edition of the biennial\, entitled Quiet as It’s Kept\, will showcase the work of 63 artists and collectives distributed throughout most of the museum’s space. \n\n\n\n“Quiet as It’s Kept—a colloquialism typically said before the statement of something obviously meant to be kept a secret—was selected as the title after the co-organizers\, curators David Breslin and Adrienne Edwards\, were inspired by the usage of the phrase in a Toni Morrison novel and as the title of a Max Roach album. ‘The 2022 biennial arrives at a time haunted by a global pandemic and plagued by ongoing racial and economic inequities and polarizing politics\,’ says Adam D. Weinberg\, the museum’s Alice Pratt Brown director. ‘The artists in the exhibition challenge us to consider how these realities affect our senses of self and community and offer one of the broadest and most diverse takes on art in the United States that the Whitney has offered in many years.'” \n\n\n\n– Pili Swanson\, Gotham Magazine \n\n\n\nThe Whitney Biennial is the longest-running survey of American art\, and has been a hallmark of the Museum since 1932. Initiated by the Museum’s founder Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney as an invitational exhibition featuring artwork created in the preceding two years\, the biennials were originally organized by medium\, with painting alternating with sculpture and works on paper. Starting in 1937\, the Museum shifted to yearly exhibitions called Annuals. The current format—a survey show of work in all media occurring every two years—has been in place since 1973. More than 3\,600 artists have participated in a biennial or annual. \n\n\n\nThis is the second of two tours on Saturday\, April 9. The first is at 1:30pm. Please click here if you are looking for the 1:30pm tour. \n\n\n\nThis program is $30 for ArtTable members\, who may bring an additional guests for $45. Capacity is limited. \n\n\n\nNot a member? Join today! \n\n\n\nPlease read before registering:\n\n\n\n Covid-19 Guidelines Please note that by registering for this event you consent to have your contact information shared with ArtTable to be used in the event that contact tracing is needed. When you next visit the Whitney\, you’ll see that enhanced precautions are being taken for your health and well-being.
