Debra Hess Norris is Chair of the Department of Art Conservation, Unidel Henry Francis du Pont Chair of Fine Arts, and Professor of Photograph Conservation at the University of Delaware. An internationally recognized leader in photograph conservation, she has authored more than 45 articles and book chapters and taught more than 165 workshops and seminars for conservators and allied professionals in more than 40 countries. She served for more than 25 years as Director of the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation. Norris co-edited Issues in the Conservation of Photographs (Getty Conservation Institute, 2010) and, most recently, The Conservation of Photographic Collections: Significance, Use and Care (Routledge, 2025), an international collaboration involving more than 100 authors. Throughout her career, she has championed the preservation of photographs and cultural heritage as powerful carriers of memory, history, identity, and human connection.
